Candidcamera Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 Tactically NP is usually the best but last night what was he thinking of playing N'Guessan, Fryatt, Howard and Gallagher. I think he saw that they would only have a young inexperienced lone front man and thought the game was there for the taking. Although Howard tried hard he does not hold the ball up just heads it on. I think that with the strikers we have we can do better than that. When N'Gessan is replaced during a match it would be good to see Gradel given a chance. Similarly Dyer and Adams. The formation put too much emphasis on Wellens and Oakley in the middle. That was why Newcastle were able to shoot from just outside the box. I would like to see Tunchev back soon. Brown was caught out by Ranger in the air and for pace. His passing is just awful. Indeed last night this was a criticism of a lot of the players. Nevertheless Leicester should have gone in 1 up and I think would have won the game. I was disappointed but not downhearted.
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 Kyle Ranger is the greatest player ive ever seen, what a debut. amazing.right bum fest that was. I agree. Most overrated debut ever (Zolt Laczko apart). Good performance but nothing spectacular imo.
lazthemag Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 Just got back from the game. Firstly, well done Newcastle. Great display tonight (especially 2nd half). Despite all their troubles, including injured strikers, they performed like a team that will bounce back at the first time of asking. It will take an almighty effort from an opposing team (or an off day themselves) for them to lose their current winning streak. Also, their fans were first class. Willing to shake hands before the match and wish us all the best and then offer the sympathies for not being able to take anything from the game.As to our performance, we gave it a shot. Not a bad effort all in all. That said, I'm losing my patience with N'Guessan. Having seen all our games so far, he's not living up to expectations. He may be an emerging talent, but like other emerging talents in our squad, there is a time and place to try them. What has gone on with Gradel? Has he been hanging out with Levi Porter or something? Its great to hear comments about how well you enjoyed your trip up here. Particularly for any Leicester fans that can't remember the last time you came up to St James'. The vast majority of fans can come and have a good time and enjoy the surrounding city bars (with the exception of the horrible mackems). I have had many a pre/post match pint with fans from West Ham, Liverpool, Celtic, ManUre etc etc and most recently Huddersfield. Generally the atmosphere has been better in the ground since we got relegated than it was when there were 10,000 more fans in the stands (oops seats!) and it's good to see teams like the foxes bringing a good crowd up to contribute to that atmosphere. As for the game, I thought we were getting out-played in the first half and we were struggling to string more than a couple of passes together. However, we did apply more pressure in the second half. Smith was great for us and by then, bg Nile Ranger was starting to come to grips with holding the ball up a bit better, one of which he layed onto Guthrie for his goal. I would expect Leicester to do alright this season on that showing but your team will need to support the front man a bit more to be more effective in front of goal. Good luck for the rest of the season (until we meet you again!). Lazthemag
Babylon Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 Kyle Ranger is the greatest player ive ever seen, what a debut. amazing.right bum fest that was. "He has everything a world class striker should have".... you mean apart from not having one shot, let alone on target, let alone a goal. Newcastles ventures forward and bugger up in the final third "what great play, unlucky final ball". Leicester go forward and bugger up in the final third "Rubbish, so poor, not going to do anything with such poor service" Leicester restrict their players to long shots "Newcastle are carving them open". Newcastle restrict us up front "Newcastle are defending fantastically" Steve Howard wins almost every ball played up to him "Alan Smith is winning everything against Howard". Absolute pile of shite SKY tv.

We won't be that nice next time.
Foxhateram Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 Something of a cliché but their quality showed and we aren’t in a position to match that, though we could of got something out of this if we had been just a bit luckier and managed to support Howard a bit more... McSheffrey’s available for 500k Then again from listening to the Sky commentator it was a terrific win for a Newcastle ravaged by injuries and uncertainty. What is all this we couldn't match their qaulity malarky. I watched the game on tv so i know you dont see all the runs and off the ball stuff but we lost 1-0 vs a side that on paper should have dicked us! In my opinion we matched them and they looked worried, we had most of the posession throughout the game (stats will probably say otherwise but when are they right?) we were just unlucky against their defense. We matched the top team in this league. i can take nothing but positives from this game. We need to work on the killer pass that penetrating ball and that finish that decides the game. They had one chance and scored it we had a few and didn't quite take them. Game of eqauls and we should be proud of that. You don't get anything in this league bowing down to so called better teams just because they have all these amazing names. I can see us challenging this year at the top. You heard it here first. I hope we dont get this we need a new striker malarky all season. Fryatt has scored 3 in 5 games thats bloody good and we have had goals from other areas as-well, we dont need new signings.
