Manwell Pablo Posted 17 September 2009 Posted 17 September 2009 Be suprised if he goes down on three counts of ABH with no previous. Espeically if he pleads guilty. Would be nice though. Just to add my opinion, whether he is an idiot for going out in Leicester or not (which he is) I struggle to see how being goaded and harrased is an excuse for hitting anyone never mind women. Walk away it's that simple. Disclamimer for DavieG Assuming he did it of course which he may not have

Disclamimer for DavieG Assuming he did it of course which he may not have I'll second that But I guess some people are immature at any age and put them in a position of money with a public face and they aren't capable of walking away there's plenty of similar incidences - if that was the case

Could be looking at custodial.
Ultra Posted 17 September 2009 Posted 17 September 2009 Unless he gets Steven Gerrard's lawyer. The trial is set for the week after we play West Brom. Not great timing..
Guest Posted 18 September 2009 Posted 18 September 2009 Unless he gets Steven Gerrard's lawyer. The trial is set for the week after we play West Brom. Not great timing.. That won't be the trial date, it'll just be a "plea and case management hearing". The only thing we'll find out is if he's admitting it or not. Just to expand, if he pleads guilty in that hearing, the court will set a date for sentencing (he will want pre-sentencing reports etc). If he pleads not guilty, they will set the date for the trial then.
Anish Posted 18 September 2009 Posted 18 September 2009 Unless he gets Steven Gerrard's lawyer. The trial is set for the week after we play West Brom. Not great timing.. Perfect timing. He's a poor defender and if he's playing against us we've got every chance of getting in behind him and winning headers at the far post.

Dan! Posted 20 September 2009 Posted 20 September 2009 Alright all, WBA fan here. No news around here about what happened in court, properly got a little slap on the wrist. What's your thoughts on the lad ? He was a bit shaky when he first came here but has improved since Ipswich. He kept Johnson quiet yesterday in the second half after he swapped wings, how many full backs can say they kept him quiet ? When we signed him I know a couple of people on here said it was a sideway step. Not a chance, I think the league table and yesterdays results show how far we are in front of you. (No disrespect ) Bargain for 1M.

Your lot always had ambitions of automatic promotion, ours hope to get in the Top 6 at best. Shame he may miss your inevitable promotion due to a custodial

(No disrespect ) Bargain for 1M. Doesn't look too good for him - Former Leicester City player in court on assault charges Thursday, September 17, 2009, 11:30 A former Leicester City player appeared in court today charged with assaulting two men and two women in a city nightclub. Joe Mattock (19), of Grove Road, Whetstone, Leicester, who now plays for West Brom, was given unconditional bail by Leicester magistrates and will next attend court on November 12 to be committed for trial at Leicester Crown Court. He faces three charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and one of common assault. The assaults are alleged to have taken place at the Liquid/Envy Nightclub, Churchgate, early on August 30. He gave no indication of plea to any of the charges. We will know more on November 12, I'd imagine more than a slap on the wrist if proved guilty, but you never know 'celebs' seem to get an easier ride in the courts if not the media; that could be down to being able to afford the best legal advice. As for it being a sideways step I don't think that was meant to be disrespectful but that he should have served more time here, then if he developed/proved his credentials move to an established Premier side, which you could well have been by then. But these days it's more a case of money than status, you're obviously paying him a lot more so in reality it doesn't matter whether your an upward step or sideways one his agent will get his slice of the money and that seems to be all that matters.
AmericanScott Posted 20 September 2009 Posted 20 September 2009 I read this in the paper the other day. He lives around the corner from me
Leicester Rule! Posted 20 September 2009 Posted 20 September 2009 Rumours going around LCFC is that he will end up inside for this ........ Reliable source.
Jay Posted 20 September 2009 Posted 20 September 2009 Rumours going around LCFC is that he will end up inside for this ........ Reliable source. what the Judge or the Jury? I'm sure LCFC have no sway whatsover with the judicial system in England
lou Posted 20 September 2009 Author Posted 20 September 2009 what the Judge or the Jury?I'm sure LCFC have no sway whatsover with the judicial system in England Exactly! Its sod all to do with anyone at the club, its 1. down to the Jury to convict him and 2. down to the judge to sentence him. I wouldnt second guess anything.

Budweiser Posted 20 September 2009 Posted 20 September 2009 Who gives a shit, he has nothing to do with this club anymore!
Smudge Posted 20 September 2009 Posted 20 September 2009 I thought assault was tried by a magistrate(s) and the defendant could elect to go to trial if they chose to.
Guest Posted 20 September 2009 Posted 20 September 2009 I thought assault was tried by a magistrate(s) and the defendant could elect to go to trial if they chose to. The magistrates have to consider if the trial is not too serious for them to try. If they feel that it is at a level that they can deal with, the matter is passed to the defendant to decide if s/he wants the hearing in front of the mags, or trial at Crown Court. That means that one of two things has occurred: 1) The mags have decided the case is too serious for them to deal with, and Mattock has no choice in the matter. 2) Mattock has chosen to take it to the Crown Court. Given that the sentencing powers are restricted in the mags, this would indicate an intention to plead not guilty, and face trial (you are more likely to be found not guilty by a jury than you are with the mags), however I suspect that it is the former in all honesty.

Thanks Lisa! My only knowledge of the magistrates court was going to the Town Hall courts years ago while bunking off from college; very enlightening.

Sir Fynwy Posted 21 September 2009 Posted 21 September 2009 Hold on, you can watch a trial? How do i do this? It sounds pretty interesting. There are public galleries, you just turn up, go through security and choose which court room (if it's in open session) you want to sit in.

If you ask the court staff, they can tell you which courts are having trials, and which are ordinary run of the mill hearings. Having said that, sentencing is interesting; listening to the excuses that these people come up with would give some on here a burst blood vessel!! If I knew who you were, I would offer to come along to the court with you, but firstly, that's a bit weird, and secondly, I don't think Sir F would approve!
LCFC-ARAB Posted 21 September 2009 Posted 21 September 2009 I sat in a murder trial at the courts in Leicester on a trip with my college. Was 4 guys from Wolverhampton who shot someone, i did feel a bit rude going in and watching for some reason. i was scared to make eye contact with any of them cause they looked bloody scary

It's not the defendants who make me feel uncomfortable, funnily enough, but the family. Thing is, you don't often know what the case is until you get in there, and then it looks worse, I think, if you walk straight back out!
