Bellend Sebastian Posted 8 October 2010 Posted 8 October 2010 Allright people,is it going to be ok to go town saturday cus not actually sure what to expect....who the f**k are these edl ????? It's a heady mix of disaffected loonies, football hooligans and ex BNP supporters who have been marginalised after they've gone a bit too mainstream, united by their opposition to 'radical' Islam, although they often seem to forget the radical bit during speeches on the subject. Someone who's actually witnessed their shenanigans at previous meets will have a better idea of what they're likely to get up to, but they'll be very heavily policed so the potential for disorder will probably depend on a) how many of them turn up and b) how many people from UAF and other groups turn up to confront them. You'll see them coming from a mile off, so I expect they'll be easy enough to avoid but some parts of town will be closed off, some bus services etc will be diverted/not running and some businesses will probably be closed while it's going on
Stoneygate fox Posted 8 October 2010 Posted 8 October 2010 That helps so i take it there fooked in the head???? I just got told a rumour that alot of foreign hooligans will be there on saturday to try and cause trouble but not to sure who they will be going for..
Ozwin Posted 8 October 2010 Posted 8 October 2010 I heard a muslim group is gonna show up. The shops have borded all the windows up too, I didn't think this was as big as it seemingly sounds.
BoneDog Posted 8 October 2010 Posted 8 October 2010 Sikhs are a minority in India however howvever in WW1 and WW2 they had dispropotionate numbers of them in the army compared to the Hindu majority. They displayed courage beyond the norm and fought alongside the Allied forces from Britain aganist the Nazis. During the wars the were treated with great respect by there follow soldiers from the west however they were not recognised by the forces in control and near enough shunted away from the history books similar to the Gurkhas. This country owes a great debt to those Sikhs who gave their lives but there efferts are rarley recognised. The majority of people don't even know Sikhs fought with us during the wars. There is a lot of hidden history with the Sikhs and war which most of us are unawre of. Sikhs in India are still regarded highley today for the fighting ability and bravery the Prime Ministers elite guards are normally Sikh and have been for many years. Ah I get ya now! I never knew anything about that, I'll have to have a look for something to read or watch about this.
adam1 Posted 8 October 2010 Posted 8 October 2010 I heard a muslim group is gonna show up. The shops have borded all the windows up too, I didn't think this was as big as it seemingly sounds. The EDL claimed 3k+. It was viewed as the big one. However the EDL have now realised that they won't get the turn out they were expecting. So they have now announced marches in Nuneaton and Coventry on the same day. I think that these two facts go hand in hand. I think that the two new marches have been announced to try and give an excuse to the poor turnout in Leicester. The 'largest supported organisation' which boasts of the ability to gather thousands of supporters at the drop of the hat turns out they are not as big as they actually are.
Koke Posted 8 October 2010 Posted 8 October 2010 Other than sing xenophobic songs and make life inconvenient of the local residents, what exactly is their objective for these marches? All they will get it is more bad press. If I were them I would hire an entire PR department.
BoneDog Posted 8 October 2010 Posted 8 October 2010 Are many people going just to watch and see what cracks off? I'd like you to take your dictaphones or a pad and pen if you are so you can write a thorough report on here when you get home. Like someone said above they are going out of curiosity, I think if I lived in Leicester I'd nip down just to see for myself what crack is. I'd keep me distance but I'd be tooled up just in case. What kind of weapons are the police allowed to carry for this kind of thing? Are any of them armed with guns or are tasers the limit at the moment?
Big Ol' Bob Posted 8 October 2010 Posted 8 October 2010 I'll be nippin down as it happens, I ear it's ganna get pwopa nawty though, old firm job if ya know what I mean guv'. I ain't avin' it goin'' on in my manor my son, that's for sure. Oooiii Oiiiii....... I'll be all like "Do you want some, Do you facking' want some sunshiine", and they will be all like "Nah mate sorry". But I'll do them anyway. Shhlaaaaaaags!

Chairman of the Bored Posted 8 October 2010 Posted 8 October 2010 The shops in Humberstone Gate have all been boarded up. There are other closures tomorrow as well: Curve, Phoenix etc. The Merc has published those streets that will be closed to traffic (although hopefully not cyles!) here: http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/news/Police-release-route-EDL-march-Leicester/article-2738391-detail/article.html I'm hoping to get there early, call a truce and organise a bit of a kick about between the two factions a la WW1 half time in the trenches malarky. I'll also have my camera, so any of you going "out of curiosity" if you don't appear curious when I snap you I'll want to l know why.
Ross-Kemp Posted 8 October 2010 Posted 8 October 2010 Ill write a report of what happens at somepoint tomorrow or sunday.
Chairman of the Bored Posted 8 October 2010 Posted 8 October 2010 Big 'Ol Bob and Chairman! What of it?
BoneDog Posted 8 October 2010 Posted 8 October 2010 Ill write a report of what happens at somepoint tomorrow or sunday. I look forward to it. I'm hoping it just fizzles out into nothing but wouldn't be surprised if it gets pretty hectic for a while.
BoneDog Posted 8 October 2010 Posted 8 October 2010 What of it? "if you don't appear curious" ! Good joke I thought.
Chairman of the Bored Posted 8 October 2010 Posted 8 October 2010 "if you don't appear curious" ! Good joke I thought. Fair enough.