Guest Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 Thought our passing game looked good. Howard was amazing for 55mins except for putting it in the net. If we'd taken our chances we'd be talking about the Prem next season this morning. I guess therein lies the problem.
Kilworthfox Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 Dyer needs to go! One trick pony, he has pace but thinks he has the ability to be a footballer. He is only effective if he uses his pace to get behind a defensive line, he rarely does this. Also he only uses his right foot as a standing aid. Terrible player, should be no where near our first team. Neilson, horrendous signing! Gives away possession, Passing is terrible, can't cross, his long throws are ineffective and his is utter shit! Worst signing NP has made here. Hobbs was poor last night, but he is a good player and will get better the more matches he plays, Tunchev should come in for him at the moment. Fryatt created a great chance for himself, Yes he was greedy but that is the nature of the beast! If he was training with Arsenal all week ever week then he may have a different philosophy but he shot wide, instead of passing to the free man. Waghorn was no where to be seen after he came on. Howard was great rarely losing a header, but hardly ever had supporting players playing off of him. That was our game plan in the 2nd half and it supporting Howard is essential to playing off of him, no one decided to get within 5 yards of him! Wellens Class Class Class Class Class Class Class Class Class Class Class Class Class Class Class Class Class Class Class Class Class Class Class Class Class Class Class Class Class Class Class Class Class Class Class Class! Berner did ok Brown is a little suspect on the deck but for the most is a good defender Oakley did ok N'guessan never beat his man, but Enrique did play well, this kid needs more games at this level and we will have to put up with a few disappointing performances IMO to get a gem of a player. Gallagher, why is he playing on the wing? Surely he is a deep lying forward? Not his fault his performance last night, did as well as could be expected, play Adams there = it is his position!
Guest Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 I think that there were more positives than negatives from last night's game. Yes, we do lack something up front, but we are getting plenty of possession. Who knows, a little tweak here, a new addition there, and it could be different. I am not panicking over whether we can cut it in this division. Plus, as already pointed out, last season we were two divisions lower than Newcastle, plus they have managed to keep hold of some of their players. Oh, and thanks very much Sky TV for giving the travelling support the chance to spend today tired and grumpy. Thanks.
Flynny Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 At the end of the day, we lost to a team with more quality than us. No shame there. Dunno what Wayne Brown was doing as the shot went in but it was a bit of a thunderbolt, would have blazed over the bar 9 times out of 10. Danny N'Guessen -never seen such poor decision making from a winger in my life. Bags of skill, not a clue how to use it. Woeful. But yeah we really weren't too bad but there seems to be overreacting all over the place. I suppose it's good that we're not used to losing.
morris1234 Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 for me we were just too timid in that final third, we didnt want to try anything in case the ball ran out of play which most of the time it did!
Dr The Singh Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 I think first half we were the better, although playing a weaker Newcastle side, city still frustrated me, we got into good positions and made bad choices, our set pieces were poor and Gallagher on the left didn't really work for me!! Second half, there goal was decisive, as soon as they scored they became more resilient and we went astray and didn't really create anything, although nor did they! This was the acid test and it left me frustrated, defensively we are strong, if we are aiming for promotion this season we need to do better in the attacking sense!!
Flynny Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 Find the error(s) in the picture: Berner misses the block (fair enough, he's the left back), meanwhile Brown backs off far too much.
Leicfox Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 Find the error(s) in the picture: Weale ?? He did'nt need to dive as the ball was middle of the net. Just stand up and punch it over the bar.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 Berner misses the block (fair enough, he's the left back), meanwhile Brown backs off far too much. Brown did that a quite a few times during the night it was as if he was playing as a sweeper and the year was 1990.
