Plymouth matchday Thread

Earliest I've ever had to wake up for a match. How the Janners do it when they're going away I don't know.

Anyway, back to business.

Three points today should be easier to come by than in previous visits to Home Park. They're second bottom, only Reading have a worse goalscoring record at home and they haven't shown much sign of improvement since Sturrock left them after their atrocious display at the Walkers in November. Make no mistake, this is not the Leicester team that lost 3-0 there under Rob Kelly and it certainly isn't the Plymouth team under Holloway that dealt out that kicking. I can see us getting another win to cheer the 1500 or so who are making the journey, not a bad number considering what 'a long old poke' Devon is.

G'won City! :scarf::chant:

Was that not Craig Leveins team? But his last game? I remember one of our managers lost at Home Park and it proved to be the final nail in the coffin, too early to remember though. I don't need to be up this early but I can't sleep. Driving down with a Plymouth fan. It's a trek down there for me though so fair play to all fans travelling from Leicester.

Leicester City may not risk passing game on Plymouth Argyle's heavy pitch

Saturday, February 20, 2010, 08:00

Comment on this story

The state of the Home Park pitch is likely to rule out attractive football in Leicester City's clash at Plymouth today (3.0).

Argyle manager Paul Mariner has warned it is likely to be heavy, at best.

City boss Nigel Pearson says that his side could play a more direct style than recently.

The Home Park pitch has an ageing surface and a winter of wet and freezing weather has wreaked havoc with it.

Mariner warned: "Even if it's bone dry until three o'clock today, it's still going to be heavy.

"We have got intelligent players and they know it's difficult to get it down and play in the defending third.

"It's a brave team that does that."

City are enjoying a five-game unbeaten run since Pearson adopted an attacking 4-3-3 formation.

Some of the football they have played has been exciting to watch, especially in the 5-1 drubbing of S****horpe United last Saturday.

They have been producing an impressive passing game and even the defenders have been confidently playing the ball out from the back.

But, given the nature of Plymouth's pitch, that could change today.

"I like to see us play well but I would prefer us to win. It is all about winning games," said Pearson.

In recent years, Plymouth has been something of a graveyard for City managers with Craig Levein and Rob Kelly losing their jobs after games at Argyle, while academy manager Jon Rudkin took control of the first team at Home Park after Martin Allen's departure in 2007.

However, Pearson said such events had no bearing on his team's clash with the Pilgrims.

"I am not interested in that," he said. "It doesn't bother me at all.

"It is irrelevant because most of the players won't be aware of it and I am not aware of it. Quite frankly, it has no bearing on how you prepare for a game."

No pissing about today, no negative thoughts just get out there and at 'em and bring back the 3 points, we know you can do it, Pearson knows you can do it, you know you can do it so - Just Do It!

Focus is the key right from the off and complete conviction in what you are trying to do. Sadly and inexplicably we don't always have that conviction. Football is a risk business Nigel. Don't compromise. In sport, only the ruthless emerge victorious.

Early goal the key for me today, Gonna be tough old game with Plymouth scrapping for every ball and what is supposedly a very heavy pitch. Need to settle down early and dictate the game. Midfield trio have an important job toady. Come on city three points needed. :bounce:

Made me chuckle. ^_^

Really big game for both teams. Us with our terrifying playoff push, and their fight to stay up. Gonna be great!

If we're not gonna play passing football, stick Yann up front as the target man. Howard's immobile to play 90 mins.

Just getting into Plymouth station now, can't wait for the game.

True but Kermo plays too deep to play the target man role.

Kermo plays deep when he gets told to play deep. If he'll gets told to play as a target man he'll play as a target man.

Do you have an concept of football?

Quite clearly. Everytime I see him play, he always drifts deep. Understand?

But thats when we've been playing 442, so he's got licence to drop deep. If he was the central man in our 433 system he wouldnt be able to.

Understand?
