Head Honcho Posted 19 June 2009 Posted 19 June 2009 We tried to get him fairly cheap, didn't work, so lets move on to the next target. I doubt he'll go for anything more then we offered though! No one in the championship who could afford him needs him for starters.
Sniffer-Clarke Posted 19 June 2009 Posted 19 June 2009 I highly doubt we're getting a substantial enough amount from DJ to change our decision on Cox, Swindon just want too much.KIA is usually right but that doesn't mean he's always certain. He said that himself. He had spoken to Cox and Cox seemed positive but footballers' futures aren't always in their own hands. It's just one of those things. If it's not to be it's not to be but no doubt this will go on all summer or until he's bought by someone else so I'd just calm down and exercise some patience if I were you. I am a very patient person and i am not totally convinced that SM would be a good addition IMO hes to much like MF with that extra pace if city were going to pay that kind of money i would prefer to go for JB at leeds,If MF can cut in the CCC we only want a back up for SH or with a striker like JB and SH the back up

Koke Posted 19 June 2009 Posted 19 June 2009 When you have a wage cap of £10,000 then it will be also hard to attract the likes of simon cox to the club. Since when have we had a wage cap of £10.000? And more importantly, are you seriously suggesting we would pay Simon Cox more than 10k a week? You having a bubble mate.

Granno Posted 19 June 2009 Posted 19 June 2009 SM, IMO, MF, JB, MF, CC, SH Needs the fooking enigma to crack the code
Mr Happy Posted 19 June 2009 Posted 19 June 2009 Halleluja I second this. This whole will we sign him/will he go Celtic saga was boring weeks ago. His price tag is too expensive now hes had all the publicity so lets just forget about signing him and move on now.

surrifox Posted 20 June 2009 Posted 20 June 2009 there might be some bad blood with the agent or Swindon. When there is a public declaration that a club will not be pursuing interest in a player it leaves the impression that a skeleton may have just fallen out of the cupboard and we don't want to take a chance. Even if there isn't one it's not exactly going to make him more attractive as a target for other clubs
Sniffer-Clarke Posted 20 June 2009 Posted 20 June 2009 Needs the fooking enigma to crack the code I would have thought you would have been able to crack it being as your from ibstock, either you dont go down the walkers alot
Lillehamring Posted 20 June 2009 Posted 20 June 2009 think he meant jimmy nielson think he was being funny
sdb Posted 20 June 2009 Posted 20 June 2009 someone (Cox, agent) have taken the piss and we've moved on. right thing to do imo. (i've totally made that up but reckon it's pretty spot on )

richardsfoxes Posted 21 June 2009 Posted 21 June 2009 Really want pearson to pickup Lita now, im guessing Beckford is out of the equation aswell, as leeds will proberly want 2-3M for him.
TrickyTrev Posted 21 June 2009 Posted 21 June 2009 I don't think this is over. You are all assuming that somebody is going to be willing to meet Swindon's valuation. Wouldn't surpirse me if after a few weeks of no offers, Swindon lower their valuation.

Wouldn't surpirse me if after a few weeks of no offers, Swindon lower their valuation. This may just be brinkmanship. It's still June after all. Surely the player would want a move away from Swindon, it's just a question of finding the right valuation. I think if no other offers come in they'll settle at £1m - £1.5m...they will know that no one with their head screwed on would consider paying £2m. Unfortunately I think even £1.5m might be too much for tight-arsed Mandy. Don't think we'll get him tbh.
Jon the Hat Posted 22 June 2009 Posted 22 June 2009 We don't have enough cash to be gambling £2.5M on an untested player. There are way too many examples of L1 stikers not scoring in the Championship. We have one of those already and we are still waiting to see if he can stick in more than a dozen goals next season. Honestly for £2.5M we would be better off buying 5 youngsters from Prem clubs and hoping one turns out to be a star.

Agreed, obviously there's alot of interest in Cox, he looked good at L1, he maybe a star of the future, but at 2.5 mill, the 'maybe's' are too much of a gamble!!

There isn't many strikers that have made the step up from League One to the Championship, Billy Sharp, Freddy Eastwood, Fryatt, all good playing lower league, but find it difficult to adjust in the Championship. I would still like to see Cox here next season, but just not for that kind of money.
Legend_in_blue Posted 22 June 2009 Posted 22 June 2009 Is £2.5 million a lot to ask? Really? I don't think it is. Sure, anything between £1.5 and £2 million might appear to be more sensible but then it's all about risk. Gamble. It could pay off. It might not pay off. I'm sure though if it's left and we walk away and we find ourselves in a situation of 'what if...?' there will be plenty of people moaning. People will say we should have stuck our necks out to get him in. If we really want to be a force next season, we need two or three players in excess of £1.5 million to shake things up a bit. We won't cut it with lots of loan signings and cast offs from other championship clubs (I'm thinking Carter here). If Doyle is being touted at £6.5 million to Wolves, £2.5 million doesn't sound too extreme to me.

If Doyle is being touted at £6.5 million to Wolves, £2.5 million doesn't sound too extreme to me. You can't really compare Doyle with Cox. Doyle is a striker who is proven in the Championship AND in the Premier League whereas Cox is a "promising" striker who admittedly has had a good season albeit in League 1. Doyle scored 18 Championship goals in the season leading to promotion to the Premier League followed by an impressive 13 in 32 in his first season in the Prem. With the amount of money being bandied about these days, £6.5 million isn't crazy money for someone like Doyle. £2.5 million for Cox however, is. Halve that and you've got a more realistic figure for a guy who you said yourself would be a gamble. Personally I hope we sign him because he does look a good prospect but only at the right price.
foxoffderby Posted 22 June 2009 Posted 22 June 2009 Striker deal off Leicester City, 14:09, June 22, 2009 Leicester City have ended their interest in Swindon striker Simon Cox by officially withdrawing their offer. The Foxes are fed up with a lack of response from the player and instead have decided to look elsewhere to bolster their forward line, but Swindon themselves say they are happy to keep their man. source:clubcall.com
Daveaway Posted 30 June 2009 Posted 30 June 2009 I see Swindon accepted 2 Millon pound offer from WBA for Cox. Do you think we were that interested in COX. Do you think we are in for someone else or do you think Pearson will go with Fryatt and Howard its looking that way!
