maddog Posted 17 October 2009 Posted 17 October 2009 Boring, shit dull match. They were absolutely awful, but we weren't much better. Once again our horrible lack of Midfield combined with a lack of pace and cutting edge up front cost us 2 more points. Oakley on the right wing He's never there, he's always in the middle and we have no width on the right. Once again it was a poor performance from Oakley, for me the worst player consistently so far this season, every single game he gives the ball away sloppily many times, and wastes corners and free kicks. Of course being the Captain he won't be dropped. Wellens once again started the game looking sharp but faded. King i hardly noticed again, and only Dyer, Berner and Morrison provided us with any attacking penetration up the wing. Howard was crap. Even Fryatt looked off again. The next few games will shape our whole season, the table is so fooking tight and if we are really going to challenge for the playoffs this season then games like Derby at home must be won. Now Tuesdays game is a must must win, with 2 awayers coming up, but in all honestly in the last few games at home we've looked no better than a bottom half Championship side, 2 points from 3 home games is very poor. I really hope Pearson mixes it up Tuesday, and plays actual players in their actual respective positions. So no Oakley or Gallagher on the wing, and no Kermo in Midfield. Shocking decisions today from Pearson. Dany N'Guessan was an inconsistent performer but he's our 2nd top goalscorer and provided us with width up the right hand side, when Adams has played this season he's looked superb, yet he plays Oakley there leaving us with basically no right winger and N'Guessan hasn't even made the bench in the last 2.
Hugo Sanchez Posted 17 October 2009 Posted 17 October 2009 As if you needed me to tell you, but some of our fans are cretins. Despite a decent atmopshere during the game (helped by a lot of standing in SK1), there were sections of booing in the Kop after the final whistle, after a whole game of antagonistic 'advice' to our players - 'get it forward' followed by 'take your time'. Unbelievable. Our fans seem to respond badly to our calm and considered approach. Would you prefer we go back to 2006 and have Stearman, McAuley and Kisnorbo take turns booting it long and out of play? At least we'd be getting the ball forward. Today, it didn't pay off. Our possession game suited Derby's dire tactics perfectly - it really did play into their hands. Having said that, I thought some of our football, particularly in the first half, was nice to watch and if we had scored, we might be sitting here tonight praising the team for going 4th in the Championship. Derby came into it a bit more in the second half for various reasons and probably did create the better of the chances later on. What happened with Savage's free kick, did it hit the post? In the last couple of games, Pearson's made changes that have won us an extra 3 points, but I couldn't understand Kermorgant for Dyer today. Baffling. Nevermind, you're bound to have some disappointing days. The good thing is we can put it right on Tuesday. (Maybe.) Seriously why do you always slag our fans off ? Go and support Sheff Wed FFS. Its how football fans are. They pay to watch their team win and its a local derby !
Nugent Posted 17 October 2009 Posted 17 October 2009 King was excellent today, Howard had a good game aswell.
davieG Posted 17 October 2009 Posted 17 October 2009 what did people think of McGivern? He's quite tall and I like his hair as for his footballing ability I've never seen him play
lildave3 Posted 17 October 2009 Posted 17 October 2009 Derby were ****ing shit. No idea how we didn't beat them.
maddog Posted 17 October 2009 Posted 17 October 2009 King was excellent today, Howard had a good game aswell. Define a good game from Steve Howard He was crap today just like he's been all season, i was shocked Pearson didn't stick with Fryatt/Kermo. But the way Fryatts been the last few games i would like to see Campbell/Kermo or Waghorn/Kermo or Campbell/Waghorn Tuesday. We have been so fooking frustrating these last few games, and are slowly wasting our chance this season.

Yay for me.

maddog Posted 17 October 2009 Posted 17 October 2009 I just hope we win Tuesday so i can forget about today.
C-man Posted 17 October 2009 Posted 17 October 2009 Good and please don't come back to the walkers in the near future unless you're in the Wednesday end. Sorry, I still support Leicester. I'll be there against Plymouth, along with 20,000 'cretins'. Will you be there?
Ozwin Posted 17 October 2009 Posted 17 October 2009 Why are you at the Wednesday game? Free ticket or something? I hope you don't have 2 teams...
CosbehFox Posted 17 October 2009 Posted 17 October 2009 The mass over-reaction pre-match threads start off again. Dominated for long spells but we don't possess a player with some geniune class and we won't until Mandaric puts his hand in his pocket. Some fine performances IMO. I am not going to worry about it too much. Disappointed, frustated but there we go. They were frankly awful however but as said it suited them for us to play possession stuff. Nothing which can't be tweaked for Tuesday. The build-up needs to be quicker and the use of width more evident.
C-man Posted 17 October 2009 Posted 17 October 2009 Why are you at the Wednesday game? Free ticket or something? I hope you don't have 2 teams... It costs a fiver for students in Sheffield, and realistically, I can't afford to come back for the Palace game.
Ozwin Posted 17 October 2009 Posted 17 October 2009 Ah right fair enough. It saddens me that you have Tudgay as your avatar though.
Bugg Posted 17 October 2009 Posted 17 October 2009 The train from leicester to derby at the end of the game was fooking shocking. as tight as sardines in a can.

Ozwin Posted 17 October 2009 Posted 17 October 2009 Awww, he changed it for me! Good man. Now be more positive.

Dominated for long spells but we don't possess a player with some geniune class and we won't until Mandaric puts his hand in his pocket. DJ scored for fun in his time at Blackpool so how come he sits on the bench even when Howard and Fryatt have trundled to a near standstill and while we prefer to play Kermorgant as a slow boat in some sort of no-man's land and Waghorn who, apart from that lethal left-foot looks way short of Championship class? I watched Leacock after Howard had chased him away from his comfort xone towards the corner flag and the bloke look knackered. We needed someone like DJ to run him and turn him til his eyes were banging together like clackers. He might make mistakes like everyone else but at least he gets into the box and threatens.
dandannieldanok Posted 17 October 2009 Posted 17 October 2009 What a dreadful second half effort against a dreadful team. If we can't create chances against that lot then we've got no hope. First half was ok but second half it looked like we weren't bothered. You can't necessarily say two points dropped because there was no concerted effort to win the game. If you look at it in the context that Derby (mainly in the first half) were pathetic, then yes it is two points dropped.
Tommeh Posted 17 October 2009 Posted 17 October 2009 Why are you at the Wednesday game? Free ticket or something? I hope you don't have 2 teams... Thing is we'll also be at QPR in a few weeks whilst 95% of city fans will have their knees up on Sky. As for today, very patient approach especially Brown showing he really can play but we just over relied on Morrison a centre half asked to play right wing at times, felt sorry for him. Wellens and King were good Oakley went in and out but occupying all 3 is tough and I doubt the way pearson did it today will work much longer. Said I'd take a point pre game, but Derby really were there for the taking today.

Thracian Posted 17 October 2009 Posted 17 October 2009 "there was no concerted effort to win the game". How right you are. And it's not for the first time we've played like that. Ipswich and Newcastle were the same and even Preston and Peterborough to a great extent. I'm not sure we even needed a back four for much of the match anyway. But when we persist with a seond striker who never scores while ignoring a guy who scored for fun in the Championship you do have to wonder why. We cannot go on having just one goalscoring centre-forward and persisting with a team strategy that has seenus score only one goal or less in 10 of our last 12 matches. At least Kingy was given more licence today and fired off his first admittedly rusty shots for weeks. But we need goals and goal threats from lots more quarters. The facts are clear to see.
