Ipswich Match Thread

If we get at them early instead of coming out in the second half then I think we will take something from the game. Starting well is vital today because if we don't then Ipswich certainly have more quality than Swansea to make us pay.

Neilson --- Hobbs --- Brown --- Berner

N'Guessan --- Oakley --- Wellens --- Adams

Howard --- Fryatt

Prediction: 1-1 - Howard for City.

Ipswich 1 City 7. Keane to be sacked on Monday. If Carling did predictions this would be it. But you never know, if City get at them and show them no respect we will do them, i hate Ipswich. ;0)

I am going for a 1 - 3. Scorers Howard 2 & Waghorn. From what I have read and seen I would go for Adams on the left and leave Dyer on the bench.

Well despite loosing at The Richo Arena last Sunday, Ipswich Town have a very good and strong side for this division, capable of going somewhere.

After watching that match on the television, I personally think they have a weak back four. We all know the former Leicester players in that back four, Gareth McAuley and Damien Delaney who both looked weak. McAuley missed a header which caused Clinton Morrison to score a beauty, and I rekon Delaney isn't very good at defending, although he is fine at going forward and putting crosses in. To me, Alex Bruce is not a full back either and if he starts in that position, we need to play two wingers that will have a go at both full backs, please not Oakley on the right.

Ipswich's midfield seems strong and capable. David Norris sustained an injury that match which has put him out untill December/January time so obviousley a strong player will not be playing against us. Having said that, his replacement is fantastic and could cut it in the Premiership; Owen Garven. He a strong lad for 19/20 years of age, he is like Michael Ballack in the air, his passing ability and first touch are very good and he gets stuck in constantly so Oakley and Wellens will have a lot on thier hands if he starts. The wingers get forward well and the one on the left, Peters is very fast and small like Nathan Dyer of Swansea last week. Former Manchester United winger Lee Martin joined in the summer, he wears number 8 and is technically a superb footballer, he likes to play in the middle more than outwide I think. Nigel should start two natural full backs.

They haven't got any real big centre forwards although John Stead is fairly big, former Sheffield United star, he likes to attack the ball and is a superb finisher. We all know about the Spanish striker Counago who always seems to be in the correct position at the correct time, being a natural finisher in this division. Keane also started Walters last week and is a great finisher of the ball.

Neilson -- Hobbs -- Brown -- Berner

N'Guessan -- Wellens -- Oakley -- Dyer

Fryatt -- Howard

I have selected the side in accordance with the Ipswich team obviousley; although Robbie Neilson has not played this season, he should be fit and slip in for Morrison on the right as Peters is fast and I can see him having a nice, little go at Morrison as he isn't a natural full back.

Hobbs and Brown should have no trouble as Ipswich don't really trouble much in the air, apart from set pieces.

N'Guessan needs to start on the right instead of Oakley for me. He has scored 2 in 2 already, his pace should put Delaney in trouble and is a fairly bigger wide man to aim at.

Although Adams has really impressed me, I will start him on the bench and bring him on as an impact sub. If Alex Bruce starts full back for Ipswich, Dyers pace may be able to again, put Bruce in trouble. Same applies for Waghorn, I think I'd bring him on 50/55/60 minute when McAuley gets tired having played extra time in mid week so then Martyn can run at him.

Well, I think I'll predict, ignoring our terrible form at Portmand Road, 2-2.

Looking forward to seeing how Neilson fairs and the effect of his long throws. Also hoping Tunchev gets on in the second half and hoping Fryatt can carry on from wednesday and get a goal.

As I am always keen to find out the referess on the football league site tody we have PT Crossley I think he is.

Anyway I would play N'Guessan today with Waghorn on the bench providing Fryatt has match fitness, afetr Wednesday.

Not sure Fryatt will get a whole match.

Anyway, about the ref, what's his record?

Would love to see us win today but not sure how confident I'm really feeling. In all honesty, I think we'll be lucky to come away with a point. Ipswich are tough opposition and, as has been pointed out by many, Portman Road has been far from good to us in the past.

Hope all those who go have a good day in Sunny Suffolk.:scarf:

Pretty much sums up my sentiments exactly.. sounds like the others are having a bad journey with traffic on the A14 so I hope the lads can give them a good afternoons footy with 3 points at the end of it! :D

Failing that Id be happy with a point, like you say our record there isnt the best!

We always struggle against these bastards!!

But this time, things will change and I think that we'll scrape another victory.

COME ON CITY!!!

Ah, the joy of the A14. One of the shittiest roads in the country. Good luck with it. :fc:

See no reason we can't win. But as has been said before, would take a draw right now, and I won't be grumbling too hard if we lose. Good to see most fans are similarly realistic, we will need that sentiment in a league which is bound to see us lose a lot more often.

I'm of the opinion that Adams deserves a start but we'll go with Dyer methinks.

Winning there on consecutive occasions is highly unlikely.

We lost 3-1 last time at Portman Road mate, relegation season when Kisnorbo was sent off.

I will take a draw and be very happy with that. Just out of interest, how will people greet McAuleys name over the tannoy?

Personally Id treat it with complete indifference.... I think he'll get a few mild booes but cant see it gettin much of a reaction. Its not like we miss him

I don't see what he did wrong while he was here.:dunno: I know he left after we got relegated and he was part of the team that went down, but he wasn't a bad player while he was here and was part of one of the strongest defences in the league. He also got a few goals here as well.

He didnt IMO which is why Id not react when his name was called. Unless its one of the real favourites, once a players moved on from us I dont really think about them to be honest. Youll always get some fans that will boo ex-players though, its not something Ive ever really done apart from Dennis Wise, John Curtis, that sort of tosser! :D

Why would we boo McCauley?

They year we went down wa sall down to the strikers not scoring. He was part of a defence that had the 2nd best record, whilst I think we had the worst attack.

And we made a good profit on him so I think should be cheered. I remember when Dublin got cheered at the

Walkers for Norwich and he was shite! So was Elvis but people around me cheered him last year.

We were relegated and he asked for a transfer. :dunno:

Yeah but he was part of a team that got relegated - he didn't do it himself. And to be honest, can you blame him for wanting a transfer?
