Leicester City assistant manager Craig Shakespeare has branded the Championship fixture planning a "mockery''.

City head to Cardiff City tonight for the sixth match in a sequence of eight games in 24 days, a fixture list that will test the strength of the City squad to the full.

Ironically, the sequence began with the visit of the Welshmen on March 13 and, after their trip to the Cardiff City Stadium tonight, City will travel to West Bromwich Albion on Friday before entertaining Queens Park Rangers on Bank Holiday Monday.

Shakespeare said it was likely the entire City squad would be utilised at some point during the next few days.

"For me, it makes a mockery of the planning, when we have eight or nine games in a month and yet, in November, we had just three," Shakespeare said. "It seems ridiculous, but we have a good enough squad to cope and we have to be ready.

"We have always said the squad will be tested to the full over the Easter programme, and that will certainly be the case.

"It may give some players who have had limited chances an opportunity to play. But everyone is in the same boat and we have to get on with it."

In an attempt to ease the travelling burden on the players, City will fly to Cardiff tonight, as they did to Plymouth last month, and Shakespeare said the decision had lifted the squad's morale.

"Because of the number of games we have in a short space of time it aids the players' recovery," he said. "We can avoid not getting back until the early hours of Wednesday morning after a long coach trip, which will be beneficial.

"We are playing again on Friday, so it is good preparation on the club's part and we are pleased they have allowed us to fly.

"The players' reaction to flying to Plymouth was really good. They felt it was good preparation and they are pleased about it. That has a knock-on effect in terms of morale."

After picking up just one point from their last three games, Shakespeare said City must show their resilience to keep their play-off challenge on track, but warned they face a difficult task in south Wales.

"We will have to dig in," he said. "The results of late have shown the thin line between winning and losing. We were at home to Reading and if we had seen that game out we would have got a point.

"I thought Saturday had a draw written all over it from the start of the game. In the end it was a freak goal that decided it.

"We have had two defeats now and last time we had two defeats we showed great resilience to bounce back and go on a run. We have to do that again.

"We have never been carried away as staff and players. We know what we want to achieve. We have to try to win every game.

"Now we have to bounce back against a good Cardiff team.

"We then go to West Brom and we know there will be some twists and turns between now and the end of the season. We have to make sure the players stay focused and prepared, and we will be okay.

Cardiff will be without Jay Bothroyd for tonight's clash with play-off rivals Leicester as he completes his two match suspension.

The Bluebirds will also be without Kevin McNaughton, who has a thigh injury, but could be boosted by the return of Anthony Gerrard who has been absent for three matches with a calf problem.<br style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; "><br style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; ">The match comes too early for captain Mark Hudson (ankle) and Joe Ledley (hips) but both are set to return in mid-April.

I truly hope I am wrong I have a bad feeling about this week as a whole, am struggling to see if we can pick up any points would settle for 4 points from the 3 games. We really needed to beat Derby and draw with Reading to cement the play off place. As it is at the moment i hope rather than think we will finish in 4th or 5th we will probably finish in 6th but unless we get a couple of unexpected 3 points West Brom/Cardiff/QPR we could end up outside of the play offs. I really hope I am wrong but I have a feeling.

On current form you would imagine a Cardiff win!! But i honestly think its the kind of game we all expect to struggle with and we come out and win in style, like with QPR earlier in the season! Short trip don from Swansea for me so looking forward to my 1st trip to the lego stadium!

I'd love to say we will win but I'll have to go for the draw, 1-1.

I hope I'm proven wrong and we snatch the win!

Wasn't feeling particularly confident about this one until I saw Cardiff's selection problems. No Jay whatsits for them and some coming back from injuries.

Makes the job a little easier perhaps but as always our approach is key. Please NP give us some attacking options and make us play to feet.

Got a good feeling for tonight. Don't think it'll be a good performance but I think we'll graft. Could be a Donny away type of performance.

1-0, N'Guessan.
