Why is it a joke :dunno:

It's always been like this.

This is football snobbery at it's finest

It may have always been like it, but that doesn't mean I necessarily agree with it. The seeding system is a farce - the supposed best 8 teams put into seperate groups to avoid each other, when South Africa are clearly nowhere near this kind of standard.

I don't particularly agree with the better sides avoiding each other automatically by the way, just that South Africa should not be among the top seeds for this competition. They didn't even have to qualify for it (which as host nation is fair enough).

I don't really see any major issue with the hosts being top seeds to be honest.

The best teams should still win regardless - if you look at the best of the unseeded teams, France, Portugal, maybe the Ivory Coast and Ghana and at a stretch the USA, Uruguay and Mexico, none of them really look like world beaters.

France and Portugal would be the most likely to get an extra place in the seedings but both struggled to qualify and I don't really think any team who lumbered in through the Play Offs should get a seeding. There'd certainly likely have been uproar if France had been seeded, hah.

Besides, WC2002 saw hosts Japan and South Korea do justice to their seedings by walking their groups and in the case of South Korea (somewhat controversially, I admit) reaching the semis. While France, Argentina, Portugal and Croatia all bowed out with their tails between their legs.

As Jehst says, football snobbery really.

Won't happen unless Toure plays right midfield, maybe a good thing for Toure.

Amen, just because Torres has done it twice to Vidic it doesnt mean Messi will, Torres is alot stronger and this is something Vidic doesnt like, Argentina wouldnt be able to lump the ball up to Messi and him do Vidic like that and I doubt Vidic would let himself get sucked out of position to go after Messi. So comparing them really is pointless.

Spain are the only team I fear going into the World Cup - there are no other teams that I think would beat with our best eleven out, people saying Brazil completely outclassed us, yeah they did but we missed alot of players. France, Portugal, Germany, Itlay, Holland, Serbia, Argentina and Ivory Coast I fancy us to beat any of them, with our best eleven out.

Liverpool aren't in the World Cup, y'know >_<

But on the point of Brazil, you conveniently forget that they weren't at full strength either. If you've seen Brazil at all apart from that game against England, you'd have good reason to fear them...

Seriously. In full flow they are absolutely irresistable. Prone to drift off a little at times but when they're all switched on they're a creative force that dominates. I really hope a Spain - Brazil final is possible.

Germany and Spain were both seeded in 2002 and 2006 respectively, despite only qualifying through the playoffs. France should've been seeded according to FIFAs own seeding system. FIFA have gerrymandered this very well indeed...

Germany were hosts in 2006 so automatically qualified

In before someone points out "Wales still wouldn't qualify."

<_<

Scotland probably wouldn't qualify if you had 32 teams in the Euros.

Seeding is bullsh*t, just there to ensure the money flows.

Effectivley it is a form of match (or at least competition) fixing.

All teams in one pot and start drawing, no fixes, no protection, if your good enough you will win the cup.

So I should just stick money on an England - Spain final with Spain going on to win it and hope the England squad stays fully fit? :P

Yeah mate, hopefully pays you some big returns.

I agree, it would be much more interesting for me if the competition was run this way. The draw itself would certainly be more exciting.

Draw today at 5pm UK time.

Programme starts at 5.15 on BBC 2 & 5.00 on Sky Sports News.

How long does the draw take? I seem to remember it going on for quite a while last time

Actually it shouldn't take that long.

They introduce all the ex-players who will draw the balls, but the 2006 one took around 10 minutes from first ball to last ball (I was watching my DVD of the 2006 draw last week  )

If anyone is interested, the draw is supposed (not supposed) to take place at 5:45pm GMT, so if you want to skip the pre-amble, that's the time to get in.

I cannot fooking wait, just hours to go... I think I need a nappy.

DVD of the 2006 draw?!! I never imagined there would be a demand for such things! :D

Self made DVD :D, it was a VHS recorded by my very self, but I transferred it onto DVD.... it's tucked away in my collection of EVERY world cup 2006 game on a DVD, plus all the BBC highlights shows

(i'm so cool)
