Alexikokopops Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 I'm telling you - he will be shit. We're not talking about signing Davids - we're doing nothing more than potentially signing the memory of Davids. Does no one stop to wonder why no one has come in for him until us? Do you not think that there's a shit good reason for this? I think most people think this. Then they think of EDGAR fucking DAVIDS in a Leicester shirt and any rationality goes out the window. Me included. EDGAR fucking DAVIDS
Bluefoxtim Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 I for one am concerned re this proposed transfer. Edgar Davids admittedly on his day was a brilliant player especially for the Dutch footy team. However, he is now aged 36years old his best playing days are behind him and my Spurs supporting mate told me his legs had gone when he was at Spurs? How much influence has Mandaric had in this? I would say all of it! Worryingly, Middlesborough are after a new manager and Pearsons name is on their hit list( albeit Strachan is beleived to be the 1st choice). As other posts have mentioned Pearson now has a dilemma when it comes to picking the team if Davids does sign? Does he go for our established midfield as it is now, and they haven't done too bad a job or does he drop King or Wellens for Davids? Who would expect to play every week if he were to sign, due to his imaging rights and sponsorship etc. Let's not forget he hasn't played in over a year and will be woefully short of match practice etc etc. I for one pray this doesn't happen we signed Dickov, Freund, at the ages of 35 and 36 and look where that got us. No player is ever bigger than one club, look what Hasselbank did at Cardiff. Was a nightmare in the dressing room and had a very bad attitude! The only think I can think of is our next sponsors are going to be Specsavers and with Davids at the helm Mandaric can see a possible source of income? But again, missing this point. Dickov & Freund .............. Edgar Davids. You simply can't put them in the same bracket.
davieG Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 Apparently it would be a performance based contractLink If that's not a load of bullshit then at least that a little reassuring for a big doubter like me who's not unduly impressed by 'big names'.
ACF Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 If Nigel wants him, you've gotta think there's still something there in EfD. If it IS a performance based contract, we should give him a go. EDGAR fooking Davids!
Bluefoxtim Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 I am not at uni until 4pm today and I have tomorrow off. Think I'm going to be glued to the screen waiting for the 'breaking news'. Wouldn't suprise me if this really dragged on as he'll be getting more interest since this story broke i'm sure.
suffolk fox Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 But again, missing this point.Dickov & Freund .............. Edgar Davids. You simply can't put them in the same bracket. You can when their legs have gone at the age of 36 and Mr Davids has not played competitive football in over a year! End of!
Bluefoxtim Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 You can when their legs have gone at the age of 36 and Mr Davids has not played competitive football in over a year!End of! But this isn't a purely footballing move. Surely you can see that? If it was anyone else, people would be incensed.
Babylon Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 Apparently it would be a performance based contractLink So basically it's all about marketing and he might make the odd cameo. At least they are honest
MC Prussian Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 Nigel Pearson has not admitted that a potential signing of Davids has been his idea. In the BBC Sport excerpt, he only said that "there's been interest" - undoubtedly coming from the chairman. EDIT: Decision to be made by the weekend. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/t...ity/8317903.stm
davieG Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 But this isn't a purely footballing move. Surely you can see that? If it was anyone else, people would be incensed. Maybe not but football is part of it and the whole package needs to work for it to be successful if not people will feel cheated. Imagine all those extra shirts and match tickets being sold and then he sucks on the pitch many of those people will feel conned and could be lost for a long time. Not only that but any initial increase in attendances will dissipate as quickly as they rocketed up in the first instance.
Dr The Singh Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 So basically it's all about marketing and he might make the odd cameo. At least they are honest Performance based contract may suit both the club and Davids, financially, but is Davids gonna do for socail life etc seeing as he's here to doss????
Babylon Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 This is ridiculous... you just know those americans that came over said "Look what David Beckham did for LA Galaxy, increased attendances and shirts etc. Why don't you sign an ex superstar and do the same. Preferably one who has dreads and glasses so you can really rape the punters on the marketing side."
AoWW Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 Couldn't agree more.Small town thinking gets small town results. Milan - Go for it! (provided he's fit of course!) I think he's fit.
Thracian Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 The signing of Davids has Mandaric all over it. The bloke is all but certain to prove a busted flush. I'm all for buying quality and the best you can afford but not when it's shelf life has expired. I would far sooner we'd invested some real money in Davies or Cleverley and properly developed the likes of Gradel. So few veterans make an impact here. It is more a case of seeing that their springs have gone and their batteries have run flat.
Babylon Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 Davies or Cleverley Whilst I agree... we couldn't have got either. Man United don't want to sell Cleverley and Davies would never have joined a league one team over a premier team.

Man United don't want to sell Cleverley and Davies would never have joined a league one team over a premier team. Times I've been told "you'll never get this or that" but there's been a way. And even if there wasn't the principal remains. Yet I can't see us developing any exciting young talent here beyond Academy level. In fact we seem to have passed the cost of Gradel onto Leeds to help us fund the arrival of Old Father Time. Perhaps we could flog Kingy and bring Lee Hendrie back while we're at it.
Babylon Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 This whole thing is a bit like people who pay prostitutes to stand on their balls. • It's going to cost them a lot of money. • When people find out what they've done they'll end up shamed and embarrassed. • It's definitely going to hurt and could end in disaster. • they'll feel dirty and disgusted in themselves after. ...But they can't help but get a little turned on by it.

Yet I can't see us developing any exciting young talent here beyond Academy level. Perhaps you should offer your services as a professional negotiator then. I'm sure you could convince Sir Alex to release one of his prized young assets, and there is no doubt Mark Davies would have accepted your terms rather than play in the premier. Arse talking stop please of out your.

teblin Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 No Matter what we say about past golden oldies we have signed, this guy is in a different league to those ones. If he is fit this will be a good signing in this league.

Flynny Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 I was thinking more of Thracian replacing Samuel L Jackson as the 'Negotiator'!!!! I've got a lecture in 10 minutes else I'd be furiously photoshopping right now. Anyone?
