Only 6 points separate 19th place and 3rd place, that it why it is crucial we take advantage in games like today. Had we taken advantage today and at Watford just to name a couple, we would be 3rd. Must win game Tuesday now, another draw or worse at home going into those 2 away games and we could suddenly find ourselves deep in the bottom half easily.
Lillehamring Posted 18 October 2009 Posted 18 October 2009 Forest snuck up pretty fast i don't think they even scored for the first 3 or 4 games.... waaaaay too many draws, it seems; when we went down, we had a similar pattern of tight defence, not enough goals and too many drws.... and the worst thing is that most of those drws were from a lack of adventure or from being poor in the final third....
jonthefox Posted 18 October 2009 Posted 18 October 2009 i know its early, but weve got to be happy in 8th.
Legend_in_blue Posted 18 October 2009 Posted 18 October 2009 Forest snuck up pretty fast Having watched their performance against Newcastle yesterday, it's easy to see why. You don't have to have a team full of greatness, but the willingness to get forward and with pace will go a long way in this league. We have the personnel to do it and yet we continue to restrict ourselves with the system that we play.
haraven Posted 18 October 2009 Posted 18 October 2009 I was just thinking the same, you can go from heroes to villains in one match - there is so little that seperates the top from bottom. I am not worried yet, I think we are doing fine. I am however slightly concerned about the goal scoring rate. We should have nailed Derby yesterday.
davieG Posted 18 October 2009 Posted 18 October 2009 i know its early, but weve got to be happy in 8th. 8 Leicester 12 3 2 1 7 5 1 4 1 6 6 2 18 9 Bristol City 12 4 2 0 8 3 0 4 2 3 7 1 18 10 QPR 11 2 3 0 12 5 2 2 2 5 5 7 17 11 Sheff Utd 12 2 4 0 12 9 2 1 3 8 9 2 17 12 Watford 12 1 3 2 9 13 3 2 1 8 6 -2 17 13 Sheff Wed 12 3 2 1 13 7 1 2 3 6 9 3 16 14 Crystal Palace 11 2 2 2 6 8 2 2 1 6 4 0 16 15 Coventry 12 2 3 1 9 8 2 1 3 7 10 -2 16 Tuesday, 20 October 2009 Blackpool v Sheff Utd, 19:45 Bristol City v Plymouth, 19:45 Cardiff v Coventry, 19:45 Doncaster v Peterborough, 19:45 Ipswich v Watford, 19:45 Leicester v Crystal Palace, 19:45 Middlesbrough v Derby, 20:00 Nottm Forest v Barnsley, 19:45 QPR v Reading, 20:00 S****horpe v Newcastle, 19:45 Sheff Wed v Preston, 19:45 West Brom v Swansea, 19:45 8th is ok but not as good as it was because now we'rehaving to look over our shoulders as all the teams below us have caught up. Big IF but if we lose to Palace and they all win and some only need to draw we'll be 15th.
marbelladave Posted 18 October 2009 Posted 18 October 2009 i know its early, but weve got to be happy in 8th. Really, A couple more performances like yesterday and we will be firmly into the bottom half of the table. Maddog is right, we need to sharpen up and we need to do it now! As has been said elsewhere, there really are very few outstanding teams in his division and no one really dominating as even Newcastle managed to lose to the Trees. We really could be doing a lot better than 8th but in traditional FoxesTalk fashion I have to declare myself "very pleased with the start to the season" and satisfied with our performance as "I would have taken 8th place at this stage". :frusty:
SMX11 Posted 18 October 2009 Posted 18 October 2009 Im not a Steve Howard hater but it is clear that we go single minded in our approach when he is playing. He will never make any decent runs for through balls and I believe that was half the trouble yesterday. We really should be higher than we are imo <_<
Fox92 Posted 18 October 2009 Posted 18 October 2009 This may sound unrealistic but were 8th, and so easily could be top. Look at the games in which we haven't won: Ipswich away - a few chances that game we didn't take. Sheffield Untied away - loads of chances the game we didn't take. Newcastle away - a chance or two that game we didn't take. Peterborough home - can't remember really. Watford away - dissapointing to throw away a 2-0 goal advantage, should have won. Preston home - ok, that game, we were complete rubbish. Coventry away - A few chances that game. Derby home - n/a. Fair result. So, although I am pleased with 8th, we could be higher in the league but I am not complaining - we have just been promoted from League 1. I think that this season is make or break, if we don't go up we never will. I mean, it was Bristol City's chance when they came up like we have done, they were great and lost in the play off final, but look at them now. It was MK Dons' chance last season to win promotion to this league. 8th, is ok, some of our performances are great where as others are rubbish. I can't work it out, but thats football and thats great.

FoxesFan123 Posted 24 October 2009 Posted 24 October 2009 Would I be right in saying this time next week we could, possibly, be anywhere between 1st and 17th? Woah, thats tight!
Corky Posted 24 October 2009 Posted 24 October 2009 It is very tight, and I'm glad to be nearer the top end than near the bottom, as was the norm in the past seasons in this division. It's good that not one side is running away with it.

MC Prussian Posted 25 October 2009 Posted 25 October 2009 Although practically impossible, we could go top after the QPR game, eh? I'm doing a maddog here and just state the obvious. What a fancy-schmancy time-waster, that one was.
StanSP Posted 25 October 2009 Posted 25 October 2009 Whoever plays left wing for QPR is gonna have a field day playing against Neilson (if he plays of course)
maddog Posted 25 October 2009 Author Posted 25 October 2009 Whoever plays left wing for QPR is gonna have a field day playing against Neilson (if he plays of course) I think we would be best playing Brown Hobbs Morrison across the centre of the pitch, and playing 5 in the midfield with the actual wingers playing. So don't play wing backs at all. This way we can try and dominate the midfield, and stop them before they get near our back four. Can any of our defenders play sweeper
Scow Posted 25 October 2009 Posted 25 October 2009 Whoever plays left wing for QPR is gonna have a field day playing against Neilson (if he plays of course) Unfortunately it's this .
StanSP Posted 25 October 2009 Posted 25 October 2009 Unfortunately it's this . He played more of a central role yesterday against Derby - although QPR may pinpoint the RB weakness and stick him on the left. Routledge looked lively on the right but hopefully Berner has a good game