FoxyPV Posted 8 October 2010 Posted 8 October 2010 Ill write a report of what happens at somepoint tomorrow or sunday. Three times for someone who's just curious- mmmm sounds like a supporter in disguise!
ts_1010 Posted 9 October 2010 Posted 9 October 2010 Some interesting posts on here regarding this, just for the record I don't agree with the edl or the uaf. I attending the nottingham demo out of sheer curiosity and the fact I didn't have a ticket for the game and I also attended the bradford "demo". Now without meaning to sound too onesided, the trouble in both towns with the edl was caused by the police. In nottingham, they allowed the uaf to confront the edl which sparked chaos, they let 3 or 4 uaf supporters breach the police lines to attack the edl and when the edl retaliated, the police were very heavy handed. Again in bradford, the police payed more attention on fencing the edl in rather than keeping the uaf and edl apart. The inevitable happened and the uaf and mdl threw coins and smokebombs, to which the edl threw smokebombs, beer cans and bottles back. The police again tryed to force around 700 edl protesters into a small corner which forced people to climb over into a building site to escape, the police then charged at the front line of protesters hitting women and men alike with their riot shields, again members of the edl responded by throwing bricks and stones. Wrong response, but after being provoked, many of you would do the same. I will be in town tomorrow, but merely as an interested bystander to again witness what happens. But whatever happens, whoever causes trouble, the edl will again be made out to be the worst group by the media and idiots who have no idea. Nah... Thats a load of rubbish mate sorry. The EDL were on a prearranged and planned march through town which was countered by a standing protest by UAF. The police tried to keep them apart as much as possible but both parties made strides to get closer together. The UAF moved closer to the march route and the EDL stopped marching entirely when they finally found someone to shout at. that left the police dealing with two static protest groups who were determined to cause damage to each other. I dont want to get into the politics of the whole EDL/UAF debate. But the UAF group was pathetically small. (There are bigger attendances at the Coventry School of Excellence) About 30 people all told, I actually walked through them on the way to Maccy's, it was like pushing through a bus queue. As far as im aware, this is expected to be a similar event. P.S. buses are being diverted but only in the final stop positions. Some services are being cancelled though...
lcfc_jme Posted 9 October 2010 Posted 9 October 2010 I've seen it with my own eye's all of them groups are hell bent on violence against each other, non of them are of any use in society, they all should fook off!! Valid. Put the lot of them in a giant, open space somewhere and let them kill each other off (same thing I've said about football hooligans in the past) would be the best bet. Would never happen though. Yes I would say that is a fair point. I personally believe that all of these groups (MDL, UAF, EDL etc.) have their elements that work secretly for certain people whose motto is 'Order out of Chaos' (which basically means create total chaos and then new laws will have to be forced through which will give the elite total control over the population). Now that the technology is there to totally subdue a population I don't think it will be long before true global chaos is orchestrated and under way, and groups like those mentioned are the perfect means of creating the required chaos. * does anyone know if I have misunderstood what Order out of Chaos really means?! Empty, I like your postings. Really, I do. But your conspiracy theories and crazy slants on things seriously confuse me. Especially at this time of evening and after a "couple" of beers. This Order of Chaos thing sounds pretty intriguing though, I may check it out tomorrow. Sober! Actually mate if you look at the arrest figures then UAF piss all over the EDL. Hummzzz... I did say I'd be happy for people to show me any evidence to the contrary, so fair play to you Mablo. I'll give the actual stats a look tomorrow instead of walking through town to get to the Royal. I'll leave my trip there 'til Sunday. If that's the case though, it seems odd to me that the EDL arrests get reported far more than the UAF's.. Fair enough the EDL bring all the negative press they get on themselves, but completely biased reporting is only going to strengthen the EDL's "rallying call" in the inner-city areas where there are more "natives" feeling deprived? In the same way the BNP go about their business?
MikeyT Posted 9 October 2010 Posted 9 October 2010 What time is all this supposted to be happening in town?
Ross-Kemp Posted 9 October 2010 Posted 9 October 2010 Ventured into town for a couple of shandys last night, first of all, town was dead, hardly anyone about for a friday night in leicester. Secondly, trouble flared outside the sunbar with 2 muslims, a young spotty white lad and the bouncer, don't know what caused it, but 16 police officers turned up. Nice to see they're prepared. Thirdly, the amount of young lads in town last night, shouting EDL and "fook the muslims" was ridicolous, for anyone that thinks your average EDL supporter is a skinhead / football hooligan, prepare to be very much mistaken. It seemed as though cardigans and plimsoles was the dress code, and last but not least, as we drove home from town, approaching dysart way (sainsburys roundabout) at about 3 this morning, there were in excess of 30 young muslim lads, a few of which had bats and metal bars, just stood on the roundabout. I'm off into town soon, ill keep you updated !
Zingari Posted 9 October 2010 Posted 9 October 2010 i should be ok if i make a visit as i always look a bit curious , hardly a day goes by when someone doesn't look my way and remark " look at that curious looking fooker "

Hope innocent people dont get caught up in it....mind you most have read/heard what happening so they stay away.
davieG Posted 9 October 2010 Posted 9 October 2010 BBC Part of Leicester has been cordoned off ahead of two protests expected to take place in the city centre. The English Defence League (EDL) is due to hold a demonstration and Unite Against Fascism (UAF) will stage a counter-protest. Several roads around the eastern part of the city are closed from 0900 until 1800 BST. The groups are banned from marching but will be escorted to hold static protests in Humberstone Gate East. Peace eventsOfficers from 13 forces will be on hand to maintain order. It is expected to be the largest police operation in Leicester for several decades. Some bus routes will also be disrupted, so temporary stops have been set up in Belgrave Gate and Abbey Street. A map showing details of road closures and other public information is available on the council's website. A series of "green-themed peace events", including a performance by musician Billy Bragg, were held in Leicester on Friday and more are expected to take place on Sunday. Some street lights will glow green, and the city council has urged people to wear green ribbons and attend the peace events as an alternative to taking part in any demonstrations.
