£30 Tesco club card price reduced from £43

Very nice.

Not quite as class as the Glenlivet IMO but very close.

Had never liked the taste of it, but perhaps will do when am 45+..

I never liked the taste until I realised I'd only really drank the cheap blended stuff in the past.

Being introduced to single malts was a whole different ball game. Someone once told me to add three drops of water and I've always stuck with that.

Maybe it does become an acquired taste with age but I notice now how just a small sip 'lasts' a while and I enjoy the whole experience of the smell and a nice heavy glass too.

I'm still far from being an expert like some on here but the more I'm exploring decent whisky, the more I'm enjoying it.

Is there a particular Irish Whiskey that you'd recommend?

Redbreast is such a great brand, never had one I didn't like.

There is little better value in the whisky world than Bunnahabhain 12 for my money.

Isle of Skye 8 (blend) is also excellent for the price.

As an aside and not whisky, of course, I've just got this in.  Never tried Rhum Agricole before.  Something towards a Bourbon in character.  Pretty nice.

Is that not a brandy?

Neh it's not.

It's Rhum Agricole which is only 'allowed' to be produced in what was the French Caribbean Islands.  So it has been awarded the French spirit designation, commonly seen on Brandy.  It's made from fresh squeezed sugar cane rather than molasses.

This is all knowledge I've acquired in the last week since I ordered it online, totally new to me!

I'm really keen to try this but can't find it for less than £45

I'll have to stick to whatever equivalent Tesco have on Clubcard offer or Amazon Prime reduced down to £30 (Glenmorangie 12 atm)

45 is basically bargain basement for decent whisky these days unless you are going supermarket, which is fine - some decent stuff, but it's limiting in choice.

Prices over the last decade have become ridiculous.

Should be excellent, was up in Moray last year and did a couple.  Just make sure you aren't driving because they aren't tight with the drams in those distilleries are they

I'm unsure where to go on my Whisky journey. So at home I've just been drinking your typical supermarket blended whisky's which I drink with coke. But earlier in the month we visited Loch Ness and I sampled some of the Highland single malts which felt wrong to have with a mixer so I'd have it neat which was really nice but I can't imagine sitting at home doing that .

Is it a proper faux pas to have a mixer with Whisky? And if I do use a mixer is it better to just stick with the Famous Grouse types?

Also are there any good mixer recommendations other than Coke?

I don't have a BBC account. What was the gist?

I'd recommend one. Takes a minute or two to set up.

'Mark Steele's in Town' toured the Bushmills distillery in Coleraine and someone asked about putting ice in single malt whisky.

It's always been a bugbear of mine that most distilleries are out of town and the drink/drive limit is practically zero. Highland Park is in Kirkwall (but conversely remote by being on Orkney) and Ben Nevis is on the outskirts of Fort William.

Islay is probably the most convenient with several distilleries on the island, plus a very short ferry crossing to the next island Jura and their you will discover my favourite Jura Single Malt Bourbon Cask

Picked up a bottle of English single malt which I've yet to try along with probably about 4 others that've gone unopened.

Bought two litres of Chivas Regal 12yr in the duty free the other day and I can drink it my (honestly) my preferred way - with Pepsi Max, and not feel bad pissing away a nice single malt.

If anyone's near the Dartmoor Distillery, Bovey Tracey, Devon any time this year, their tasting session is great value 3 whiskies and 1 gin to try all at least double measures and a voucher for the bar for a free pint (I had a beautiful local 6% cider)

All for 20 quid, beautiful room and setting too

My Dad has warned me about the peaty taste of Laphroaig but we’re drinking it tonight anyway :)

I think he’s trying to manage my expectations but if I don’t like it either, he’ll just use it as an expensive mixer with ginger ale.

Sounds a bit marmite but hope I love it.

I’ll add Islay Mist to the list!!

Laphroaig is a beast, which I dare not drink because I have mental dreams on it.

Perfect way to round off a Sunday out in the fields with the dog. Decent stout followed by a Laphroaig 10...

My wife got me some a Filey Bay single malt recently. Ex bourbon cask aged.  Was it nice?  Yes it was. Is there stuff out there for £50 that's better? Yes there is.

Be interested to know what you made of this one once you've tried it as I haven't come across it.
