10. Joe Lewis, Peterborough

Despite the national team’s current worries between the sticks the future of the position looks decidedly brighter with a number of young prospects plying their trade in the Championship. With five England Under-21 appearances to his name and 95 outings for Peterborough one thing 22-year-old Lewis doesn’t lack is experience. Indeed having taken part in back-to-back promotion campaigns and having appeared in every professional division outside the Premiership there is surely only one way to go.

9. Graham Dorrans, West Bromwich Albion

Technically this young Scottish attacking midfielder has previous, albeit limited, top flight experience. That being said the 22-year-old’s relentless form this season sees him make the cut. Not only does he lead the Championship’s assists chart with 13, he has also notched an impressive 11 goals this season to lead West Brom’s scoring charts and put them on course for a tilt at automatic promotion. Should success be forthcoming it will be offer up a deserved second bite of the Premier League pie for Dorrans.

8. Aaron McLean, Peterborough

Having risen through the ranks from his early days at non-league Grays Athletic goal-machine McLean is widely acknowledged as one of the hottest properties outside the Premiership having engineered both of Peterborough’s recent promotions. Lightning quick, with aerial ability to match, the striker’s future is the subject of much debate after a transfer request was accepted in December 2009.

7. Nathaniel Clyne, Crystal Palace

The subject of a deadline day bid from Wolves, Clyne showed Mick McCarthy exactly what he was missing when Palace dumped their Midland opponents out of the FA Cup this week. The attack minded full-back has time on his side and at 18-years-old has been likened to England international and ex-Palace loanee Ashley Cole. Equally comfortable bombing forward from the right or left, Palace’s Young Player of the Year for 2009 certainly has a bright future.

6. Scott Loach, Watford

The young goalkeeper is carrying on where he left off last season with a string of impressive and mature displays that have seen him capped 11 times for England Under-21 and even approached about a move to Tottenham. After firmly establishing himself as an integral part of the Hornet’s side at 21 it is only a matter of time before this young star is playing regular Premiership football and knocking on the door of the full England team.

5. Matty Fryatt, Leicester

There is no doubting the prodigious goal scoring talent of Matty Fryatt is crying out to be tested regularly at the highest level of English football. Will he make it there this season with Leicester? If he doesn’t it is surely only a matter of time before the 23-year-old makes the step up having proven himself on numerous occasions to be a reliable goalscorer averaging better than a one in two strike-rate for the past two campaigns.

4. Gylfi Sigurdsson, Reading

This Icelandic youngster had represented his country at four different levels before establishing himself in the Royals first team this season, taking to Championship football like a duck to water. A shining light in an otherwise disappointing season for Reading, Sigurdsson is the clubs top scorer and second highest assist provider in a remarkable debut season. Reading fans beware, a continuation of your poor form and it wont be long before Gylffi is a goner.

3. Lee Camp, Nottingham Forest

Completing the trio of talented young English stoppers is a goalkeeper who could be getting his chance in the Premiership before too long if his team continue their breathtaking promotion-chasing form. With Camp going an unrivalled 631 minutes without conceding a goal his form has led some, including his manager Billy Davies, to tout him as an outsider for England’s World Cup squad.

2. Sean St-Ledger, Preston North End

A player of Premiership ability, St-Ledger could fit into a number of top-flight defences, a feat he has illustrated with his assured performances for Ireland during their World Cup qualifying campaign. The resilient and determined defender has steadily climbed the professional leagues after impressing as an award-winning youngster at Peterborough when they won promotion from League Two. It is surely only a matter of time before the journey to the top is completed.

1. Joe Ledley, Cardiff

At only 23-years-old local boy Ledley is a veteran of both the Cardiff first XI and life in the Championship. Having amassed 220 appearances in a six-year spell including notable highlights such as scoring the winning goal in the 2007-08 FA Cup Semi-Final and partaking in the Bluebirds first cup final appearance since 1927. Regularly linked with a move to the Premier League, the Welsh international is yet to make the leap, although with his contract up at the end of the season speculation is rife regarding the gifted midfielder’s future.

The media rimming of Peterborough continues by them being the best represented team here, even when they're languishing at the bottom of the table. Aaron Maclean in the Premiership would be laughable and Joe Lewis has looked shaky at this level.

Not surprised to see Fryatt there however and he is one of the players listed who genuinely would be worth backing to do a job in the Premiership. It isn't a bad list, it just seems silly to tout Maclean with only 6 goals in 24 league appearances and a keeper who has conceded more than 50 at the other end.

They've basically just made a list of 'some young players with potential'. I don't think any of them are ready for the Premier League, although some probably will be in future.

And is it only me that thinks Scott Carson is an excellent keeper? Certainly I'd say he was far more 'ready for the premiership' that the keepers on that list.

Loach and Lewis dont fill me with any confidence.

Ledley yes, St Ledger yes, and Dorrans yes for me

Probably the most outrageous from the list is Sir Matty of Fryatt.

I'd be willing to bet a decent amount of money that he will never score more than 12 goals in a Premier League season.

Camp is easily the best keeper listed there. I've been a great fan of Camp since seeing him at Walkers in his Derby days. I always hoped we'd try and sign him when Derby wanted to get rid. Bet their gutted now.

His reflexes are second to none in the Championship.

I'd say he could easily get in a team in the bottom half.

Middlesborough didnt seem to rate him that much either

Suppose he did stop 2 more goals being scored when we played them at theirs this season too. I just wouldnt class him as Premiership ready

I wouldnt Fryatt either to be honest

Camp?! I'm not so sure. Same goes for Fryatt, although I've only really seen him for 20 minutes in the flesh i dont think he'd get into one of the lower (read lesser) prem teams.

As for the peterborough pair, the keeper was easily beaten by a floating free kick when we played them at theirs and it really was one he should've at least got close to. McClean's decent enough at championship level but nothing about him suggests he'd be able to do it in the prem.

Scott Carson is obviously gonna be more ready for the Premiership as hes played most of his career so far there.

Yep, hence why I said it. Though I suppose they're looking only at people who haven't had much of a chance at prem level so far for this list.

The lad from Reading is woeful. He played in the last game of last season for Crewe on loan and he was dreadful.

Sigurdsson? I always thought he's looked very decent, scores a lot of long shots / free kicks doesn't he?

the croatians (in paticular Kranjcar and Olic) agree with you on that.

Graham Dorrans should be up there

Ross McCormack should be up there

IMO Graham Dorrans and Paul McKenna are the best players outside of the Prem.

Lee Camp is fantastic though, him and Joe Murphy are the best goalkeepers in the Championship.
