cecchini Posted 1 October 2009 Posted 1 October 2009 For the life of me, I cannot remember a press report, even when we were doing well in the MoN years that was favourable. Always accused of "route 1 football" etc anybody else think the same?
Rocky Dennis Posted 1 October 2009 Posted 1 October 2009 Most press is heavily biased towards London clubs. Remember, God made London on Day 1, and then built the rest of the world <_<
jonah Posted 1 October 2009 Posted 1 October 2009 every team of our status or stature think the press hate them, its because in the press eyes we are a nothing team if we play so called bigger clubs then theres more to be gained from the press side to concentrate on them, if we play a smaller club then again the giant killing makes better reading than satisfying what is to them a small minority of readers in leicester city fans. same could be said of properbly 80% of the championship.

I would rather we were hated than be like Newcastle and patronised "the Nile Ranger" commentary springs to mind. As if our fans are utter idiots
ivarti Posted 1 October 2009 Posted 1 October 2009 Bochum in Germany is a club that no one really talk much about. They have played in the Bundesliga for 40 years. Never had a player who have played for the German national team, and no one bothers, besides Bochum fans. The same is with Leicester and of course a number of other clubs in England, such as Coventry, Wigan, Hull, Stoke, Bolton, Blackburn, Fulham and several others. Leicester grabbed the headlines world wide when they appeared at La Manga, and that is what people outside Leicester and England connect Leicester City with.
Bert Posted 1 October 2009 Posted 1 October 2009 Who cares? I'm glad we're not in the media spotlight, it just leaves us to get on with things. Just look what happened with our last media mogul manager.
Ford Super Sunday Posted 1 October 2009 Posted 1 October 2009 The more we are left alone the better really. Certainly the press ignore us, but that's understandable isn't it. I have an enormous archive of clips from The Championship and Sky Sports News from 2007-2008, from Milan's takeover to relegation, we were featured heavily then. We also got some good spreads in match reports and such like, but that's when something exciting was happening at the club, takeovers, managers being sacked, managers coming and going, relegation and a manager who liked to say 'funny' things. The press don't like stability, they don't like something mundane and dull like a team doing well in the CCC and having a solid manager. I would much rather have this much limelight (hardly any) over teams like Peterborough, who had a lot of media jizz dumped on them over the summer, only for things not exactly to go to plan at London Road. The less press attention we get, the more we can focus on being a solid, top CCC club. I'm sure when we are top of Division 1, and if we get to the Prem, they'll be down to Belvoir and Walkers like a pack of wolves. Till then, enjoy the bliss that is being ignored.

Joe. Posted 1 October 2009 Posted 1 October 2009 I don't think it's important really, and I'm sure it's widespread for most of the football league clubs. It seems unless you're in the Premiership you won't get arse-raped by the press (unless you're Newcastle of course), so I think we should be used to it now.
OzFox Posted 1 October 2009 Posted 1 October 2009 Most press is heavily biased towards London clubs.Remember, God made London on Day 1, and then built the rest of the world <_< In the mid 90s I was working at London Weekend Television and found myself editing the highlights of a Millwall v Leicester match. Sitting alongside me was a producer. All the way through the match, the commentary from Brian Moore was, as usual, incredibly biased towards the London club. Two Millwall players were deservedly sent off, then David Oldfield was blatantly head-butted in the face by a Millwall player, something that was clearly shown on many slow motion replays. It should have been a third sending off, but there was not a peep from Brian Moore. Minutes later, a wound up Oldfield got sent off himself, almost followed by Neil Lewis. This turn of events was greeted with obvious joy by the commentator. Sitting in the edit suite, I went nuts and spent the rest of the game slagging off Moore, calling him every name under the sun, crap commentator bla bla bla..... The producer sitting next to me kept very quiet. I found out later that he was Brian Moore's son, Simon. I felt bad for a while but then again I'd made my point and hopefully it got back to his old man. I still think its one of the most biased bits of commentary I've ever heard.

In a way its nice not to get any media attention as it means we are not in the process of looking for ANOTHER manager!!!
Ozwin Posted 1 October 2009 Posted 1 October 2009 Who hates us? Granted I only read the Sun but they don't seem to 'hate us,' they give a decent report as to who was the better side.
leicesterfox86 Posted 1 October 2009 Posted 1 October 2009 We are just one of the clubs that gets less attention. Never going to change. Leeds have been in League One for three years now and they get bigger press than most Championship clubs.
Alexikokopops Posted 1 October 2009 Posted 1 October 2009 I can't honestly say I've noticed it. There was the Newcastle game but that was because it was Newcastle, not because it was Leicester. Oh, and Gary Birtles was involved.

Perhaps they watched some of the football we dished up under Levein, Kelly and Holloway!
Free Falling Foxes Posted 1 October 2009 Posted 1 October 2009 We got a very positive press around the entire planet when we let the trees take the lead in the 'Clive Clarke' re-arranged match.
Corky Posted 1 October 2009 Posted 1 October 2009 I'm pleased we're left alone to get on with the job quietly.
Guest Bilo Posted 1 October 2009 Posted 1 October 2009 So far as I can see, the press couldn't give a shit about us in reality. Their loathing seems to be reserved for the likes of Leeds and Millwall rather than us. The only media figure who I felt had any hostility towards us was Jimmy Greaves on ITV in the 1990s, it was if he'd caught Brian Little and John Gregory spitroasting his missus or something.
foxaholic Posted 1 October 2009 Posted 1 October 2009 Most press is heavily biased towards London clubs.Remember, God made London on Day 1, and then built the rest of the world <_< agree live 30 miles from Leicester and morning papers never report Leicester and the Evening one always says Leicester lucky
The Doctor Posted 1 October 2009 Posted 1 October 2009 Who gives a fook? it would appear that cecchini does.
Far Post Gerry Posted 1 October 2009 Posted 1 October 2009 The press just don't give a toss about 'unglamorous' teams. We got the same treatment in the MON days, just like Bolton are getting now - no big money, no big name signings = nothing to write about. Especially if you're a lazy, band-wagon-jumping jouno like most of the tabloid press. They haven't got anything against us; they just can't be arsed to do their research so they reel off the same old shit. Don't lose sleep over it.
lou Posted 1 October 2009 Posted 1 October 2009 Chris Camara definately doesnt like us and always goes on about us "cheating" by going into administration before the points deduction etc etc (like it would have made any difference to getting promoted anyway) My view is pretty much like those who said its probably better to be out of the limelight than in it to be honest.
