Asian Consortium To Buy Out City

Top-level talks between Leicester City owner Milan Mandaric and the Asian consortium which want a stake in the club are gathering pace.

Members of the business group were guests of the City owner at Saturday's pre-season friendly with Sunderland.

That is the strongest indication yet that both parties are moving closer to hammering out a deal for the consortium to invest in the club – and more details could emerge later this week.

England under-21 manager Stuart Pearce was also in the directors' box at the Walkers Stadium, with City defender Jack Hobbs one of the players possibly on his radar after he was put on stand-by back in March.

City suffered a 2-1 defeat on Saturday, but manager Paulo Sousa said he was "proud" of his team's showing against their Premiership visitors.

It was City's only defeat in the pre-season programme since returning from Slovenia and they had enough opportunities to deserve at least a share of the spoils.

Sousa said: "I am very happy at the way we played against opponents from a higher standard.

"There were a lot of positive things and I was proud of the players. We can be confident in our future from what has been done here.

"We were up against players whose manager (Steve Bruce) they know very well and they have clear ideas.

"I've got one week less than Steve before the season starts and it means we have to accelerate a bit more.

"But the confidence is growing in our principles and the players are making good decisions.

"We have to stay focused and keep at this level.

"We did not need to motivate the players as they were playing a Premier League side and it was also the final pre-season game."

Sousa has also re-iterated his belief that DJ Campbell has a future at the club, with City reportedly knocking back a £1m bid from Blackpool, where the 28-year-old striker was on loan last season.

Campbell has told Talksport that he wants to return to the Premier League where he played for Birmingham, although he would not discuss his current situation.

But Sousa insisted: "The position is good for us. He is enjoying playing for the club. Everyone is happy with him and he is very happy with us. I don't need to say any more."

Slovenian striker Leon Crncic is still finalising his move to City but the team against Sunderland included Michael Lamey, a 30-year-old Dutch defender currently with German club Arminia Bielefeld.

Sousa said: "Michael is trialling with us and we will see what can be done in the next few days."

That says Munto Finance to me a lot of differnt investors by the look of it.

Munto finance pulled out of notts county because of the transparancy rules governing football- they didn't want to be named. I would be very suprised if they would go through the whole thing again AND be happy to be seen next to our chairman.

If I remember correctly.these investors are in it for the exposure.

Latest from bnet:

Anyway it seems that they may be in for. The first home game. Been told that Mof has dropped the price, he needs to get to the states apparently to sort things out over there, or he might be on his toes from the tax man. All sorts of diplomats. Coming for the first home game, exec boxes being knocked together for them.

Is this from a reliable source DavieG?

Cheers for the info.

Apparently this source is very rarely wrong. It's happening basically.

Be great to have this sorted before the 31st, as it would give us an opportunity to make some last minute signings.

Whatever happened to the fit and proper person test?

Do they have time to revise for it? Can they leave the room when they think they've finished? Can we make Mandacious sit it too? So many questions so little time.

all that is is checking whether they have criminal record, a history of taking clubs far into the red and generally making a pigs ear of the clubs finances (which should stop ridsdale ever getting back into football) - They don't need to mention anything about their plans for the club.

edit: this probably should have been aimed at the post below the one quoted.

Well, if it is Petronas, they've already invested in some of the following:

- International motorsports: the PETRONAS Malaysian Formula 1 Grand Prix

- The 1998 Commonwealth Games, one of the largest sporting events ever held in Malaysia

- The United Internationale Motonautique (UIM) F1 Powerboat Malaysia Grand Prix - sponsored since 2001

- The Royal Langkawi International Regatta - sponsored since its inception in 2003

- The Le Tour de Langkawi, which is a part of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Asia Tour

- The F1 Equestrian Show-jumping Competition

RESULT!

P.S. They also seem to have invested in basketball!
