samjohnson Posted 29 October 2009 Posted 29 October 2009 Leicester City striker Martyn Waghorn says he would be interested in extending his loan stay beyond January.Waghorn joined on a short-term deal from Sunderland in the summer and has impressed, scoring three crucial goals to help the Foxes into a play-off spot. He told BBC Radio Leicester: "I'm here until January and I think both clubs might be trying to extend it. "I'd like to keep learning my trade at a side like this. I'll just keep doing what's needed and take it from there." Waghorn has been mainly used as a substitute this season but started against Reading on Monday and scored the only goal of the game. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ity/8332082.stm
Alf Bentley Posted 29 October 2009 Posted 29 October 2009 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ity/8332082.stm According to Wikipedia, he signed a 2.5-year deal with Sunderland in Feb. 2008. If that is accurate, his contract probably runs out in the summer....so it'll be interesting to see if he signs a new one. He's not played many games for them, and with the likes of Bent and Jones up front, I can't see him getting many starts for them any time soon... I wonder if it could turn into a Hobbs-type situation, extended loan, cut-price summer deal... Not the finished article, but has definite potential.

Ozwin Posted 29 October 2009 Posted 29 October 2009 He's got a few things to learn but if we manage to get him on a perminant I think we have the manager to turn him into a quality player.
Flynny Posted 29 October 2009 Posted 29 October 2009 Realistically, we've heard a lot about him being highly rated by Sunderland, and we'd probably only be able to get him permanently if we went up. On the other hand, if we went up, we'd be looking for someone a bit more proven. Don't see it happening.

He's basically hoping for an outbreak of swine flu aound Wearside to get a starting role at the moment, and if he's enjoying himself here as much as he appears to be, it wouldn't be the biggest surprise ever to see him 'do a Hobbs.' If we did go up, I'd have no problems with us signing him as I've said for a while now that he'll be a very good Premiership striker within 2-3 years.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 29 October 2009 Posted 29 October 2009 He has done well here, love him to stay longer. He adds something new up front for us.

I can see a stuation where if we dont go up Fryatt gets sold to someone like WBA... or one of the promoted teams. If he is then offered regular football .. its a possibility
Salieri Posted 29 October 2009 Posted 29 October 2009 It looked for a long time that we wouldn't have any chance of getting Hobbs from Liverpool last season and we did. Hopefully Sunderland will snap up another striker to push Waggy further down the list. Would be a fantastic signing.
Ozwin Posted 29 October 2009 Posted 29 October 2009 He's as close to a wonderkid as we're ever going to get. He's definately got the ability and the potential.
Dames Posted 29 October 2009 Posted 29 October 2009 As long as Milan isn't a tightwad then there is a very realistic chance waggy will be here for a while yet.
TrickyTrev Posted 29 October 2009 Posted 29 October 2009 I think he still has a lot to learn, which is a good thing for his future career because we are yet to see the best of him. Clearly a talented boy but sometimes he runs in straight lines and fails to cause the defenders trouble with his movement, actually think he could learn a thing or two from Matty in that regard. When he does get the ball however, he is already a real handful.
Lichfieldfox. Posted 29 October 2009 Posted 29 October 2009 Get martin Fulop too!!!!! The Sunderland buy one Martin get one free (BOMGOF) offer - MILAN SORT IT OUT
dogadug Posted 29 October 2009 Posted 29 October 2009 Get martin Fulop too!!!!! we don't need Fulop - we've got Weale
Smiffy Posted 29 October 2009 Posted 29 October 2009 The Sunderland buy one Martin get one free (BOMGOF) offer - MILAN SORT IT OUT Or even Martyn's...or Marton's
Joe. Posted 30 October 2009 Posted 30 October 2009 Pleased about this, big fan of his. Offers us something very different up front that none of our other forwards can, and is arguably as good as Fryatt for me. His pace is a massive help to us.
Dames Posted 30 October 2009 Posted 30 October 2009 Liking him more and more, loved the way he celebrated our goals tonight. Sign him up Nigel.
Corky Posted 30 October 2009 Posted 30 October 2009 I hope it will be extended, he's impressed me a lot in the last month or so.
Guest Bilo Posted 30 October 2009 Posted 30 October 2009 The vigour with which he celebrated his goal at Cov and Fryatt's at QPR last night and his sheer will shown whenever he comes onto the pitch shows me the lad loves being here. Extend his loan Milan. Maybe to about four or five years eh?
Wilkesy Posted 30 October 2009 Posted 30 October 2009 Would definately love to see him here for at least the rest of the season. He has shown great maturity for his age and looks like he could provide us with the all round package. Loved the strength that he showed when holding off the QPR defenders tonight and he also had them worried with his pace and movement. Keep it up Waggy!
kev_safc_ftm Posted 31 October 2009 Posted 31 October 2009 Hi, Sunderland fan in peace. New to the board so feel free to abuse as much as you want. Waghorn appears to be enjoying it at Leicester, however, he wants to make it at Sunderland and Bruce rates him highly. At the minute, a season long loan is beneficial to all parties. Gives us a chance to get deadwood like Daryl Murphy and Healy off the books prior to the summer window. Do you want Murphy instead? Hes fooking garbage. I'll drive him down personally .... Waghorn signed a long-term contract at the start of last season, so there's no chance of a bosman deal (don't believe owt thats on wiki). Interesting fact: He lives in the same town as me and is a Man Utd fan.
CKB Posted 31 October 2009 Posted 31 October 2009 I hope it will be extended, he's impressed me a lot in the last month or so. Agreed!
