Raj Posted 29 September 2009 Posted 29 September 2009 My Mum was diagnosed with Cancer (Of the Uterus) earlier this year after many months of being ill. Luckily it was diagnosed at an early stage(Stage 1B). After undergoing a hysterectomy to remove the cancer, which was 8cms x 3cms she is now undergoing Chemo. Chemo is bastard horrendous and has resulted in her losing weight, being constantly tired, losing her hair and generally being ill. However to ensure the Cancer doesn't return (hopefully) its something that has to be done. Im sure we now people who have sufffered with this disease as it seems to be more and more widespread and it not only affects the patients but the families too. I dont normally ask in general for Sponsorship but as its soemthing close to my heart(Hopefully not literally!) im making an exception!! So PLEASE donate whatever you can(albeit small) for my attempt at the Leicester Half Marathon(And if i dont beat Gen Smuts time i'll double the money made myself!!!!) Cheers in advance http://www.justgiving.com/RAJESH-KUMAR/ (mods you wanna put this in with the running and stuff thread after its had abit of exposure???)xx
hairy Posted 29 September 2009 Posted 29 September 2009 Lost my Mum to secondary cancer in July. After being given 3 months to live she fought it for 4 1/2 years but the cancer finally won. So this is something close to my heart too.

General Smuts Posted 29 September 2009 Posted 29 September 2009 Good Luck Rajipoos. When my Student Loan kicks in this week ill slip you some moolah of course. And don't worry, unless you have to finish the course on a stretcher you WILL beat my time! In fact i'll wait until you've completed it and i'll donate a quid for every 2 minutes you beat me by. Considering you will almost certainly beat my by at least 40 minutes, i'll start saving now (by having 1 pint less a night!).

DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 29 September 2009 Posted 29 September 2009 My partner and I both do collections for Cancer Research. She has also raised almost £1,000 in a memorial fund for her late husband who died from the disease. She does tombola once a year ( that is all she is permitted to do ), and never spends a fifty pence piece. They go into the fund. My sincerest sympathy to all who have lost a loved one due to this evil disease.
wirralsimon Posted 29 September 2009 Posted 29 September 2009 Donation made! I lost my mother to stage 4 Uterine Cancer nearly three years ago after a 4-year battle. I believe the chances are much better if caught early. I wish you the very best of luck with your half marathon. Simon
Salieri Posted 29 September 2009 Posted 29 September 2009 So sorry to hear about your mum, Raj. I sincerely hope she makes a full recovery. Cancer is a terrible thing that affects most people in their life one way or another. I lost my grandad to cancer and it was a horrible time. Cancer Research is the one charity i give to on a monthly basis but I would be very pleased to donate some extra cash to your appeal. All the best.
The Birch Posted 30 September 2009 Posted 30 September 2009 Had cancer myself a few years ago, chemo is tough, being sick/feeling tired all the time etc but you can get through it. Hope your mum gets better soon.

Hope your all Ok now Birch? Your right Chemo is a bitch. Me mums only had her first dose(out of 4) and is feeling shite all the time. She's getting alot of side effects and her hairs starting to fall out too(She's been told she will lose her hair....she was more concerned about that than the chemo and cancer, bless her!!!!)

You got more chance of training Roma and her beating Raj. I think we should concentrate more on the fundraising for a very worthwhile appeal rather than the time i finsih the event!!! (P.S Im starting to feel the pressure of actually completing it in a respectable time now as people have put so much of their hard earned money into it!!!)
Smudge Posted 30 September 2009 Posted 30 September 2009 This is from Mrs Smudge her cousin passed away with this horrible disease.

Yea I'm fine now thanks, been in remission for 4 years. Know what you mean about the hair falling out I hated that more than the being sick etc. Strangely my hair didn't fall out when I had chemo though. I had radiotherapy first and it fell out then it grew back and when I started the chemo it didnt fall out again, don't know why.
Trumpet Posted 30 September 2009 Posted 30 September 2009 Horrible disease, will definitely be making a donation, bit strapped for cash at the moment and wondering whether i'll be able to in a few weeks time?
