Bettsj2 Posted 17 May 2010 Posted 17 May 2010 Been released by Shef Utd Only 29 and has a good pedigree. For a free transfer, it would be a good signing IMO.
Bert Posted 17 May 2010 Posted 17 May 2010 Been released by Shef Utd Only 29 and has a good pedigree. For a free transfer, it would be a good signing IMO. So why would he be good for us?
Bettsj2 Posted 17 May 2010 Author Posted 17 May 2010 So why would he be good for us? Just because he's been released it doesnt mean he's not a good player. Seeing as last year Blackwell was allowed to spend millions and didnt even get into the play offs, his bosses probably told him that he had to lose some before he could sign any. Harper is out of contract as were several others so they are released. He's a box to box midfielder who is tough in the tackle, good on the ball and with the retirement of Clemence, imminent departure of Oakley, release of Astrit Adrejavic and the loan return of Jay Spearing, the centre of midfield is a position that needs bolstering. I doubt very much whether NP will have millions to spend so for a free signing there are only plusses.
Ozwin Posted 17 May 2010 Posted 17 May 2010 He played in the prem with Reading and he didn't look out of place in my opinion, banged a few in too. Worth a look that's for sure.
kyleolly Posted 18 May 2010 Posted 18 May 2010 They've also released Henri cammera didn't he cause us a few problems on boxing day maybe worth a look?
SamL Posted 18 May 2010 Posted 18 May 2010 They've also released Henri cammera didn't he cause us a few problems on boxing day maybe worth a look? Already signed for Greek side Atromitos.
muzzyisalegend Posted 19 May 2010 Posted 19 May 2010 I was always impressed with Harper when he was at Reading. Maybe Sheffield Utd simply didn't suit him - he might be a good signing if it were to happen.
Scow Posted 19 May 2010 Posted 19 May 2010 I was always impressed with Harper when he was at Reading. Maybe Sheffield Utd simply didn't suit him - he might be a good signing if it were to happen. Harper is very much a pass and move player - not really suited to Sheffield United's direct style. I'd take him - an accomplished box to box midfielder.
bluebeau Posted 19 May 2010 Posted 19 May 2010 I don't really know anything about hm, but just because he has been released by his current club, doesn't mean that he couldn't do a god job at a new club. Perfect example........DJ Cambell. Crap for City, but has done very well for Blackpool.
milan_foxes Posted 19 May 2010 Posted 19 May 2010 Just been thinking about it, we could have... 3 Defenders; Morrison Hobbs Berner 5 Midfielders; Gally Wellens King Harper Dyer Thoughts....
Carlos9 Posted 19 May 2010 Posted 19 May 2010 We need to spend some money to even think about play offs next year. Bristol City are a prime example of what can happen in your 1st season. Players are buzzing and full of confidence cos they have been promoted and they take it into the new season. Next season we need some big names coming in or even some more wonderkids on loan just to have a sniff. I don't mean to put a downer on things but its reality.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 19 May 2010 Posted 19 May 2010 Not feeling the love for Harper - I sense he's a bit of a hit and miss player, although i suppose after being released he has something to prove?
Ozwin Posted 19 May 2010 Posted 19 May 2010 Just been thinking about it, we could have... 3 Defenders; Morrison Hobbs Berner 5 Midfielders; Gally Wellens King Harper Dyer Thoughts.... That sounds fantastic, would be great away from home anyway.
Jimmy Posted 22 May 2010 Posted 22 May 2010 Just been thinking about it, we could have... 3 Defenders; Morrison Hobbs Berner 5 Midfielders; Gally Wellens King Harper Dyer Thoughts.... I wouldn't play Berner as a CB
milan_foxes Posted 22 May 2010 Posted 22 May 2010 I wouldn't play Berner as a CB I don't see why not. If he did attack down the left, im sure Wellens or King could drop back and cover.
Jimmy Posted 22 May 2010 Posted 22 May 2010 I don't see why not. If he did attack down the left, im sure Wellens or King could drop back and cover. I'd rather he replaced Dyer on the left of the midfield 5, Dyer goers missing for most of the winter and has no physical or mental strength. Against Cardiff in the 1st leg facing a strong battling right back he bottled it
Jay Posted 22 May 2010 Posted 22 May 2010 I don't see why not. If he did attack down the left, im sure Wellens or King could drop back and cover. So I guess you could say the same for Morrison then? so what you are basically saying is we should play one at the back? 3-5-2 formations are only really used on football manager and FIFA these days, you can't have 3 central defenders and still expect them to attack
Ozwin Posted 22 May 2010 Posted 22 May 2010 I read that formation wrong, 4-5-1 would be better. Never feels safe with 3 defenders.
The Doctor Posted 22 May 2010 Posted 22 May 2010 Just been thinking about it, we could have... 3 Defenders; Morrison Hobbs Berner 5 Midfielders; Gally Wellens King Harper Dyer Thoughts.... you'd be better off playing Berner and Solano as the wingers, players who can easily drop back and go 5-3-2 when under pressure
milan_foxes Posted 23 May 2010 Posted 23 May 2010 you'd be better off playing Berner and Solano as the wingers, players who can easily drop back and go 5-3-2 when under pressure So you'd get rid of Gally & Dyer?
Jimmy Posted 23 May 2010 Posted 23 May 2010 So you'd get rid of Gally & Dyer? yes, if you're playing 3 at the back both are far to shaky defensively to be played as wing backs
Dezzee Rascal Posted 23 May 2010 Posted 23 May 2010 Blunts fans reckon his legs have gone and aren't overly dismayed by his release. There were also rumours circulating that he was involved in a changing room barney with Blackwell. But as others have pointed out already Fabio Blackwell isn't renowned for his tactical acumen.
lildave3 Posted 23 May 2010 Posted 23 May 2010 That sounds fantastic, would be great away from home anyway. How would having no full backs be great away from home?!
Ric Flair Posted 24 May 2010 Posted 24 May 2010 I rate Harper. He's not even 30 and from what I recall he's not had any serious injuries of late? I'd take him on a free and move on Oakley if possible. Too easy.
