zubi Posted 6 September 2011 Posted 6 September 2011 Religion is just a crutch for the frightened little lambs among us . Too scared to even think that there is nothing at the end of life and behave accordingly . Oooo I must not do that Gods watching and i won't get to heaven ! pretty bloody childish, and live and die never realising Religion is man made to control and use the frightened little sheep and even tell them to go and kill fellow human beings for not believing ! True freedom starts with the rejection of all thing secular . Oh and Tatchell is going to hell for dropping anchor in poo bay according to the bible . I could just as easily say that Aethists are arrogant, uninteligent and rebelious against the words of god which are factual and can also have scientific evidence behind them. Who choose not to use intelligence to realise that despite the fact some religious aspects may be controlled, that the fundamental teachings of all religion are not to control the masses but to offer salvation and to bring about love and respect towards one another by achieving a good character which will benefit the world and please the Lord. Oh and that aethists are just satans bitch! ..... But to be honest I don't think like that , if you choose to be an aethist that's not for me to judge. I'm sure you came to the conclusion that there is no god by using intelligence so good on you. Just aslong as you have some good in you which you share to those around you. At the end of the day, it's a personal choice which most people on here accept be they religious or non-religious Anyhow its a win win for people who do believe in God, If God doesn't exist then we will just go to sleep in our graves and we wont remember the time we wasted on religion in life. But if god does exist we have a little bit of chance to get into paradise
zubi Posted 6 September 2011 Posted 6 September 2011 Good read from Peter Thatchell who went on saturday, always liked him as he is one of the ones on the left who actually oppose all sort of bigotry and no just white-spewed racism.

God seems to have terrible self esteem if he's always asking to be praised and worshipped.
BoneDog Posted 6 September 2011 Posted 6 September 2011 Religion is just a crutch for the frightened little lambs among us . Seriously you should stop believing that this is true. It is a common accusation aimed at religious people from some atheists and it is a totally fabricated psychological profiling of billions of people!! (in fact, I heard exactly the same sort of psychological profiling going on in the terrible conspiracy 911 programme the other night aimed at people who don't believe the official story. Awful tricks) Only somebody who doesn't understand anything about any of the religions they are talking about would believe such nonsense. I know plenty of Christian and Muslim men and women and they are far from scared 'little sheep' as it is so often worded. Many of them have no fear of anything, including death, because they have long accepted that it is coming to every single one of us and they are at ease with the notion. A major part of being religious is to try and prepare your soul for death by being a good person and trying to help as many people as you can. I don't see how that is a bad thing that should be mocked in any way. Also, the belief that people seem to have that all religion is man made and used by powerful people to control mankind is a wrong one. I know that certain people have hijacked Christianity, for example, since around 400ad and imposed churches and centres of control, but that wasn't how it was supposed to be. Christianity was started by pious people who were fighting and standing up to massive oppression and corruption. The bravest people. But in the end after a few hundred years the corrupt oppressors retook power over most Christians and changed their book and ways of life. It's all in the history books - so what really happened is that a great movement started that would improve peoples way of life, but then this movement was infiltrated and partly destroyed. There is still a secret war going on to destroy all religions and ancient ways of life - from Tamil to Christianity - by the very secret dispicable groups who are happily also destroying everything else we hold dear in this world. Sorry, but if anyone believes any of the paragraph I quoted then I really believe you are barking up the wrong tree.
Guest MattP Posted 6 September 2011 Posted 6 September 2011 Thought you disagreed with the anti-EDL counter protest? I disagree with the ones who want to use it for violent confrontation. I disagree with the way groups like UAF organise this as they are quite prepared to stand next to groups who hold opinions as extreme as the ones they are supposed to be opposing, I find it incredibly bizarre.
zubi Posted 6 September 2011 Posted 6 September 2011 I prefer to think that Atheists can be good human beings without the incentive of reward of an afterlife. God seems to have terrible self esteem if he's always asking to be praised and worshipped. Ofcourse many aethists are just as kind and generous as many religious folk, I agree. And yes we are created to worship God, but it's not as if he needs our worship to survive or be chuffed with his creation The Qur'aan says “And I (Allaah) created not the jinn and mankind except that they should worship Me (Alone)” [al-Dhaariyaat 51:56] But then it also says “Allaah stands not in need of any of Mankind or Jinn and all that exists” [al-Imran 3:97] Now that may sound contradictory, but you have to understand that God is not anything like his creation. People who truly believe in the oness of god believe he is unique and do not attribute him to be like any of his creation. His reason for creation is not a selfish one, and any monotheistic religion will believe in the following passage in regards to the purpose of life. We created them not except with truth (i.e. to examine and test those who are obedient and those who are disobedient and then reward the obedient ones and punish the disobedient ones), but most of them know not” [al-Dukhaan 44:38]
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 6 September 2011 Posted 6 September 2011 I rest my case .  I would rest it, It's not much of a "case", is it? More a case of Tossers' Dementure". .