MC Prussian Posted 1 September 2009 Author Posted 1 September 2009 Looking back at it, Guthrie's goal was a cracker - there's not much we could do about it, although the defending was a bit hapless. We could've gotten a draw or even won it, if it hadn't been for that poor forward play.
Asha Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 In the end I was very frustrated because for so long we competed with them and at times were the better side. The chances we had first half weren't taken, and at times like that Fryatt will have to consider being less selfish. But being at St. James Park, this massive, famous stadium with 40000 odd home fans, watching Leicester, and watching Leicester compete and play some fantastic stuff first half was amazing. Second half though, to be honest, there was nothing. There wasn't the closing down and determination seen in the first half. For the goal, any number of Leicester players could have closed Guthrie down and stopped him getting a shot in, but they didn't. 1-0 down, we never looked like equalising. We hardly created a chance of note, and it was frustrating to lose after playing so well first half. We deserved a point from the game. I'll take heart from the fact that we've gone to Newcastle away, arguably the hardest game of the season on paper, and we've had a decent attempt and were unlucky to lose in the end. Play like that first half all season and we'll be up near the play-offs at least. But again, it was a game of two halves, and second half we were a shadow of our first half performance. Pearsons tactics were fine for me, the only slight criticism I would have is why he didn't bring Adams on earlier. N'Guessan gave nothing of note after about an hour, and should have come off then. Adams had no time to try and make an impact. Overall, pleased with the way we played first half, and if we carried it on we'd have got something from the game. A monumental crossword fook-up made the journey home amusing as well. Not a bad night out.
Flynny Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 Brown did that a quite a few times during the night it was as if he was playing as a sweeper and the year was 1990. I actually said that during the game, hah. It might be an idea to play Tunchev against the better footballing sides and Brown against the more physical ones. He's a beast but no so great on the floor.
mancunianfox Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 I can't believe all of the negative comments about the game last night. At the start of the season we wouldn't have expected much from this but in the end we were unlucky to now come out of it with at least a point. We were the better team in the first half and all of the better chances fell our way. I thought the midfield did well and for the last thirty minutes of the half we looked very good. Second half was a different story as expected from a team playing well at home but Newcastle still didn't create too many chances. Brown should have closed down for the goal but stood off giving Guthrie plenty of space. He took it well and we can't afford to give away space around the box like that. After the goal Newcastle didn't want to know, they shut up shop and we couldn't find a way through them. I was quite surprised by how negative Newcastle were at home tbh but then they did have a few players out injured. There were plenty of positives to be found in that game and it could have gone either way. I think it shows a lot of progress that we gave a side full of decent premiership players like Nolan, Barton, Smith, Taylor, Enrique, Harper a good game. Not even really that worried about the home fixture anymore. As for N'Guessen he did struggle and release the ball to early but at the end of the day he was against Jose Enrique - a £6.3 million pound left back. He isn't going to come up against someone of his quality very often.
Dr The Singh Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 Berner misses the block (fair enough, he's the left back), meanwhile Brown backs off far too much. Agreed, Guthrie was given far too much time and space! It was one of a very few mistakes we made in defence and unfortunately got punished for it!
Unit Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 Not the best game, thought we deserved a draw though.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 I actually said that during the game, hah. It might be an idea to play Tunchev against the better footballing sides and Brown against the more physical ones. He's a beast but no so great on the floor. I hope it was just this game he does it. cos it really isn't great positional sense he should be up next to Hobbs and then it wouldn't of created the space for Guthrie. I first noticed it real early on in the first half and thought it might of been because the ball was skipping thru on the wet click surface. Can any one who watches games reguarly tell me if he normally defends this deep. Oh and before some cretin slates me i actually thought Brown had a decent game
davieG Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 For all the work good that Wellens & Oakley did in midfield they never got close enough to the penalty box, with their ability they should be attacking the box more and getting in there we need attempts and goals from them.
