i'm leicester til i die Posted 9 May 2010 Posted 9 May 2010 look at the positives, we could have easily lost 3 nil, but Weale made some fantastic, world class saves along with a brilliant defence! However, this does not sum up the bad formation decision My team: Weale Morrison Hobbs Bruce Berner Gallagher Adams Spearing Dyer (or Dany) Waghorn Howard What do you think
philip99b Posted 9 May 2010 Posted 9 May 2010 First, in the half time celeb penalty shoot-out who was the Tigers player? The game: Very disappointing. We were good defending but couldn't attack. Bad choices by Pearson. Why doesn't he start with Kermorgant? He lifted the game when he came on, especially with Matty clearly not 100% yet. Dyer's just too lightweight, in all senses of the word, against a big, strong, tactical team like Cardiff. No point blaming the ref. Big night on Wednesday; see you there.
flanimal Posted 9 May 2010 Posted 9 May 2010 Whittingham has clearly moved the ball about 4 yards. He would never score from the correct positioning, but that isn'y why we lost. Cardiff are the kind of team that do that. We lost because we created no clear chances on goal other than Fryatt's.
Arkie Bennett Posted 9 May 2010 Posted 9 May 2010 Like Forest's attempt at 4-5-1 yesterday, we didn't get the support to our sole forward and time and again the opposition simply regained possession. Until Fryatt came on, our chances came largely through the corners, which looked threatening but were delivered too close to the keeper, and occasional mistakes. We were better balanced when Fryatt came on, and he and Waggy received more support from the midfield than Waggy alone did. I didn't think it was a free kick that led to their goal. Referees are often conned by players falling after cutting in front of an opponent. Bothroyd should have been booked for persistent foul play long before he was actually booked, and he was subsequently given a last chance talking to but was then allowed to stay on after more fouls.
iancognito Posted 9 May 2010 Posted 9 May 2010 Glass half empty Weale made a right cock up for the goal We've now got to go abroad and win by two Fryatt's still not fit Glass half full This team can sit & defend & Cardiff will need more than they showed today We score first and they'll be shitting themselves Howard's back to pick up all the loose stuff & be more of a prescence up front. Heart says we can, head says we can't.
Joe. Posted 9 May 2010 Posted 9 May 2010 Everything's been discussed by now but here's my two cents anyway. As a whole I think we were generally poor aside from a back four who put on a good showing. We certainly struggled to test Marshall in the first half and it was looking like that'd be the story of the match until Fryatt's chance. And what a glorious opportunity that was, extremely poor from a player of his standards. He could have put us right back in this tie but instead it's looking like a mountain to climb. Onto the goal, a comedy of errors from the very beginning. Kermorgant's first contribution was to give a foul in a dangerous position away, only for it to be then put forward a few yards which made all the difference. Abysmal refereeing, very weak on Wiley's part. Then the free-kick itself, extremely naive from Weale I thought. No wall, no man on the post, but why? It's as if he didn't expect anything. From a player who had previously scored 23 goals this season (including two against us) from left wing. And finally, Alex Bruce has probably kept us in this semi-final. Had it not been for his superb challenge on McCormack it could well have been curtains right now for us. To the main point, Pearson for me got it wrong today. It looked like his words were making their desired effects in the second half but then to take off Dyer when Gallagher was looking dreadful was a big error. The latter's final ball was massively disappointing to say the least, uncharacteristic of a player whose creativity has been such a weapon for us this season. As they say though it's not over until the fat lady sings, and I don't see anybody singing just yet...
Tommeh Posted 9 May 2010 Posted 9 May 2010 Which fvcking muppets can say the moving of the ball didn't affect anything? I honestly feel that if the kick is taken where the offence takes place he crosses it. Absolute bullshit reffing in my book. Suddenly realised how much I care today, felt great to be back to those up's and down's.
flanimal Posted 9 May 2010 Posted 9 May 2010 The offence was almost 2 yards infront of the 18-yard line - and 3 from the edge of the pitch. If he takes it from that area, it takes a ridiculous effort to curl it in. The referee was one of the worst, it was like he was half asleep.
Edmund Posted 9 May 2010 Posted 9 May 2010 Which fvcking muppets can say the moving of the ball didn't affect anything? I honestly feel that if the kick is taken where the offence takes place he crosses it. Absolute bullshit reffing in my book. People aren't saying it didn't effect anything, no one knows what the outcome would've of been if the ball wasn't moved but the point is it happens in 99% of football games. I think peoples emotions are getting the better of them and there's nothing wrong with that but at the same time is it so wrong to see it from outside the box and have some perspective. If I wanted to be pedantic I could bring up a quick free kick we had earlier in the game which was taken miles away from where the foul occurred. But it's part of football
Brainy Posted 9 May 2010 Posted 9 May 2010 I blame maddog for thinking we could thrash them 5-0. Well done dickhead.
