flanimal Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 Why would Davids not play awesomely? If he puts in some good performances, he could get himself into the Holland World Cup squad. But seriously, how did this Davids thing happen? Is Davids desperate to get back into football, and desperate for more money, and so he told his agent to search Europe for a club foolish enough to sign a player who has been retired for a year? Agent: "Edgar, there's a club in England called Leicester City, they seem to love signing shit old players and paying them huge sums of money". Edgar: "Where's Leicester?" Agent: "It's near Nottingham" Edgar: "Where's Nottingham?" Agent: "It's near Birmingham" Edgar: "Where's Birmingham?" Agent: "Nevermind. All that matters is they are mental and willing pay you a shitload of money to stand in the middle of a football pitch and wear your sunglasses". Edgar: "You sure?" Agent: "They paid Denis Wise £20k to stand on a pitch and wear a shit-eating grin" Edgar: "Who's Denis Wise?"
Gené and Tonic Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 To be honest, you should all stop questioning Davids ability and "can davids still do it?". I mean, were talking about one of the best midfielders of his time, and he wouldnt of lost all that class, even if he has lost some pace, he's still got his footballing brain, and hes got it all tucked up inside his head. He'll do a cracking job for us just sitting infront of the defence, tidying up & bringing others into play and possibly going on those driving runs that he use to do so many times, once hes fit of course. And also, with his footballing brain which someone of his class wouldnt of lost, he isnt going to be hoofing it up to howard is he? SIGN HIM UP!!Seriously, Davids would probably make all the other midfielders in the championship look silly.. Infact all the players in the championship look silly.. Davids will be a different class IF he signs. Thing is you could say the same about Romario or Rivaldo. One point is though that it's different for a defensive midfielder than it is for a striker - strikers lose sharpness and pace, which is much more of a hinderance for them. Central defenders usually play well right up to the late thirties, and Tudgay proved that ageing midfielders can still cut it too. Motivation will be a whole different story however...

You'd complain if we signed 36 year old versions of Rivaldo and Romario. Half of Brazil wanted Romario in the national side at that age, he was the top scorer in Brazilian domestic football (41 goals in 46 games for Vasco de Gama), and Rivaldo still ripping up the Greek league (1 in 2 for Olympiakos). Davids was one of the best players of his generation, right up there with these guys. We're not talking about Jason Wilcox or Paul Dickov here!

flanimal Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 Serious though. If Davids is ready to get back into football, if he still has some quality - why come to Leicester? Why not the Turkish leagues, or Greek leagues, or an Italian Serie B team? I don't understand what the appeal of Leicester would be, when I'm sure many other more attractive teams would have him and pay him similar money. Maybe Leicester's fried chicken diners and pound shops are finally getting the international recognition they deserve.
Finnegan Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 Why not the Turkish leagues, or Greek leagues, or an Italian Serie B team? Because the Serie B and Greek Leagues are shit and the Turkish league is pretty shit outside of the top few clubs. The Championship has higher attendances and more competitive football than most of Europe's leagues. It's easy to write off the Championship because we know it as just the second tier on our doostep; but England is one of the few countries that actually has a footballing pyramid that goes anywhere beyond it's top league.
Samilktray Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 Gutted he aint signed yet, its all thats kept me going today at work.
Dames Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 If Hull are interested he'd end up there. Phil Browns a willy puller like that.
Jiggers the Fox Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 If Hull are interested he'd end up there.Phil Browns a willy puller like that. id like to think that were a better prospect than hull are right now, despite them being in the premiership
Fox You Forest Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 I can't stop checking this thread, literally every 5 minutes I'm pressing refresh. I'm the same and I'm not even that keen on the idea.
maddog Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 I hope this isn't going to be a Dany N'Guessan/Simon Cox/Yann Kermo style transfer dragging out. If so this thread will make 100 pages.
flanimal Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 Still, he hasn't played since summer 2008. So, when the Euro Championships were happening, he hadn't played for about 2 months before that. When you think about it like that, it feels quite a while. Also, what does Davids have to gain from this besides the money? Davids, worked in some of the worlds most wonderous cities... Amsterdam, Milan, Barcelona, London... and Leicester.
Dames Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 id like to think that were a better prospect than hull are right now, despite them being in the premiership Yeh but Phil Brown will throw more money at him tbh.
AjcW Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 If Hull are interested he'd end up there.Phil Browns a willy puller like that. Bobby Zamora rejected Phil Brown's friend requestFraizer Campbell rejected Phil Brown's friend request Marc-Antoine Fortune rejected Phil Brown's friend request Michael Owen rejected Phil Brown's friend request Its only a matter of time before...... lavrentis Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 Yeh but Phil Brown will throw more money at him tbh. Most players reject Hull though for some reason.

Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 Surely just a matter of time now till it is announced.