21st Century Fox Posted 6 September 2011 Posted 6 September 2011 Taoism: Shit happens. Buddhism: If shit happens, it isn't really shit. Zen Buddhism: Shit is, and is not. Hinduism: This shit has happened before. Islam: If shit happens, it is the will of Allah. Catholicism: If shit happens, you deserve it. Protestantism: Let shit happen to someone else. Calvinism: Shit happens because you don't work. Creationism: God made all shit. Rastafarianism: Let's smoke this shit! Atheism: What shit?
BoneDog Posted 6 September 2011 Posted 6 September 2011 I disagree with the ones who want to use it for violent confrontation. I disagree with the way groups like UAF organise this as they are quite prepared to stand next to groups who hold opinions as extreme as the ones they are supposed to be opposing, I find it incredibly bizarre. Both sides definitely have their extreme elements and I think they have all been infiltrated by elements of power that are working their way towards banning all protests by any group. I was thinking of watching a documentary later about how protest groups are infiltrated to make their cause look bad and the description says something like this : " We have documented numerous instances from the UK to Canada to the United States, where authorities have either used black bloc anarchists to generate violence or simply relied on a few of their own undercover police posing as troublemakers to provoke mayhem". Might be alright if I can remember what the blummin film is called.
Rincewind Posted 6 September 2011 Posted 6 September 2011 The thing that puts me off God is the 'Praise me I am the greatest' thing. In the Commandment there are 2 or 3 of them before it gets to 'Thy shalt not kill' Such an ego. I thank doctors for curing me when I am ill, I thank my mother for enduring pregnancy then giving birth to me, I thank the girl at the checkout at the supermarket for packing my bags, I thank the bus driver for getting me home safely I thank the technicians, inventers for bringing me entertainment on TV and internet. But God? he will have to get to the back of the queue along with Mickey Mouse Donald Duck and ET..

But God? he will have to get to the back of the queue along with Mickey Mouse Donald Duck and ET.. Exactly! People let a fictional character take credit for the good work people do. Sometimes even instead of a surgeon who's just saved their life! I just can't understand how we as a species have come this far - being able to communicate with each other on opposite sides of the planet and beyond in an instant, flying around in the air and even in space - and yet most people in the world still believe the same bullshit people believed in the bronze age, with absolutely NO evidence, ffs. NONE! I do apologise if anyone would rather not read this, but I'm sick of religion, and the world will be a far better place once it's completely dead. If you believe anything with no evidence to back it up, you've really got to ask yourself why. I think most religion is truly sinister. It behaves like a computer virus, with the computer being the human mind. It threatens with unfalsifiable things to make the victim afraid to even think about disobeying. It's a set of rules for ancient civilisations trying their best, handed down the generations to modern society, where they are more obsolete than the ****ing mangle. Anyone think it's ok to stone an unruly kid to death? The bible says you must! It gets on my nerves that people think faith is a virtue. Bollocks is it! Faith is believing things for no good reason whatsoever. Faith is gullibility.
21st Century Fox Posted 7 September 2011 Posted 7 September 2011 I'm not sure faith is gullibility. I see it more as misplaced hope. Hope that theres a point and structure to our lives. Humanism makes far more sense to me. There's too many God's to choose from

If you believe anything with no evidence to back it up, you've really got to ask yourself why. it's on the way out though, the amount of atheists is rising and people are realising what they have been taught as children is not true thanks to the ease of obtaining information through the internet and a lot of decent documentaries on TV, give it 200 years and most religion will be gone I'd guess.
21st Century Fox Posted 7 September 2011 Posted 7 September 2011 Surely you could be religious and a humanist? For me it's all about existentialism True, but I'm firmly in the Secular humanist camp.
Houdini Logic Posted 7 September 2011 Posted 7 September 2011 True, but I'm firmly in the Secular humanist camp. Certainly a good shout
Rincewind Posted 7 September 2011 Posted 7 September 2011 Was it in a Foxestalk thread that there was a link to an American TV network devoted tpo athiests? They invited call from anyone and have had some run ins from the Godites.
