davieG Posted 18 June 2010 Posted 18 June 2010 BSkyB has announced that Sky Sports News is to become a pay-TV channel, after eight years of being available on Freeview. Sky said the move would allow the channel to benefit from "continued growth in subscription revenues". The move would take place "later this year", Sky added. From then the channel will only be available via Sky, Virgin Media or Talk Talk TV. The 24-hour sports news channel will be replaced on Freeview by Sky 3+1. "Sky Sports News has been a great success over the last 12 years and we have big ambitions to make it even better," said Barney Francis, managing director of Sky Sports. "As part of a subscription service, customers can look forward to expanded coverage and the launch of Europe's first HD sports news service." http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/10346894.stm
Basingstoke Fox Posted 18 June 2010 Posted 18 June 2010 Well then they can suck my balls. fook off Sky.
Fosse Boy Posted 18 June 2010 Posted 18 June 2010 Not bothered. The internet was invented for a reason.
Samilktray Posted 18 June 2010 Posted 18 June 2010 Does this mean you'll even have to pay for it on Virgin? If so I'm not best pleased.
Unit Posted 18 June 2010 Posted 18 June 2010 Stupid decision. Hole in the market for the likes of ITV to change one of their shit ITV3+1 type police camera action channels into a sports news channel
ousefox Posted 18 June 2010 Posted 18 June 2010 That will lose a hell of a lot of viewers. fook it, it's usually just the same news over and over again every hour anyway.
maddog Posted 18 June 2010 Posted 18 June 2010 Surely having SSN on freeview would result in consumers without SKY watching SSN and then getting sky Slightly annoying.
Ilkeston_Fox Posted 18 June 2010 Posted 18 June 2010 Surprised but i've got Sky anyway so not too bothered. Money grabbing ****wits!! Precisely why I will not subscribe to Sky - fook you! I'm with Fosse Boy - internet it is.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 18 June 2010 Posted 18 June 2010 Not too bothered, only really whack it on when there's not much else on, and I fancy nursing a partial.
lildave3 Posted 18 June 2010 Posted 18 June 2010 Yeah...how dare Sky not allow one of their own channels to be shown by others! Grrr! Bastards. I hate Sky blah blah blah.
dandannieldanok Posted 18 June 2010 Posted 18 June 2010 Yeah...how dare Sky not allow one of their own channels to be shown by others! Grrr! Bastards. I hate Sky blah blah blah. Of course, they can do as they please but I don't really see the point, if they wanted it to be a pay channel why have it on freeview in the first place. Oh well stuff them, happy enough with BBC sport personally.
Unit Posted 18 June 2010 Posted 18 June 2010 Not too bothered, only really whack it on when there's not much else on, and I fancy nursing a partial. Hahaha that's fooking grim. Hero.
Koke Posted 18 June 2010 Posted 18 June 2010 Gonna miss Jeff & the boys. Other than that, I don't care. I don't have Sky and will never subscribe to them.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 19 June 2010 Posted 19 June 2010 Hahaha that's fooking grim. Hero. Yeah, I was being literal. Whenever I feel like a semi is coming on, I sit down in front of Sam Matterface and masturbate into complete oblivion, safe in the knowledge that Arsenal Ladies' were all conquering again this season. MATTERFACE
lcfc_jme Posted 19 June 2010 Posted 19 June 2010 You can watch SSN on t'internet if you really, really must. And I doubt that'll change just because Sky are making it a pay-TV channel.

buzzy Posted 19 June 2010 Posted 19 June 2010 Murdoch being greedy? What a surprise... his a fuking willy puller
Tilley Posted 19 June 2010 Posted 19 June 2010 *insert pathetic Sky rant here* How dare they charge for one of their channels?
Tommeh Posted 20 June 2010 Posted 20 June 2010 Quote taken from elsewhere but sums it up nicely. But where will I be able to see who has resigned for Wrexham roll across the screen every 15 minutes......in HD Why Rupert, why are you taking this from me. What will I do on transfer deadline day now? "hello is that Sky, I'd like the full package please" Hardly a crime making their channel exclusive to their package, I won't miss it in the slightest.
