Joe Mattock Reception Saturday

How do you guys feel his reception will be on Saturday?

I expect (and hope) a hostile one for him and also think that getting on his back will force him in to mistakes because he doesn't seem mentally that strong. I do not usually give a toss about ex players but if anyone deserves abuse on their return it is him.

He will definately get some stick which is expected, but i hope our fans focus more on getting behind our boys and creating a good atmosphere

I think we should be the bigger men here and give him nothing, ignore him. We are doing a million times better without him. I feel indifferent to him.

Agreed, he's a meaningless entity, not worth the effort!!

Ideally we wouldn't give a fuck but we all know that won't happen. He'll get booed, nothing crazy, I don't think the Walkers has the ability to generate a properly hostile atmosphere.

Like others have said though I'd much prefer all that energy to be concentrated on supporting the team, not wasted on an average player who we're not missing in the slightest.

I agree, maybe a big "Who?" when his name's called out, but booing him throughout the game will probably help motivate him more.

I'm not sure why there is so much hostility towards him. He wasn't getting played last season, he wanted a move and we got 2 million, it's football it happens. Of course when a player signs for a new club he is going to say they are great and it's a step up.

I also don't blame him for wanting to leave after we got relegated, I wouldn't blame anyone for wanting to walk away from the horror show we had become, but he ended up staying and played as well as he could for us, the truth is that wasn't good enough last season and he wouldn't have been good enough this season.

Finally, with our record of developing younger players with talent, he is probably better off elsewhere. I've seen lots of talented looking players come through in to the first team and not fulfil their potential and disappear into obscurity, only Heskey, and maybe Joachim have made it through the ranks.

:appl: Finally bit of sanity!

I think it's just the way he did it that wound people up, he thought he was something special - he's not.

He handed in a transfer request while away with the U21's and refused to come back

Joe Mattock is set for Leicester City backlash

Wednesday, November 04, 2009, 08:00

Former Leicester City favourite Joe Mattock is likely to receive a backlash from the fans who once sang his name.

The 19-year-old left-back returns to the Walkers Stadium with his new club West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

Mattock, who came through the ranks at City, angered the Blue Army when he handed in a transfer request and then joined Championship rivals West Brom in August in a deal believed to be potentially worth nearly £2million.

He then incensed the City supporters when he was quoted as saying he felt Albion were better placed to fulfil his ambitions and that he had felt he had done enough at City.

As a result, Lance Tomlyn of the Independent Supporters Association believes City fans will love to beat Albion on Saturday solely because of Mattock's remarks.

"I think it all comes down to what he said about wanting to move to a bigger club," said Tomlyn.

"It was ill-advised and he should have been told not to say that.

"What upset me was when he said he had done his shift for the club. He had only been in the first team for a couple of seasons!

"Fans don't like it when players say it is their dream come true to play for the club and then leave six months later.

"They will want the win on Saturday for that reason, not just because it will see City jump above Albion."

Cliff Ginnetta, chairman of the Leicester City Supporters Club, is expecting Mattock, right, to receive a frosty reception if he plays on Saturday but hopes City supporters will be fair to the teenager from Eyres Monsell.

"There may be a backlash from the terraces over the way he left and what he said," said Ginnetta, who has known Mattock since he was a youngster coming through the ranks at City.

"He is a young lad and sometimes young players say things they shouldn't, but he has to face the consequences.

"I hope the fans are fair to him because he is home-grown and one of their own. I think people forget how young he is."

Matt Davis, spokesman for the Foxes Trust, said many fans believe Mattock was misguided in his belief that leaving City was good for his career.

"There is no real difference between us and West Brom," he said. "They are a yo-yo club and the only difference is they have the parachute payments at the moment which allow them a bigger squad.

"I think winning the game would show that he hasn't necessarily made the right decision."

Don't really care about him to be fair.

The lad is young, he went because he is ambitious, and saw WBA as a better prospect than us at the time. Shouldn't have said what he did, but he wasn't gonna roll up at WBA and say 'well Leicester are the bigger club by a mile, but I just felt like joining this for a laugh, i'll be gone in a season when this team is shit'

I will understand those who boo him, but I won't, I can just imagine the smirk on his face when he hears the boos, and that's what makes me not want to give him stick.

Totally agree. Berner has been a million times better than he was.

Silence would be the best response imo. He is a young man, but saying what he did a kid of 12 would have known was a bad idea.

When the hell have we ever sang his name?

Thats what I was trying to recall lol

Massive indifference from me too

I think "Mattock, What's the score - Mattock, Mattock What's the Score?" after we slot in our 3rd will suffice...

'1 - 0 , to the smaller club...'

Worked well at Reading

Anyone else think that Mattock dug himself into a corner thinking that either Villa or West Ham were going to come in for him? I think fans would understand if he engineered a move a way to either of those two, but just can't understand why he would leave to go to West Brom. Maybe I'm giving some of our fans too much credit, I reckon some of the Leicester born boys get more stick just because they are not as big fans as the supporters. Just because if any of us were professional footballers we'd try and do a Walshy and stay at the same club for 15 years doesn't mean that everyone else is obligated to do so.

I thought he was rather poor when he played for us, and tbh I'd forgotten all about the wee buggar. Certainly won't get any applause from me, but I'd rather ignore him and get behind the team.

'One Bruno Berner' would go down well with me.

Agreed

Nope, I think it's pretty obvious the deal was already done to join West Brom before he handed in the transfer request he obviously thought it was a better option and it probably still is at this moment in time. It was no secret they had been after him all summer so it wasn't really a surprise.

I agree with your other point though at the end of the day it's a job for a footballer if they get a better offer then they will probably take it like me or you would.

I personally think the way he handed in his transfer request was a bit underhand
