Fox92 Posted 27 November 2009 Posted 27 November 2009 My first visit to the sensational City Ground in Nottingham was the 1-1 draw where I remember sitting below the Nottingham Forest fans. It was Gareth Williams' return to The City Ground, where he was captain (I think) before his £500,000 move to Leicester, and he was getting battered by the Forest fans. I think that Impey and Alan Rodgers also played in that match - or was that against someone else? I can't really remember the match, obviousley as it was years ago now, but Michael Dawson scored for Forest before a dramatic late goal from David Connolly - "Keown with the free kick (I think), Dublin heads it down, Connolly!" - I remember the Forest fans that were above us, launching two pence pieces at the Leicester fans. _________ However, my favourite visit to the City Ground was my third visit. The Coca-Cola cup clash. Before the first match, the one where Clive Clarke had a heart attack, we got to The City Ground and our seats didn't even exist! The steward was well confuzed and they had to put us anywhere! Anyway, it wasn't that match I loved, it was the replay. We gave Forest a goal and then Alan Sheehan scored the wonderful free kick. I think it was Nathan Tyson that made it 2-1 before two quick goals from Stearman and Stephen Clemence - Matt Fryatt did brilliantly for those two goals. It ended 3-2. Great game. I think it went something like "Fryatt to de Vries, de Vries turns, ohh he could have shot there, gives it Clemmmmmeeeennnceeee!" _________ It's a shame that Leicester and Nottingham Forest haven't met much more times in recent years, obviousley the main cause of this was being in different divisions. Although Forest are our rivals, I do like them and always want to see them doing well - as long as their below Leicester They have a good side this year, the likes of Paul McKenna, Dexter Blackstock and Chris Gunter. And with Leicester doing quite well so far, lets hope that next week's clash is bloody awesome! Can't wait really, then again, can't wait for tomorow either! ________ You can include mine if you want to!
Uncle Albert Posted 27 November 2009 Posted 27 November 2009 The Carling Cup game will always be my favourite, the whole day was class. In Notts County's bar before, when the Police came in and everyone gave them shit great times. The escort to the game, first time in an escort aswell, class. The game was class, Sheehan's goal was brilliant got everyone going in the crowd, seen some fans getting thrown out from our end because of the goal, then the beautiful man Stearman getting an equaliser and then Clem winning it. Awesome.

C.J Posted 27 November 2009 Posted 27 November 2009 That last cup game was epic, was right behind Sheehans free-kick. I just knew the nanosecond it left his boot it was in peech. My best memory of forest is the perspex screens between you and the concourse staff. Like going to a bank, but not as nicer surroundings.
MauriceJobson Posted 28 November 2009 Posted 28 November 2009 First trip to the City Ground. 96/97. One of my first away games. Remember Steve Walsh hitting the inside of the post from about 30 yards and not much else.
Karljohn Posted 28 November 2009 Posted 28 November 2009 I was at that match and all I can remember is standing on the terrace next to the Forest fans and spit was flying both ways between us and Forest terrace. A copper grabbed me round the throat (I didn't spit so can't remember why he grabbed me) and snapped my gold belcher chain that cost £19.99. I was wounded.Did we play Notts County in the semis first? That was a great away night even though it was peeing down and they had no roof, great away terrace they had and we filled it. Yes, open terrace, seem to remember Paul Fitzpatrick scoring and I think Tommy Wright, won it 2-1.

I remember when Rodgers came to the city ground with you lot and at that game some bright spark decided to hand out free boost bars to everyone. Now, a tubby ex-player and free choccy bars made for a dangerous combination because poor ol' Alan was pelted with them whenever he was in front of the A-block. Poor behaviour I know but I, to my shame, found it a little too funny.

I've never actually been to a forest away match before. any one care explaining what their grounds like?
purpleronnie Posted 28 November 2009 Posted 28 November 2009 Yes, open terrace, seem to remember Paul Fitzpatrick scoring and I think Tommy Wright, won it 2-1. I was there, I may be wrong but didn't it piss it down all night?
PAULCFC Posted 28 November 2009 Posted 28 November 2009 I was there, I may be wrong but didn't it piss it down all night? Yes it did.....got home soaked from that.Remember getting the football special from London road for it too.

mikey54 Posted 29 November 2009 Posted 29 November 2009 I seem to remember an abandoned game - 1968? I'mm sure we went 1-0 up through Frank Large. I was a young kid at the time and was taken to the game by a couple of Forest supporters. It started snowing soon after the game started and beore long, the pitch was unplayable
Ultra Posted 29 November 2009 Posted 29 November 2009 I seem to remember an abandoned game - 1968? I'mm sure we went 1-0 up through Frank Large. I was a young kid at the time and was taken to the game by a couple of Forest supporters. It started snowing soon after the game started and beore long, the pitch was unplayable Yeah - it was 67-68. I've been to the City Ground for City matches on FOURTEEN occasions. The only time I've seen us win there was the play-off semi against Pompey. Forest proclaim indifference to us and claim Derby are their main rivals. But I've witnessed enough rucks over the years at their place to know that this is not the case. Spicy as Saturday's clash will be, the real battle this season will come on 16th December when the FA announces its list of World Cup bid cities. That decision will have as much bearing on the clubs' long-term futures as results on the field and the consequent league placings.
intotheforest Posted 29 November 2009 Posted 29 November 2009 The last meeting between us in the Carling Cup was a cracking game; even though we were happy to balls it up. Smith scored perhaps the best goal ever in the opening minute. Tore your defence a new a'hole as he galloped through and slotted it home After that it was a good football contest. Tyson scored an absolute peach for us and I'll never forget our "We're going to Wembley" chants. 3 mins left and we make an absolute mess of it. Clemence scored a cracker from the edge of the area. Remember being right next to the Leicester fans and just starring at them as I left when they were all singing they were going to Wembley That chants a blooming curse for this club; anyone remember our play off game at home to Yeovil?

I couldn't actually give a monkeys and If we're going to move I'd rather we took our time over it and got a stadium with some character, and speaking to a lot of foxes I get the impression something uniquely Leicester would've been infinitely preferable to a bowl. As for the indifference, there are a lot of seats left in the forest stands which probably tells it's own story. I live in Loughborough so it's a little different for me.

CJ Hows it going matey Remember blowing a 2 goal lead drawing 2-2 during Adam's era Good win in carling cup too, especially after giving them a goal (and seeing as in the game that was abandoned we were shite)
Fez of Mahrez Posted 30 November 2009 Author Posted 30 November 2009 Have picked three out, one of which was PM'd to me. Hoping they will be used tomorrow, Wednesday and Friday. Thanks for all your responses. If anyone ever has any ideas for pieces, please let me know. I am always on the lookout for things to write about. Cheers. PS - have just written this for Bentley's Roof which might be interesting, particularly for younger fans: http://www.bentleysroof.co.uk/the-summer-o...he-city-ground/
Simi Posted 30 November 2009 Posted 30 November 2009 Obiously the 3-2 stands out. What a night it was, along with the first match which ended sourly. At 2-1 down we having the piss taken out of us left right and centre by the Forest fans. But then Stearman scraped in the equalsier and I was ready for extra time, as were most people. Clemence had other ideas though and I can remember standing in a similar silence to that we had when DJ's header was looping in at Chelsea. It seemed everyone was thinking "Has Steven Clemence really just gone and made it 3-2 in the last minute against Forest?" When the realisation was that "Yes he ****ing had!" I can just remember everyone around me falling on top of each other and going absolutely bonkers. What a night it was, I don't expect Saturday to be an open game at all. However, if it finishes anything like that last game in our favour it will be a fooking good day!
