davieG Posted 18 February 2010 Posted 18 February 2010 LinkI dont think it should be allowed. Rules are rules, and if Pompey are allowed to sell, everyone should. The problem is not them selling but allowing someone to buy outside the window. You can't allow the one without allowing the other!
lildave3 Posted 18 February 2010 Posted 18 February 2010 Nope, shouldn't be allowed. Like Davie said who the hell is going to buy these players.
breadandcheese Posted 18 February 2010 Posted 18 February 2010 Surely, there is nothing stopping them doing a deal now, albeit the player joins the club on loan with the deal being made permanent when the window opens.
davieG Posted 18 February 2010 Posted 18 February 2010 Surely, there is nothing stopping them doing a deal now, albeit the player joins the club on loan with the deal being made permanent when the window opens. But would that generate an immediate income? Someone would need to be prepared to pay in advance, what would happen if Pompey then went bust, surely any player would then become a free agent as they couldn't actually be owned by the new/paying club until the transfer window re-opens.
Samilktray Posted 18 February 2010 Posted 18 February 2010 As much as I enjoy deadline day, I dont really like the transfer window, think we should do away with it.
CosbehFox Posted 18 February 2010 Posted 18 February 2010 No and FIFA won't allow it. Plus how many times are transfer fee's immediately forthcoming. Portsmouth should stop embrassing themselves and take the bullet of administration. The PL will however do everything within their power to stop them going in admin or bust, it would greatly effect their international reptuation. How many times as a top flight side go bust in the top five European divisions? Can't think of one.

They will either survive or go out of business
The Doctor Posted 19 February 2010 Posted 19 February 2010 Fiorentina did 2003 I think thought it was 2001 but still they did go bust early last decade, got relegated through to their equivilent of L2.
AmericanScott Posted 19 February 2010 Posted 19 February 2010 Pompey are clear to sell their players under a little-known 'club in crisis' rule but, in the process, they will be hit with a nine-point penalty by the Premier League. Anyone else know about this rule?

The PL will be happy with any decision that allows Pompey to survive whilst in the PL. All they want is if they're are going bust to go bust after relegation so that the PL has the appearance of remaining untainted.

All they want is if they're are going bust to go bust after relegation so that the PL has the appearance of remaining untainted. That's a valid point, the PL will want to aviod a massive investigation into how it's clubs are run, and want to avoid the mass histeria with it!!
Guest Bilo Posted 19 February 2010 Posted 19 February 2010 My sympathy is limited for the club itself as they over-reached themselves and have only themselves to blame for that. I feel rather more sorry for the fans however and hope the club can stay in business. Of course the practical implications of the transfer window rules shouldn't be waved for Portsmouth as the number of clubs in financial difficulties would eventually render the whole notion pointless. Rules are rules and one a precedent is set, all will want to follow and will rightly cite the example of Portsmouth if and when their request is refused. There's no reason why Pompey should be a special case any more than Accrington Stanley, Watford, Crystal Palace or any other club that has experienced financial difficulties this year. If Pompey were to go out of existence I very much doubt with their fanbase and size they'd have to start in the Hampshire Saturday League Division Five. Like Fiorentina, they'd probably be in or around the FL system anyway. They'd find a way into the BSP or Blue Square South as an absolute minimum. That's if, and it's a huge if, their creditors and the EPL allow them to go out of business in the first place. How damaging would be the publicity for the creditors be if they allowed a well-supported club with a long tradition to go bankrupt? How embarrassing for the Premier League if a member club went under as a direct result of their trying to progress with it? The Premiership wouldn't look quite the 'promised land' it has been purported to be since 1992 if that were to happen, and it would rock football to its very core. The damaged and undermined Serie A is the cautionary tale to be mindful of. So no, they shouldn't be allowed to sell players, give themselves an unfair monetary advantage over other clubs with scant finances in the League. Such suggestions play on ill-founded fears that will probably never be realised. Let them get relegated and allow the parachute payments to service their debts, not click their fingers and earn special treatment because they can't manage their finances effectively.
Sir Fynwy Posted 19 February 2010 Posted 19 February 2010 Go bust pompey, pompey go bust. No sympathy. Turn off the lights on your way out.
lou Posted 19 February 2010 Posted 19 February 2010 I feel about as sorry for them as they would for us
Ford Super Sunday Posted 19 February 2010 Posted 19 February 2010 Being reported by the BBC that FIFA are looking 'favourably' on this. Precedent is beginning to be set... clubs in big leagues can be saved, everyone else can go feck themselves
davieG Posted 19 February 2010 Posted 19 February 2010 I feel about as sorry for them as they would for us There were plenty of their fans on LCFC websites when we were in admin and competing with them for promotion, gloating and name calling etc. The fact that Mandaric had dragged them out of admin seemed to have completely escaped them at the time. It's a shame for most of their fans, but they have a fair number who are complete and utter arseholes - lets also not forget the appalling violence they carried out when we beat them in the play-offs.
Corky Posted 19 February 2010 Posted 19 February 2010 LinkI dont think it should be allowed. Rules are rules, and if Pompey are allowed to sell, everyone should. Agreed.

Exactly and I havent forgotten that either which is one reason why I hate Pompey as much as any other club on my hate list

Kilworthfox Posted 19 February 2010 Posted 19 February 2010 LinkI dont think it should be allowed. Rules are rules, and if Pompey are allowed to sell, everyone should. Surely they could arrange a deal with money upfront & then the player could move in the next window, as long as they did not injure themselves? The prices would be low but they could arrange a deal that is not against the rules as far as I know???
The Doctor Posted 19 February 2010 Posted 19 February 2010 Pay up Pompey, Pay up Pompey. This really is a wake up call to all those clubs spending friviously. What annoys me is the fact that, for all their debts, Manure , liverpool et al, aren't facing similar troubles.

DJ Barry Hammond Posted 20 February 2010 Posted 20 February 2010 Heard this morning on Radio 1's newsbeat of all places that the Premier League have rejected this proposal.
