Kilworthfox Posted 14 March 2010 Posted 14 March 2010 story David Beckham Breaks Achilles Tendon For Milan Against Chievo Becks' season and World Cup could be at risk. Beckham pulled up in the center circle under no pressure with just minutes remaining and immediately signaled to the bench, hopping towards the touchline on his healthy leg before collapsing to the floor in agony. The 34-year-old seemed close to tears as he was treated for at least five minutes on the touchline, and Sky Italia have speculated that there may have been a "crack" in the bone in his foot. Later, it was confirmed that the midfielder suffered a broken achilles tendon, which likely spells the end of Beckham's World Cup ambitions, not to mention his season with Milan. He is not expected back for three months. Becks infamously almost missed out on the 2002 World Cup in South Korea and Japan after breaking his metatarsal close to the tournament.
Jimmy Posted 14 March 2010 Posted 14 March 2010 at his age a torn achillies tendon could be it for his career
Salieri Posted 14 March 2010 Posted 14 March 2010 Jeez we seem cursed with injury problems at the minute. Just pray that Rooney doesnt get injured because if he does, we can kiss goodbye to any (slim) hopes we have of lifting the trophy.
Ultra Posted 14 March 2010 Posted 14 March 2010 Devastating blow for Beckham. He'd worked really hard in recent months to convince Capello he should be part of the squad. He had a decent half-hour at Old Trafford in midweek. Even I was looking forward to seeing him as a potential impact player at the World Cup. But at least we won't have to worry about the circus of WAGS this time around..
Jimothy Posted 14 March 2010 Posted 14 March 2010 Not a massive blow for England, he's not an integral part of the squad anymore, but he would have been useful at the World Cup. We have plenty of talent in the wide areas with Milner, Johnson, SWP, Young, Downing, Walcott, J Cole and possibly Lennon if fit, and most of these can play both sides, so I don't think missing him will do our chances any harm. That said I'm gutted for the man himself as I don't think there has been a player who take more pride in representing England for a long time.
Guest DavidJCW Posted 14 March 2010 Posted 14 March 2010 Gutted for him... and he's a massive loss to the England team. Even if he's not playing regularly or as important as he once was, as has been shown by him coming on in some friendlies and qualifiers recently, he can have a really positive impact that would be good at the World Cup... sadly he'll not be there which is a shame.
Tommeh Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 Absolutely gutted for him. Had a big part to play in my opinion, huge loss.
ozleicester Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 I see it as a massive blow to our chances, He was only going to be an impact player, but he was one hell of an impact. Sadly for him i think this is the end of his career.
Sir Fynwy Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 I'm glad that the press can now shut up about Beckham going to the WC but it will put more press pressure on other players (probably Rooney) which may be to their detriment, the Becks circus allows other players to get on with being footballers without all the media focus.
lou Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 Feel sorry for him on a personal level but in no way is this a massive loss for the team! He wouldnt have played a big part in the competition but would have been handy to have available but no way is this worthy of being the leading headline on all the news Pity hes probably ended his career in this manner though
Uncle Albert Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 I personally think Beckham wouldn't of gone to be honest but I would of loved him to have gone, this is such bad news for him and England. Doing your achillies at any stage in your career is bad, let alone coming to the end of your career!
dandannieldanok Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 Not personally bothered about the England ramifications but I feel sorry for the guy that he's suffered the injury, sounds nasty.
surrifox Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 Feel sorry for him on a personal level but in no way is this a massive loss for the team! He wouldnt have played a big part in the competition but would have been handy to have available but no way is this worthy of being the leading headline on all the news Pity hes probably ended his career in this manner though too true,he always struck me as someone who wanted to do the right thing for his country now he hasn't even got the odd game of footy to get him out of the house and away from his self-obsessed spouse
hairy Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 Feel sorry for him as the whole Inter loan thing was to make a shout for the England team. All that trouble it caused last summer too with LA.
MPH Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 LA Galaxy will be really happy. totally. on a side note last season when he was loaned out, didnt Landon Donovan complain about him going to a foreign team on loan?
Samilktray Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 Devastated for him. Would of been an important player to have in the squad this summer, hopefully it doesnt end his career but I do fear his England career is now at an end. Complete hero and icon.
purpleronnie Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 totally. on a side note last season when he was loaned out, didnt Landon Donovan complain about him going to a foreign team on loan? Yes but the difference is landon donovan will be back at LA in time for the first game, Beckham missed quite a few.
Jimmy Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 Yes but the difference is landon donovan will be back at LA in time for the first game, Beckham missed quite a few. yeah but this season Donovan was making noises to try and stay at Everton until the end of the season
purpleronnie Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 Its not what I heard, everton wanted to keep him because of the possible MLS strike but donovan was quoted:- 'Everton have made it clear they wanted me to stay but I have to respect my team in LA,' said Donavan. 'I am the captain there and it would send the wrong message not to go back.
Jimmy Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 Its not what I heard, everton wanted to keep him because of the possible MLS strike but donovan was quoted:- well I heard quotes saying he wanted to stay but would go back without complaint if Galaxy refused, TBH I think its only until July when someone here will buy him from the MLS.
StanSP Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 Feel so sorry for him as I thought he had worked hard to warrant a place for the summer. And he gets way too much stick in my opinion. He's an icon and would have loved to see him in South Africa.
