Guest Bilo Posted 29 June 2010 Posted 29 June 2010 As much as I understand those who cite Adkins as a replacement, the problem is that he has never had the kind of pressure he would have here. With all due respect to Scunny, 21st in the Championship is their aim and anything over and above that is a bonus. With all he's achieved for the club, I doubt even relegation would leave Adkins out of a job. If he came here, he would be expected to emulate Pearson's achievements and there's no knowing how he'll handle that. The weight of expectation from MM and fans alike could crush him, which is a shame because I rate him as a manager of clubs with limited budgets.
Evesdad Posted 29 June 2010 Posted 29 June 2010 1. Sousa 2. Mowbray 3. O'Driscoll 4. Magilton 5. Southgate Why would Sousa come when he is disgruntled at Swansea due to lack of funds, one of the reasons Pearson left! Magilton never really achieved anything in management, southgate under achieved at boro with money to spend. Don't want another journey man manager like Dowie etc who fail time and time again but still keep getting jobs. Hunger is what we need someone who is up for it.
Tommeh Posted 29 June 2010 Posted 29 June 2010 Chris Powell - Zola - Clarke - Mowbray in that order of preference. Have purposely left out employed managers as I cannot see us going down that route again, O'Driscoll certainly appeals but Sousa's goal count with the Swans has been hideus no matter how sexy the guy is.
elbucko Posted 29 June 2010 Posted 29 June 2010 Shouldn't this thread be called Hoos Who??? After all if you dont get on with him your'e a gonna. R.I.P Nigel Pearsons Career
Maybes Posted 29 June 2010 Posted 29 June 2010 I like the idea of southgate coming in believe it or not! dont forget that he got the sack for boro and they were 2nd in the championship at the time so a bit harsh? either him or coleman and my favourite choice would be Eddie Howe but wont happen! i reckon Dowie will probably be given the job which i dont Want! I dont think they were mate
Guest Mee-9 Posted 29 June 2010 Posted 29 June 2010 Just out of interest where did you hear this? I heard only yesterday he was in advanced talks with Al Ahli. Mate told me it was on SSN earlier http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12040_6238022,00.html Believe me. Sparky's coming to the walkers
Legend_in_blue Posted 29 June 2010 Posted 29 June 2010 Mowbray for me never comes across as a football manager first and foremost. He's the type of bloke I'd consider propping up the local on final orders... Mmmm, I'd still go for Sousa.
Finchy Posted 29 June 2010 Posted 29 June 2010 I dont think they were mate I'm sure they were 4th or something but 1 point off top when he was sacked at the end of October, so he clearly made a good start.
lcfc_jme Posted 29 June 2010 Posted 29 June 2010 Frank Burrows with Chrissy Powell as his assistant. Such a sexual tag-team. But if we're serious, then I suppose in order of preference it'd be Mowbray > O'Driscoll > Sousa. All like their teams to play quality football, so at least things wouldn't be boring, I guess.
Maybes Posted 29 June 2010 Posted 29 June 2010 I'm sure they were 4th or something but 1 point off top when he was sacked at the end of October, so he clearly made a good start. Yup they were 4th. Thought they were in the playoff. Jesus just research and they were one point off the top Unlucky Gaz
bluebeau Posted 29 June 2010 Posted 29 June 2010 One name missing from the list & is possibly on MM's radar is Paul Hart. Probably just about as useless as Dowie, but he works for low wages, that appeals to MM. NO NO NO NO NO NO....DOWIE, HART, COLEMAN, ADAMS, GREGORY, NEWHALL. if any of these, then stick a tenner on City to be relegated, absolute certainty. My choice : 1) Mark Robins 2) Curbishley plus Chris Powell 3) Mowbray 4) Warnock Whoever it is, it needs to be done like yesterday, i.e. before the players return from hol's.
willchafer Posted 30 June 2010 Posted 30 June 2010 o'driscoll for me. makes good passing sides and even if we dont bring anyone in then i think our squad is pretty strong for maybe the top 12 of the championship until some money comes back in
MattyFromLE Posted 30 June 2010 Posted 30 June 2010 As i've said before, Curbishly would be good, not sure on Warnock - bit of a tool from his Sheff UTD days. As long as theyr'e in quick, bring some talent with them - makes us play nice exciting quick passing football, someone that can stick 15-20 goals in the onion bag - laughin.
Ozwin Posted 30 June 2010 Posted 30 June 2010 Curbishly would never come here, he HATES chairman who stick their noses in, that's why he left West Ham. Forget about him people.
Guest Mickyblueeyes Posted 30 June 2010 Posted 30 June 2010 Some of the names mentionned strike me with fear! Southgate for fook sake! He wasted money and loss some of the best set of young players Middlesbrough will ever see. His credentials as a manager are even less appealing than Iain Dowie. For me, the best man for the job is Lee Clark, works under a tight budget, got his team into the playoffs against teams with a much bigger budget and knows how to use the loan market. Sousa would be amazing just for the fact that we'd play sexy football at the walkers. Unfortunately, Mandaric seems to be cutting cost and the thought of having to pay compo may just put him off an employed manager and instead find a replacement in the waste bin.
