king is an good player and an excellent rospect.

must keep him! simple

oakley pathetic?

for me, take oakley out of the equation = no championship last season. maybe even promotion

he had some poor games sure but more often than not even then he could influence a game in other ways by some good off the ball running to pick up loose balls or close down some space.

anyone at northampton away could see a poor scrappy game but oakley dominated in midfiled by doing this kind of job in a game where his usual good technique and ability was not neccersarily there.

I think I am with you as well.

Oakley did have some poor games - but they were mainly when the rest of the team were also dissapointing and when we lost.

I don't think King has been our most important player, because at times the midfield did get dominated such as when we lost to Millwall and there midfield dominated and liked to get heavily involved, tackling and muscling our players off of the ball etc.

For King to be the player he was in league 1, I think that his physical aspect of the game has to quickley improve. He always seems to either get muscled off of the ball or doesn't get involved. Sometimes, he was to get away with it because other sides' midfielder were very poor, hence they play league 1!

Going back to Oakley, I don't think that at times he was our best player and I thought that he wasn't even that good wide right.

One thing is for sure though, our midfield will need to be better to cope against teams within the championship or they will just overrun us. For me, Gradel and King will not be good enough, if Dyer goes missing again he won't be good enough, not to sure about Oakley.

With Wellens coming in and Darren Carter/Sammy Clingan linked, it looks as though we are taking it seriousley and going to try and push on in the championship which is good as I was initially scared as we signed someone from Lincoln of league 2.

King was key to us last season. But the big question is, can he carry on and play like he did in League One in the championship?

Villa will not spend £2m on King after one good season in League One, he needs to show he can do it higher leagues too, they probably have the most astute Manager and Chairman in England. Villa have been watching King, but they won't be putting a bid in for him yet.

Oakley was just as important too, for the people hating against him.

You forget that Oakley didn't exactly take the Championship by storm when he joined us. I certainly can't see him leading us to back-to-back promotions.

I don't expect him to, but I think he'll be better than last time

Exactly, now he has had a season as captain and that I also expect that he'll be better.

Anyway, I thought that he wasn't that bad in the championship when he first joined us. He constantly got stuck into tackles and his passing ability and first touch were great. His passing between the likes of Lee Hendrie were awesome - that reflected at West Brom away!

We were perhaps expecting too much of Matt Oakley.

From his previous years in the championship, he had been in a good Derby team (of course at Southampton as well, but they were mainly a top flight club).

When he came to Leicester, he was in a very, very poor side. And I think if we were to have been near the top of the table and not the bottom, then we would have seen the best Matt Oakley - that we have seen this year and sitting top of the table/near top of the table this year has not just been reflected on Matt but on the rest of the side that were relegated too such as Howard, Fryatt, even King etc.

We cannot just get on at Oakley because the rest of squad were all rubbish too and Matt and Stevie Howard both thought that they themselves got Leicester City relegated.

I think Oakley is alright, but his delivery from free-kicks and corners was pretty poor last season. There will be less chances in The Championship, so if he's the main kick-taker, I wouldn't be overly pleased.

I would like to add to the debate on how good our midfield was last season & now is.... by suggesting that the only player of real quality that we have, who I am truly proud of wearing the shirt is Tunchev!

Everyone else is average or worse. They are all inconsistent and all have things about their game which need vast improvement. To suggest that King is good enough for Villa's 1st team at present is nonsense, to defend some of his performances last season is ignoring them, and anyone who has no reservations on him for the Championship in the coming season is wearing Andy King shades sunglasses.

That said, he has time to improve, and does posses some quality with the ball at his feet. Some of the goals I have seen him score, show that he has talent and brilliant technique when hitting the ball and judging his shots.

OK .. her's my tak..

Football is a team game ... you always have some good and some not so good players in the team (Ask Martin O'neil)..

The key is to get them to compliment each other..Oakley and king did well together last season.. But I do think we're still lacking a gritty type to play along side both of them... If we don't get that sorted then we're going to struggle..

Mark Davies who is probably largely responsible for our promotion

Just a bit of a sweeping statement!

Admittedly, the guy did a very good job for us in the SHORT time he spent with us, and yes, gave us a boost when our form was stuttering slightly.

But, largely responsible for our promotion?! Pffft.

Defo numero uno. I was thinking to myself the other day that he might even be the best central defender in the Championship this coming season :fc:

So do I.

A strong midfielder that will tackle, get stuck in and show 100%.

Don't think we have had that since Neil Lennon left..... well, I carn't think of anybody.

i agree but on his day oakley can do this job and i know wellens does not shy away from a tackle.

For those of you that havent seen him play (wellens), hes a real terrier, small but bulky and will fight to win the ball back (probably the reason for his discipline record) and then get his head up straight away and look for 'that' pass, which is what we need.

Whether we will have enough 'presence' in midfield shall be seen, im confident the boys can do the job though!

Isn't this exactly the problem though? How many good days will he have? It was 50/50 last season, now we have stepped up to our normal weight can Oakley step up also? I think he is ok but nothing to write home about or put ultimate faith in.

dont see why not, if he wants it enough! not saying that is what you are implying but i have mentioned before how boring it is getting when people are already putting down our players for next season when they know full well they will be playing for us anyway! its like when people say fryatt isnt going to cut it, fair enough if we get to the end of the season and he has scored 5 or 6 goals and played poor the fair enough but lets wait until then! sick of it now tbh!

Sorry Tom, he had some off days (as do all players) but to say that half of his games were shite is bollocks.

Sorry if someone has already posted it but I can't see it.

LEICESTER are closing in on £1.5million-rated Gillingham striker Simeon Jackson, 22.

City plan to fund the move by flogging Andy King to Aston Villa for £2.5m.

The Gills signed Canadian international Jackson for £150,000 in January 2008.

Leicester are also mulling over a £750,000 move for Norwich striker Sammy Clingham.

I saw this in The Sun yesterday.

I haven't really heard of that Jackson though to be honest.
