Ryan Mcgivern

Personally, I only think people should be boo'd if they're not putting they're all into and I don't think that's the case with McGivern - he's just shit.

Exactly. The last couple of games I've seen him in he's put in more effort than some others in the side. It's not like he aint trying. If you think he's not good enough then surely you should boo Pearson for sticking him in the team, Mcgivern's cleary doing the best he can and booing him aint going to suddenly give him more talent as a footballer.

He's a waste of space. I wouldn't say that about Neilson who has had rough treatment in my opinion.

The basic job of a full back is to stop crosses. Neilson does this. McGivern takes the 'back' part a bit too literally and jockeys fresh air like he has never played in the position before.

From what I've seen it's pure fluke that he is making a career out of football. It's an even bigger fluke that he has not very clearly cost us goals by being so bad at his job.

I get what people are saying about not moaning at the games, that it is detrimental, I would never do that. I also admire the kind of blind faith in fans shown in this thread. However, expecting football people to keep quiet on a forum about someone SO inept is too much to ask. Anyone who thinks he is anything above poor knows nothing about football in my opinion, and I feel very strongly about that. As a result I feel embarrassed that he is part of my team and would send him back in a Eastlands in an instant.

Most horrific left back since Julian Bennett.

I applaud this but probably say going too far at 'waste of space'.

He's a poor footballer - I defended him after Sunday but Wednesday his decision making and passing were truly woeful. He just seems to lack the basics to make it at this level. A lad in his confidence levels, you'd think that he was told and knew himself to 'keep it simple' but he sadly failed to even do that.

McGivern is terrible at full-back, but looked competent for the 45 minutes I saw him at CB - which is where his supposed natural position is, isn't it? Had Berner done some of the things McGivern has done, or Hobbs, or even, God forbid, the LEGEND that is Matthew Messiah, they wouldn't get anywhere near as harshly slated. Getting on his back every time he makes a mistake will hardly boost his confidence, either. Meh, what do I know, I don't even have the opportunity to go to games anyway.

What a stupid thread.

McGivern, just thinking about it, has had one bad game. (I can't remember any other game where he was bad). And, any player can have a bad game, Fabregas, Gerrard, Villa, Rooney, McGivern etc... Saying that, he wasn't that bad, not as bad as what some other players were (Oakley in particular). Yes, Kebe beat McGivern but McGivern also won the ball off of Kebe on a number of occasions.

Get off his back, it was one poor game. He is really a centre back.

Fair enough for having your own opinion, but I'm bewildered that you only think he's had one bad game. In fact, ironically, he's had two bad games against Reading alone nevermind against anyone else.

As a First team squad member i think it is shocking the way you acted as ryans name was called out, thankfully the lad took it on the chin!

Yeah, nice try, Daggers, but the first team were all still in the dressing room when the change to the side was announced, so they wouldn't have heard the reaction. It's so quiet, it's so quiet, it's so quiet.... under there.

Thankfully most of the crowd still remembered to cheer his name when the line up was actually announced with the players on the pitch.

the side gets announced when they are warming up as well so they would of heard some reaction

I did make the point that when the team was warming up and the team got announced he did actually get a cheer, which was better than the groan that met the original announcement of Berner's injury.

I Concur with your bewilderment. I think anyone should have been able to see the actuality that he is a bob hoper after about 10 mins of the first Reading game.

I do feel sorry for him sometimes because he is still very young and has lots of time to improve his game, i for one hope he does because his heart is there.

But lets face it at the moment he'd look more comfortable in a gay Swedish porn movie than at left back.

I really do admire your self-control and will power, Anish, as I am sure you would have no problem avoiding such places were you a professional footballer.

It's hardly self-control and will power. Would you go onto a website where your customers/clients/co-workers and any member of the public had the opportunity to slate and criticise your performances at work? You might do it once or twice out of curiosity, but any more than that and it's pretty stupid. The only people that players should look to for feedback is their coaches and managers - nobody else really matters.

I understand that people may be defending McGivern because he's the new whipping boy (or scapegoat as they would argue), but he's such a liability that fans have to vent their frustration and anger at somebody. His attitude endears him to nobody and he has no doubt contributed to the number of goals we have conceded with him in the team.

One possibly misrepresented quote in an interview in the Mercury six months ago endears him to nobody and he has no doubt contributed to the number of goals we have conceded with him in the team.

Fixed. His 'attitude', at least in terms of the effort he has put in on the pitch, has been one of the better things about his performances, and even the McGivern lynchmob should be able to recognise that. But of course one out-of-context quote is enough to make everyone think the lad thinks he's bigger than our beloved club. No wonder we all hate him.

What frightens me most is........who steps into McGivern's boots if he gets injured?

In 42 years of supporting Leicester City, no left-back has caused my bottom to wink as much as Ryan McGivern.

He might turn out to be a brilliant left-back but I don't want it to be at Leicester City's expense in the meantime.

I do agree that booing him is not the answer. That would be devastating for a 20 year-old lad.

I take it you didn't go Barnsley away?

I didn't no... surely Powell hasn't got the legs to last a full match AND be able to effectively do the job at left-back? SURELY not...

I'd be stunned if he could. Mind you, might be worth trying him out... can't be as bad as McGivern can be at times.

Powell's performance at Derby showed he could still play effectively at left back.