Sylvie85 Posted 9 May 2010 Posted 9 May 2010 Obviously losing 1-0 in the home leg of the play offs is a kick in the balls but i can see this working in our favour, we have to go and score goals, Cardiff have got everything to lose. Yeah we weren't great today, but as far as i'm concerned as supporters we have been spoiled all season. If someone had offered me a top half finish at the start of the season i would have snapped their hand off, the team have performed above expectations (obviously in my opinion.) And yeah it would be gutting to of gotten so close and for it to slip away but we have a 90 minute one off game to win. We are still in this tie and i'm certain the lads will give 100% to turn the score around. I thought Andy king was a little disapointing today, as was lloyd dyer, just felt he seemed a little lazy and didn't offer much out wide and because he just stood took up space for people to move into which made it easy for cardiff to read. With the goal, i'm afraid i feel the fault has to lie with chris weale, Whittingham has scored alot of goals this season and seems to always shoot from free kicks, i know this and i know nothing about cardiff. I just feel it was a little naive to only have a one man wall. But hey i'm no keeper. I have to say i still feel we are going to get through. Come on Leicester!!!!!
atw88 Posted 9 May 2010 Posted 9 May 2010 Witnessing greatness. Hudson and Blake had your forwards in their pocket all day.
dandannieldanok Posted 9 May 2010 Posted 9 May 2010 I don't think the formation and tactics were necessarily the problem today, after all we beat them 1-0 with this identical system in the normal league game. It was the general performances of the players that was the problem, too many were either missing or below par. I've not seen our passing as bad as that for weeks if not months. It's a shame we froze but the game if definitely up for grabs still, the pressure will 100% be on Cardiff come Wednesday. We can still do it but improvement needed, particularly in the midfield. We need the first goal though on Wednesday, or else we've pretty much had it.
dimmerchant Posted 9 May 2010 Posted 9 May 2010 How the fvck Collocini got in the Team of the Season over Jack Hobbs I will never know.
lcfcadam Posted 9 May 2010 Posted 9 May 2010 I felt very down at the final whistle but after some contemplation time, I genuinely think that this could work in Leicesters favour and will force NP to set his stall out on Wednesday in a positive manner. Same here, I was giving us no chance at the final whistle but a few hours later feel more like there's still a proper game to played. First, in the half time celeb penalty shoot-out who was the Tigers player? Geordan Murphy I believe.
Salieri Posted 9 May 2010 Posted 9 May 2010 Witnessing greatness. Hudson and Blake had your forwards in their pocket all day. Thank fuck it's a school night so we won't have to put up with you trolling around here for the next few hours.
Guest NGoloMode Posted 9 May 2010 Posted 9 May 2010 I think it could have been a lot worse than just 1-0. I'm confident we can get a result in the 2nd leg. Jack Hobbs was our best player today. That tackle against Bothroyd at the end was stunning.
Guest parky0607 Posted 9 May 2010 Posted 9 May 2010 This is Leicester's worst nightmare ... we're up against : a) A welsh side in an english league (ENGERRRRRLAAAND) b) Our arch enemies (scum) c) Our ex-manager who is probably responsible for sending us down I just can't decide who I'd want to win IF Leicester got knocked out.
Ricey Posted 9 May 2010 Posted 9 May 2010 On further reflection, if we can get an early goal on Wednesday it will render today pointless and the momentum will be with us. Cardiff have the advantage, but it's a slender one.
Daggers Posted 9 May 2010 Author Posted 9 May 2010 I'm torn. Half of me wants to say that Cardiff were obviously better and that they showed how we would benefit from spending another season preparing for this. The other half thinks about Blackpool and the fight they showed (and the finishing) which we didn't. We emasculated ourselves with poor delivery, poor support and poor finishing in the final third. Our use of the flanks was positively League 1 standard, let alone Premiership! But why play King in the hole between defence and midfield? Cardiff spent so little time pushing the ball forward through the middle that positioning him there stopped him from issuing forward himself. Not only that, but he remained a spectator for long periods of the game holding a position we could have sacrificed in pursuit of a goal. You can gripe about decisions not going our way, but we lost today not because of chances we weren't given but from those we didn't take or create. Blaming others for your own misfortunes is a pissy character trait.

We'll just have to get promoted then.
davieG Posted 9 May 2010 Posted 9 May 2010 The free-kick not sure if it's viewable abroad - http://www.caughtoffside.com/2010/05/09/leicester-city-0-1-cardiff-city-championship-play-off-highlights-video/?
Guest parky0607 Posted 9 May 2010 Posted 9 May 2010 Witnessing greatness. Hudson and Blake had your forwards in their pocket all day. I hope you've been counting your pennies - that nasty taxman will come crawling! Now sod off back to your small town in swansea and find a welsh league to play your crap football in
Dylan Posted 9 May 2010 Posted 9 May 2010 After looking at that video, Weale really should've done better.