21st Century Fox Posted 7 September 2011 Posted 7 September 2011 Certainly a good shout This is pretty mind blowing... Carl Sagan... Legend. The idea that God is an oversized white male with a flowing beard who sits in the sky and tallies the fall of every sparrow is ludicrous. But if by God one means the set of physical laws that govern the universe, then clearly there is such a God. This God is emotionally unsatisfying... it does not make much sense to pray to the law of gravity.
panky and our gang Posted 7 September 2011 Posted 7 September 2011 "if you choose to be an aethist that's not for me to judge". Zubi I did not choose to be an Atheist that came naturally .I was very lucky to have had a upbringing were no kind of religious indoctrination took place what so ever . I was encouraged to look at the outside world freely and to challenge all it's doctrines . You will never know the free spirit that lies with in us all unfortunately yours was stolen as a child because your parents made sure of that . Tell me this if you had been brought up in a world where there had never been any mention of a God would that thought have come into your head ? No because no one would have put into your mind in the first place . Religion is born out of the basic need of all humans to ask why we are here and what is life for . We don't have the answer because it is beyond our intelligence even if there is a reason . So to comfort our selves and maybe have a purpose or goal in life we invented religion with all it's magical but fictitious answers to unanswerable questions. If there is a Satan religion is the greatest trick he ever played on us all .Blind faith is just what it is BLIND.
Rincewind Posted 7 September 2011 Posted 7 September 2011 Good quote. Who do you thank for the wonders of the universe. It comforts some people to thank a God of their choosing. Maybe we all have a God inside us. I call it conscience. It's what makes us all human an superior to other life forms on Earth. We have the ability to think, reason, choose right from wrong and progress in the world of technology and medicine. Without this we would be just monkeys without fur.
panky and our gang Posted 7 September 2011 Posted 7 September 2011 Agreed and we can do all of those things without religion .
panky and our gang Posted 7 September 2011 Posted 7 September 2011 We may be the superior form of life on this planet but when it comes to hatred self destruction and killing for no reason we are indeed top of the form . Who do you think made us like that ? not the god of some peoples imagination it's called natural selection .
zubi Posted 7 September 2011 Posted 7 September 2011 Oh dear, looks like i'm on my own on this one Ah well... let me just try to explain why people believe in God. I'm not trying to convert anyone, just trying to help you understand why people have faith. Sorry this is going to be quite long so bare with me I just can't understand how we as a species have come this far - being able to communicate with each other on opposite sides of the planet and beyond in an instant, flying around in the air and even in space - and yet most people in the world still believe the same bullshit people believed in the bronze age, with absolutely NO evidence, ffs. NONE! There is scientific evidence to suggest the existence of God, lots of it. Most people haven't read The Bible or The Qur'aan so they wont know about the evidence. Take the Qur'aan for example "Recite in the name of thy lord, who created man from an Alaq" Surah Al Alaq: 96-1:2 The word Alaq is a description of a leech which clings and takes blood. The exact same thing which an embryo does at the starting process of childbirth, which was only recently discovered Some of the researchers gave these statements. "...in summary, the Qur'an describes not only the development of external form, but emphasises also the internal stages, the stages inside the embryo, of its creation and development, emphasising major events recognised by contemporary science." E. Marshall John (Pensylvannia) "...It has been a great pleasure for me to help clarify statements in the Qur'an about human development. It is clear to me that these statements must have come to Muhammad from God, or Allah, because most of this knowledge was not discovered until many centuries later. This proves to me that Muhammad must have been a messenger of God, or Allah." Keith. L Moore (University of Toronto) "...In a relatively few ayahs (Qur'anic verses) is contained a rather comprehensive description of human development from the time of commingling of the gametes through organogenesis. No such distinct and complete record of human development such as classification, terminology, and description existed previously. In most, if not all instances, this description antedates by many centuries the recording of the various stages of human embryonic and fetal development recorded in the traditional scientific literature." Gerald Coeringer (Georgetown University) As well as providing some case notes and illustrations as evidence "Then We made the drop into a leech-like structure." (Quran 23:14). The drop referring to the mixture of male semen and female bits a drawing of a 24 day-old human embryo. Note the leech-like appearance of the human embryo at this stage. Below, a drawing of a leech or bloodsucker This is an appropriate description of the human embryo from days 7-24 when it clings to the endometrium of the uterus, in the same way that a leech clings to the skin. Just as the leech derives blood from the host, the human embryo derives blood from the decidua or pregnant endometrium. It is remarkable how much the embryo of 23-24 days resembles a leech (Fig. 2). As there were no microscopes or lenses available in the 7th century, doctors would not have known that the human embryo had this leech-like appearance. "Then of that leech-like structure, We made a chewed lump." (Quran 23:14) The chewed appearance results from the somites which resemble teeth marks. The somites represent the beginnings or primordia of the vertebrae "Then We made out of the chewed lump, bones, and clothed the bones in flesh." (Quran 23:14) So this is research conducted by scientists who confirmed the evidence in the Qur'aan. There is a video on youtube where these guys are giving a lecture on their findings, I can't find it but once I do I will put it up. Heres a video about the same subject which some may find interesting. There are loads of other scientific mentioning in the Qur'aan, be they about the purpose of the mountains, the stars, the oceans, the vegetation, the atmosperic layers in the sky, the creation of honey... etc...
