shen Posted 2 December 2009 Posted 2 December 2009 SA? Do the hosts always get a top seeding? What a joke. They have for the past few tournaments, yes. I wonder when a (non-hosting) African or Asian team will ever get seeded in the first pot...
LCFC-ARAB Posted 2 December 2009 Posted 2 December 2009 I'd be happy with that! Don't underestimate the fennecs!!
purpleronnie Posted 2 December 2009 Posted 2 December 2009 Top Seeds confirmed!Spain - Brazil - England - Netherlands - Germany - Argentina - South Africa - Italy Means we can get Portugal or France in our group. France please.
Bryn Posted 2 December 2009 Posted 2 December 2009 I reckon the optimum draw for us is one tougher team and two easier teams to be honest, you want the group stage to have some kind of challenge plus it puts another tough team out of your draw when you quality for the knockout round. Algeria, New Zealand and a chance to destroy the Portuguese or the French please.
Sly Posted 2 December 2009 Posted 2 December 2009 Could we get a group of death? England, Mexico, Ivory Coast and Portugal ... that'd be a nightmare.
Bryn Posted 2 December 2009 Posted 2 December 2009 Could we get a group of death? France/Portugal, Ivory Coast and the USA could be rough.
TrickyTrev Posted 2 December 2009 Posted 2 December 2009 Which teams would constitute a group of death and which a group of life? From the UEFA- Death- Portugal and France (Although I wouldn't mid drawing the French) Life- Slovakia and Switzerland? CONMEBOL/CAF Death- Ivory Coast and Chile Life- Algeria and Nigeria CONCACAF/ASIA/OCEANIA Death- Mexico and the US Life- North Korea and New Zealand Hardest group- Portugal, Ivory Coast and Mexico Easiest group- Slovakia, Algeria, New Zealand I'd still quite like to draw the Aussies though, just for banters sake.
purpleronnie Posted 2 December 2009 Posted 2 December 2009 I dont want the Yanks, Slovakia, Algeria, NZ please.
The Doctor Posted 2 December 2009 Posted 2 December 2009 A lot of the seeding is done to ensure a regional spread in each of the groups so that for instance that all of the south American teams are drawn in the same group meaning only 1 or maybe 2 could go on to the next stage. Also who wants Japan against Algeria in the final?Apart from Japanese and Algerians. i'd love that, but i'd love North Korea v USA in the final even more. That would never happen because they aren't anywhere near the best teams, seeding is bollocks in any tournament and panders to sponsors, advertisers and fans who only want to see the 'big' teams. What would be wrong with a group of all europeans or a weak group if it was drawn fairly? ensures that at least 2 europeans or 2 weak teams will get through and as you've said, they'll pander to the sponsors and advertisers who will not want 2 weak teams through because less people will watch that match meaning the sponsors/advertisers miss out on revenue. As for the guarenteed places for 2 from the same area i'd say thats just to avoid being accused of favouritism.
Finnegan Posted 2 December 2009 Posted 2 December 2009 The drama on this forum if England draw Serbia.
TrickyTrev Posted 2 December 2009 Posted 2 December 2009 The drama on this forum if England draw Serbia. True dat. Don't want it to happen however, I think Serbia are the 2nd most dangerous team in the UEFA pool behind Portugal.
Finnegan Posted 2 December 2009 Posted 2 December 2009 True dat. Don't want it to happen however, I think Serbia are the 2nd most dangerous team in the UEFA pool behind Portugal. Wouldn't really be writing off France, regardless of how unspectacular their qualifcation was.
Jonezy Posted 2 December 2009 Posted 2 December 2009 I feel the buzz now... Germany, North Korea and Uruguay for Denmark please. And no Spain until a potential final. Look out for Chile - They play all out attack Barcelona style, and are good at it.
Donut Posted 2 December 2009 Posted 2 December 2009 It's nearly that time again, December 4th, Friday evening, make a date with your TVThe World Cup draw for the group stage, the single most drawn out process in the entire globe will take place. But I don't care that a 10 minute draw takes about 2 hours, the whole thing makes me so excited it's untrue. That moment when you go OH MY WORD at the draw, and who we've got. I really, really can't wait, and it's the night before Forest too, so it's a hell of a weekend. World Cup 2010 draw... December 4th What do you think about the seedings Ian? Im thinking maybe for England, a group of England, New Zealand Or North Korea, Slovakia and Algeria would be pretty nice But then again, a group of England, Serbia Or Portugal, South Korea or Mexico and Ivory Coast may be a bit of a bitch what do you reckon?
Filbert_Ross Posted 2 December 2009 Posted 2 December 2009 i argued with my mates the other day that the FA cup 3rd round draw is more exciting than the world cup draw. the world cup draw is a right drawn out bore fest i think.

Ford Super Sunday Posted 2 December 2009 Author Posted 2 December 2009 That's such a non-debate it's unreal. FA Cup draws > Everything. This is true, when I watch the countless draws like the Champions League and that, they don't compare. I was shaking and getting really nervous on Sunday, overreaction 99% of you will say... but that buzz being able to get ANYONE is brilliant. The only reason I am e-jizzing over this draw is that it is once every four years, and it'll be interesting to see who we get. While it won't be as gripping or agonising as the FA Cup draw, it still has something special aboot it.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 2 December 2009 Posted 2 December 2009 Sweden aren't even in the fucking thing, but we'll still end up drawing them.
Finnegan Posted 2 December 2009 Posted 2 December 2009 Sweden aren't even in the fucking thing, but we'll still end up drawing them.
The Doctor Posted 2 December 2009 Posted 2 December 2009 That's such a non-debate it's unreal. FA Cup draws > Everything. good to see someone has their priorities right.
Father Ted Posted 2 December 2009 Posted 2 December 2009 Damn right about the drama if we draw England! I'd fancy our chances aswell!
The Doctor Posted 2 December 2009 Posted 2 December 2009 Damn right about the drama if we draw England!I'd fancy our chances aswell! It'd be the first and last time i'd care for serbia even the tinest bit (though i do hope you play argentina again).
Father Ted Posted 2 December 2009 Posted 2 December 2009 It'd be the first and last time i'd care for serbia even the tinest bit (though i do hope you play argentina again). Only this time we'd beat Argentina. Messi is no match for Vidic.
