Wellens

He was head and shoulders their best player last season, they played some very good football, and he has been key to their play for a long time. Wellens, Stock and Coppinger I would gladly take, or have taken out of Donny into our team. You have signed yourself a very good player. The lad can play and the locals are gutted.

How are things looking on the sunny better of Sheffield?

he sounds completely gutted that he's leaving donacaster, we can't be that bad surely???? or is it a ploy to make donny sound more desirable to future replacements?

Good signing.

Wellens can play when on song, but i don't need to tell you all that, Richie has already stated it on the OS himself.

I knew him from his Blackpool days after coming from the Man Utd academy, a talented young lad on the pitch albeit (he did go missing in games alot when things never went his way) but big headed and arrogant off.

I really hope he's matured and settled himself down, as sometimes he really did think he was the messiah, the big i am, this team is me Richie Wellens.

Blackpool fans still give him loads of stick when he plays against them as they know it winds him up, to a point he even came out in the local paper and asked why they were doing it after all he had done for them, he's very tempermental that way.

I'm sure NP wouldn't stand any shit though so as i stated above good signing.

Looks like an absolute unit as well as apparently being half-decent at knocking a ball around. I wonder if we'll be partnered with King or Oakley? (or Clemence tee hee)

Question is now, who's going to make the starting lineup? In Oakley, King & Wellens we've got three very good central midfielders, a nice little problem to have for Pearson.

Maybe we can play a 4-4-2 for a change? :P

Our best run of form came last season when Oakley was on the right, with Davies and King in the centre. I'd stick to this, with Wellens alongside King, Oakley on the right and either Dyer or Gradel on the left.

Wouldn't complain with that at this stage (except you're maybe forgetting N'Guessan on the left as well?), but I'm not sure whether Oakley will be a capable enough right sided player in the Championship. Wouldn't surprise me if Pearson tried it though to accommodate all three though, so we'll probably soon find out.

 No probs happy to do so.

Things are looking good (dare I say it) for the first time in about 10-12 years. Good forward thinking chairman, the fan sueing ****s from the boardroom have resigned or been removed, hugely improved wage bill to add depth to the squad, a good young team with another years experience behind them, a manager the fans love and trust, massively improved infrastructure off the pitch, no need to sell our assets, shirt sponsorship deal with the Sheffield Childrens Hospital, foreign investment on the cards.

Nearly all of this improvement has happened in the last 6 months since we appointed Strafford as chairman and removed the last regime. Some of those people had been there since the beginning of the decline. This is the first season I have been genuinely excited about as a Wednesdayite since we were in the Premier League. The downward spiral and decline is over and Wednesday are back. I don't expect us to run before we can walk, but I think we'll improve on last season and at a push be in with a shout of the playoffs.

Hopefully we'll both be pushing the playoffs!

Was really impressed with him on sat, grabbed the game by the scuff of the neck. Great signing on that performance but let's hope he can keep it up and stay fit. We have needed a player like him for the last couple of years and we finally have him. If he continues with that form then king may be facing the bench? I think Oakley is much more effective in a CM role rather than out right and showed that in the 2nd half.

I think we could potentially get carried away with Waghorn but he too impressed me with his endevour and pace, let's hope it continues.

Exactly, i said that to the people who gave me a lift home.

This is why im tempted to spend £14 on

Wellens

19 on my shirt!

Looked a fine signing on that evidence. Like his willingness to attempt to retain possession even in tight situations. He also seems to see passes that nobody else in the side does...very clever player.

Seconded

I was really impressed by Wellens though to be honest, but I knew and understood what kind of player he is having watched him at Doncaster/Oldham before. He has a great first touch, he gets stuck in and his passing ability is unbelievable.Oakley for me is better in his natural position; centre midfield. He isn't a right winger and is more effective in the middle. Again, I was pleased with Oakley, thought he may have a difficult season this year but against one of the divisions top midfielders; Britton, he was fine. Tackling was superb. Please play N'Guessan on the right though at Portmand Road to have a go at Damien Delaney because following the Coventry/Ipswich game, Ipswich have a weak backline - Delaney isn't no good we all knew that at defending, and if Waghorn can run at McAuley that would be great. Also to have Dyer's pace against Alex Bruce would be ace as well because I don't think Bruce is a full back.

There is no doubt we can go there and get something, but looking at the record there. Well...
