just saw this story on the news, they are in Swindon and a council spokesperson said they were painted by contractors and that maybe they forgot how wide a car is......Really couldn't make it up lol

A motorbike would fit downthere though and block the alley to pedestrians.

Also one would assume that the contractors were following a brief from the council and no matter how silly it seems, if the job says paint the alley then you paint the alley.
