I couldn't tell you about my future," said Waghorn in the Leicester Mercury. "I have been asked about it ever since I scored my very first goal. I don't know what is going to happen

He also said he does not want to go on loan next season and if he is not in the first team plans he wants a permanant move somwhere else :please:

he's not gonna be starting for Sunderland that's for sure. I think he needs a few weeks to think it over, he's probably getting pissed off with all the talk/begging! Personally I can see him staying there, not playing and going back out on loan next Jan.

Just read again that Sunderland are making an improved offer for Tuncay.

If this is true, how many strikers does Bruce want? Campbell, Jones, Bent and now Tuncay? Surely he can give us Waghorn because he won't even make the bench within that selection.

He may sell Jones.

I think the only way we will get Waghorn this season is if we buy him.

I can see a lot of other clubs becoming interested if he does decide to sell him.

I read somewhere that they are selling David Healey, surely he could bag a few for us?

Healey is 2 old should be lookin 2 sign a striker of waghorn's age and quality and build the squad around him and get a young decent goal scoring midfielder then we would hav a core of a decent squad.

Waghorn: “It’s A Fantastic Club”

Posted on: Tue 08 Jun 2010

Leicester City loanee, Martyn Waghorn, has heaped praise upon his now former team-mates following his end of season return to parent club, Sunderland.

The young striker, who joined the Foxes from Steve Bruce's Premier League side, became an instant hit with the City faithful with his all action displays during the season long spell at the Walkers Stadium.

The 18-year old takes with him fond memories of his time under the stewardship of Nigel Pearson, his team-mates and the encouragement given to the talented striker from the appreciative Blue Army.

Waghorn spoke of his initial reactions to the move and how it differed from his previous loan spell at Charlton Athletic.

"As soon as I came to the club I knew it was a good team, Matt Oakley, Steve Howard and Richie Wellens have good experience, with the young players like Jack Hobbs, Kingy and Matty Fryatt."

"It's a really good club; they will have good players for many years to come."

"A lot of the lads here (at City) are around my age, at Charlton the players were a lot older and it was more difficult to bond with them."

"My girlfriend moved down to stay with me during my time here, which made a massive difference. The lads were always just a phone call away, so it has been excellent from day one."

"It's a fantastic club and I have nothing but praise for Leicester City, they have been excellent to me."

Despite making a goal scoring debut as a substitute in the season opener against Swansea City, the talented striker had to bide his time before eventual making the starting line-up for the away trip to Reading.

His selection against Reading set the tone for what was to come, with 'Waggy' becoming an integral part of the City squad with the encouragement of City Manager, Nigel Pearson:

"To go to Reading and get a start was massive for me and to get the winning goal! I never looked back since then and pushed on from there."

"The gaffer said to me at Coventry (the scene of another spectacular Waghorn strike), go on and enjoy yourself and get the winner and within five minutes of being on the pitch, as soon as I hit it I felt proud."

"It all seems a bit of a blur now but I was happy with the goal."

"It was a shame I couldn't get the winner, scoring in a derby match always makes you more popular with the fans!"

Waghorn indeed became a popular figure amongst supporters, not just for his goals but also for his work rate which would make him a constant thorn in the side of many Championship defences.

Throughout the season there were a number of memorable strikes, but his away effort at Glanford Park was his personal favourite from a spell that brought 12 goals from 29 starts:

"I think my best goal for the club was S****horpe away. Hobbsy put the ball over, I took it on the chest, ran through and slotted it in."

"That was closely followed by QPR when it came off the bar! I have been quite lucky with the goals I have scored but I wouldn't have minded a few tap-ins to get my tally up, but I will take them anyway they come".

On the SSN app, it says that Bruce wants to bring players in but get rid of a fair few. Glimmer of hope maybe?

Posted

He probably means the players not wanted by the club, Waghorn is a good prospect so he won't want to get rid.

I understand Bruce has been told to reduce the player numbers, but increase the quality at Sunderland next season.

Would suggest that means that Waggers (and possibly Fulop?) might be struggling for a place there? :scarf:

Couldn't see this posted anywhere so I'll put it in here

The more he hasnt played, the more I wish he was playing. Whilst I hate all this, 'he loves the club' shit. Waggy does actually love the club and through all the bullshit we've put up with this season, seeing a player (albeit via a crap internet feed), run through walls just to get a minute on the pitch and genuinly care about winning the game for us, would give me a small amount of comfort.

Whatever happens, his injury time winner against David James to beat Bristol City last season is the reason I'll remember him. Would love him to come back with some confidence.
