SOCCERROO FOX Posted 21 October 2009 Posted 21 October 2009 36 year old former star who hasn't played for a bit.......................sounds like an A-League signing.
Ozwin Posted 21 October 2009 Posted 21 October 2009 Any momentum to this since 3pm? Can't be arsed reading 10+ pages.
StanSP Posted 21 October 2009 Posted 21 October 2009 Any momentum to this since 3pm? Can't be arsed reading 10+ pages. nope just some more EDGAR FOOKING DAVIDS !!
Ozwin Posted 21 October 2009 Posted 21 October 2009 If he signs I'll be dissapointed if I don't see that on someone's shirt.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 Why am I looking for developments on this at one in the morning? Because it would be brilliant.

MC Prussian Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 The idea of Edgar Davids playing in a Leicester shirt at age 36, after an entire year outside of professional football, does worry me. Did somebody say Sol Campbell? The similarities between those two stories are mind-boggling. But I do see the marketing machinery has already been set in motion.
Ozwin Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 The simple fact he'd be here at the club would make us more attractive to potential players coming in and maybe even big money investors. I think there's more positives than negatives, even if they're not all pitch related.
Nick Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 The simple fact he'd be here at the club would make us more attractive to potential players coming in and maybe even big money investors. I think there's more positives than negatives, even if they're not all pitch related. Yeah, I couldn't possibly say that this is a fantastic idea unless he aces a medical. The man can do stuff with a football. Now Mandaric wants to go up (we may be sat around wondering if going up this season would benefit the club long term etc, but Mandaric wants the Premiership.) Now, how does the saying go? If you're close come January to auto or playoff, it's worth spending and having a punt? We are 3 points off the top. It's likely to not be Nigel's idea. Now imagine your Nigel. It's Thursday night and your looking down your formation options and deciding on the team sheet for Saturday. You want to stick in the new blood, you want to go for pace but without a creative midfielder you are relying on the ball hitting Howards head and being knocked towards a little fella..... Or you can stick Edgar Davids next to Wellens and maybe just give Oakley a break for a week or two...... hmm - that's a no brainer isn't it? Well to be fair if we get 6 months out of a creative midfielder like Davids and are competitive on the back of it then why not. Plus if by some miracle we get to the Prem, Davids is our Geovanni.... look come sign for us, we have some european quality...... Mandaric can lose out as if Davids didn't play much fans would call Mandaric an arse. But many do already. If Dj's worth 25K a week, rightly or wrongly, Davids' may be worth a 6 month punt. The club sells lots of shirts and tickets (lettering prices go up to £3 a letter) I don't mind hugely about his age if he can prove his fitness - but we've been here before and if talks have been going on for a few weeks then surely *prays* that fitness would have been top of the agenda...... Edgar Davids living in Leicestershire? Surely not. Would make saturday's very interesting for a bit though. Sign him up, whatever happens, the entertainment value alone would be worth it N.
Finnegan Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 36 year old former star who hasn't played for a bit.......................sounds like an A-League signing. Except the A-League version of a "former star" is some premiership journeyman that was never very skillful and is now a broken down injury wreck that couldn't get a contract with Rugby Town. At least we have the good grace to call a Champions League winning, three times Serie A winning, iconic, international megastar a "former star."
Jordan Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 Milan Mandaric: "You know, Lee, we're close, but I think we're missing just one thing in order to win promotion. You know what this team needs? A little more class. Yes, that's all this team needs, and then we're set for the Premiership. We need someone, like, umm, that black guy with the funny glasses from those television adverts." Lee Hoos: "You mean Edgar Davids, sir?" Milan: "Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's the one, I think." Lee: "Sir, I don't think it's very appropriate for you to describe Mr. Davids as a 'black guy with funny glasses.' It's 2009, and..." Milan: "Oh, please, let's just cut to the chase. I wanna make a bid for this David Edgars fellow. Where's he playing?" Lee: "Sir, he's not playing anywhere; he's been re..." Milan: "Well, what are we waiting for? Quick, someone get a contract ready. Get him on the phone. Tell him we'll give him, err, umm, something like 20,000 a week."
shen Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 Why would NP/Milan confirm the rumours at this point? Surely it's just a media stunt to get some attention...
Jordan Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 I seem to remember Portsmouth fans warning us when Milan's takeover of LCFC was imminent that the man has a tendency to 1) run his mouth and talk big about potential signings/transfers only to inadvertently sabotage his club's efforts to bring in talent or 2) (if the signing is achieved) leave the club and the player unable to match the ridiculous hype created by all that talk.
Koke Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 Except the A-League version of a "former star" is some premiership journeyman that was never very skillful and is now a broken down injury wreck that couldn't get a contract with Rugby Town. Jordan Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 From the Daily Mail: That contract is believed to include a fee for the player's image rights and talks between the parties are well advanced. OK, Edgar, if I may ... My heart says you should do this because it would be awesome/hilarious for my belovèd Leicester City to have you, Edgar fooking Davids, as an actual player on their squad (whether you can hack it or not). My head, however, just read that tidbit from the Mail and is encouraging you to back out on this deal ASAP. No ifs, ands or buts--just end negotiations. Do you really want the same geniuses that brought you Fosse Gold, One Team One Dream and an anthropomorphic floor tile on a shirt to manage your marketability?
FallOfFingolfin Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 Would this be something like Clough and Taylor signing Mackay?
Raj Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 Didnt realise he hasnt even played for a year. Time for us to be abit realistic now,and just forget about it.
Raj Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 Not signed yet then? No But Zidane and Figo have!!!
Raj Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 My mates Dad's brother's son is a painter and decorator and he painted a house in Oadby(think the one Lee Chapman was supposed to have bought many years ago when he nearly moved to City!) and apparently Figo picked the paint colours from the Dulux Colour charts.....
suffolk fox Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 I for one am concerned re this proposed transfer. Edgar Davids admittedly on his day was a brilliant player especially for the Dutch footy team. However, he is now aged 36years old his best playing days are behind him and my Spurs supporting mate told me his legs had gone when he was at Spurs? How much influence has Mandaric had in this? I would say all of it! Worryingly, Middlesborough are after a new manager and Pearsons name is on their hit list( albeit Strachan is beleived to be the 1st choice). As other posts have mentioned Pearson now has a dilemma when it comes to picking the team if Davids does sign? Does he go for our established midfield as it is now, and they haven't done too bad a job or does he drop King or Wellens for Davids? Who would expect to play every week if he were to sign, due to his imaging rights and sponsorship etc. Let's not forget he hasn't played in over a year and will be woefully short of match practice etc etc. I for one pray this doesn't happen we signed Dickov, Freund, at the ages of 35 and 36 and look where that got us. No player is ever bigger than one club, look what Hasselbank did at Cardiff. Was a nightmare in the dressing room and had a very bad attitude! The only think I can think of is our next sponsors are going to be Specsavers and with Davids at the helm Mandaric can see a possible source of income?
The Doctor Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 has no-one considered the fact that this news was released just after southgate was sacked. MM's not bringing him in as a player, he's going to be co-manager with chris powell.

Couldn't agree more. Small town thinking gets small town results. Milan - Go for it! (provided he's fit of course!)
