Praise to Howard and Dyer! And other issues.

I feel over the past few games Steve Howard and Lloyd Dyer have been the best on the par! Like all players they make mistakes every now and then but I am impressed with the way that Dyer has come on. As for Steve he is always a handful and his 196 would reach 200 in no time if we put descent balls into the box! I am sick and tired of people moaning about this and that we are in 5th position! Yes at times the football is not brilliant but it’s effective otherwise we would not be up there! As for defence and the centre of the park we could do with a few signings. I feel Nielson just isn’t up to the standards and brown is far to slow for my liking! We could do with a lively winger, someone who can open a game up! But would you sacrifice King or Wellens to bring a creative central midfielder who can create chances?

I've always been bias towards Howard. I like him a lot. Last season I managed to make almost every game and I was really impressed with him.

This season, I've not made as many matches. However, I thought on Saturday he had a decent game. For me, he won more than he lost in the air and his linkup play with the midfield was always solid and helped to play a part in a lot of our attacks. Sometimes I feel people don't realise the work he does for us in these areas. A lot of people base their opinon of him on how many headers he gets on target or something like that, which is wrong in my book.

Fryatt was quiet against Ipswich but at the moment I still think Howard is the best partner for him.

i agree with you on how howard and dyer have played in last couple of games dyer runs at defences and cauaes probs with his pace and howard is a good target man which you need at this level he provides an out ball when under pressure in defence and he also brings others into the game he looked like the only one who could score yesterday

no need to sacrifice wellens or king for another winger its got to be oakley he is playing out of position any way :yesyes:

Got to disagree with you there mate.

I think Dyer's not lost a league game he's started this season.

Not a problem Rob.

How come though? I appreciate views between the TV and the match itself may differ, but I thought he had a steady game and took his goal well. When I've seen Waghorn play with Fryatt I haven't been overly convinced as a partnership. Seems they get bullied too much for me.

Maybe because we played on Sunday :P:Dlol

Dyer had a fantastic game yesterday, he did well when running at the full backs and of course played an important part in the build up to the goal.

Hopefully he's back to his best form from last season and can start chipping in with some of those wonder strikes we came so accustomed too.

Who said Dyer hates the cold. Bollocks

I agree with the statement made about howard and dyer over the past few games, and yes, dyer has been a very handy little winger...

But Howards not always been my favourite. There were points of last season where I, and a few other fans, were calling for his transfer request papers.

But yes, hes been immaculate!

It bugs me, Dyer clearly is dangerous when he has the ball and is running at defenders but it seems like nobody wants to give him the ball in the 2nd half. Just give it him and let him go to work, who cares about variety, everytime he gets the ball he looks dangerous so just play to your strengths.

Last year Dyer seemed to go from great from August to November, anonymous from November to March then great again from April to May.

This year he has been inconsitent all the time but since xmas he has been one of the stand out players.

Howard tries hard and will give everything and I just think he is a slow starter and I'd love it if he could go on scoring run.

I like Steve Howard although I think he is much better against the lesser teams in the division, when we play say top 10 teams he generally doesn't do as well for me. Having said that he has done nothing wrong lately so there is no need to replace him for the next game.

I've always liked Dyer, his pace alone causes opposing teams so many problems when he is on a good day.

Maybe because we played on Sunday :P:Dlol

Dyers been one of the best players this season, everytime he gets the ball he goes forward and not many do that in our team. He runs at defenders. Maybe he doesnt get past them all the time but he puts 100% in my view.

I think we'd be better off recalling Gradel and playing him right wing back and may be Dyer on the left, Gradel's always showed he has defensive abilities and anything's got be better than Neilson at the moment.

Maybe try a 5-3-2 with Hobbs, Morrison and brown at the back (I know Brown had a shocker, but he's had too many MOFTMs to worry too much)

I'd also drop Oakley (which will never happen as he's a Pearson favourite) and play Wellens and King in the middle and have Fryatt Howard upfront with Gallagher or Kerm just behind them.

Or the captain, maybe?

I must say that I was looking forward to seeing Dyer terrifying McAuley and co by running at them after some promising early moves on what was a surface more suited to nippy wingers than lumbering centre backs but we just defaulted to Mcgivern lumping it across the area after a while. I'm always pleased to see Dyer in the side -as a club we seem reluctant to use these flair players effectively

I am totally ambivalent about Howard.

While we continue to play the direct, long ball game that has been the norm under Pearson, Howard remains a pivotal player. He has the experience and shear combativeness to make the system work (as well as it does) and without him we are often at a loss, just look at the games when Waghorn and Fryatt started up front!

Much as I dislike that style of play, whilst we continue to play the long ball we need Howard, simple as!

Yanni looks like he could be the obvious replacement but lacks experience in English football and I can not see the odd 10-15 mins as a sub making that much of a difference, so Howard it is..........

I'd personally hate to see 5-3-2, it'd signify an even less offensive threat than our current 4-4-2 in my opinion, even with Gradel and Dyer in the team. Also, unless the centre-backs are used to the system, they end up getting in each others ways and generally looking uncomfortable. I know it's only one example, but remembering back to Croatia 2-0 England under Steve McLaren, the three best centre halves in the country simply couldn't get to grips with the formation. I'm not saying it couldn't work, but in my opinion there's more chance of it failing than working.

And as for the last point, we have seen Pearson try a man in behind the strikers in a couple of games. Watford away it seemed to work and gave the strikers more chances, whereas Plymouth at home I don't think it made us look much of a threat at all.