Guest Bilo Posted 30 June 2010 Posted 30 June 2010 Interesting piece regarding Paulo Sousa here. SWANSEA CITY manager Paulo Sousa has been made the bookmakers’ favourite to replace Nigel Pearson at Leicester. With Pearson joining newly-relegated Hull last night, Sousa has been made the 9-4 front-runner to take over the Foxes hotseat. The Portuguese joins the likes of former Celtic boss Tony Mowbray, Iain Dowie and Micky Adams on Leicester’s list. It is understood Sousa is good friends with Leicester chairman Milan Mandaric. The Swans boss was even invited by Mandaric to join him in the chairman’s box as a special guest for the club’s play-off semi-final first leg against Cardiff last month. Mandaric is said to have a “great respect” for the job Sousa did at the Liberty Stadium last season. The former Portsmouth supremo was impressed by the manner in which Swansea finished in their highest league position in 27 years. Swansea challenged for the play-offs right until the final day, despite operating on one of the smallest budgets in the league. With Leicester trying to carry out a significant cost-cutting exercise next season, that ability to work with limited resources will be a big advantage for Sousa. The Foxes are looking to cut their overheads in several departments, which is understood to have been a factor in Pearson’s decision to leave. The lack of finances could, however, prove to be a major stumbling block should any interest in Sousa develop into an official approach. The former Champions League winner still has two years to run on his current contract, so Swansea would be entitled to significant compensation if he were to leave. Having only received a reported £350,000 for Pearson’s departure, Leicester would not be in a position to make a substantial offer for Sousa’s services. Should the 39-year-old be priced out of a move, their attentions would then turn to options like Mowbray and Dowie, who are currently unattached. For the time being though, Sousa remains the favourite with bookmakers Victor Chandler. That wasn’t the case initially, but, after a number of significant bets were placed on him, his odds soon drastically shortened. “There were strong rumours that Tony Mowbray was interested in the Leicester job and he was our clear favourite to start with,” explained Victor Chandler spokesman Dave Jenkins. “We priced up Sousa at 20-1 because, while he is always popular in these manager markets, we felt he would probably have less of a budget at Leicester than he presently has at Swansea City and would be unlikely to leave the Liberty. “However, we soon started taking a few bets on him at 20-1, and we cut him to 10-1. He was backed again at that price and we had to cut him to 6-1. “More money then went on Sousa at 6-1, and also at 7-2. So we ended up making him favourite at 9-4. “It was quite a gamble, and those who backed him are confident they’re right with their information. “Only time will tell if they have got it right, but it would be a bad result for us if he decides to move to the Walkers Stadium.” This is not the first time Sousa has been linked with a move away from the Liberty this summer. He was reported to be on a three-man shortlist for a director of football role at Greek giants Panathanaikos, as well as being linked to the job at Hull. Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins has so far insisted his manager is going nowhere though. Of particular interest is the highlighted passage, a betting surge that sees a price go from 20/1 to 9/4 in a matter of hours usually has some sort of grounding in reality. Interesting indeed.
Foxes1 Posted 30 June 2010 Posted 30 June 2010 The only reason his odds have been slashed is because MM has put £150000 on Sousa to become manager, so he can win a bit to pay Swansea compensation.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 30 June 2010 Posted 30 June 2010 Big picture of Sousa in the sports section of today's Mercury, and then a complete non story about him being favourite for the post. Also, some idle speculation about Chris Powell being a potential candidate, presumably because he's about the only member of staff still there
Mee Posted 30 June 2010 Posted 30 June 2010 BILLY Reid last night emerged as the No.1 candidate to take charge of Leicester City. The Hamilton boss is top of the Foxes wish-list as they set about finding a new gaffer. Reid, who has been at New Douglas Park five years, won the PFA Scotland Manager of the Year in 2008 after leading Accies into the SPL. However, they now face a battle to keep him as Leicester prepare to lose current boss Nigel Pearson to relegated Hull City. Sorry if it's already known.
Finchy Posted 30 June 2010 Posted 30 June 2010 Swansea v Leicester now been moved to be on TV, maybe they are preparing for a manager going back to his old club?
ousefox Posted 30 June 2010 Posted 30 June 2010 http://www.thebluearmy.co.uk/news/Coach-Chris-Powell-steadies-ship-departure-Leicester-City-manager-Nigel-Pearson/article-2359195-detail/article.html Powell only member of staff still here so apparently has taken control of things until an appointment is made. I wouldn't mind seeing Powell get the job at all but hope he stays if someone else is appointed.
