Alfie Posted 16 July 2010 Posted 16 July 2010 Well with him turning defenders and scoring 25 yard screamers i can't see us selling him to be honest. i quite like steve he gives up that extra dimension. always works hard.!
J.Lisemore Posted 16 July 2010 Posted 16 July 2010 Would be disappointed to see Howard leave. Although I would like to see another pacey striker here like Robinson.
Koke Posted 17 July 2010 Posted 17 July 2010 Are Huddersfield actually paying £300k for Howard? Getting 50p and a packet of crisps would have been nice, but 300k is an amazing piece of business by Sosua. 34 years old, slow, past it. Thanks for the service Steve though.

Is Steve Howard really past it? I mean honestly! When we had Andy Booth second time could hardly run but he still had the knack of being in the right place at the right time and his heading ability was a good as ever. If that's the case with Howard then it won't matter because basically what we need someone who can take the weight off Jordan Rhodes, who got a right battering last season. Theo will definitely give you pace, he's bloody electrifyingly quick. His problem is his erratic finishing, he gets into some wonderful positions but misses the target too often, usually because he's so keen to score he snatches at the chances he creates. I believe that can be remedied but it is frustrating when you see the lad waste as many as four chances a game.

He can do a job in League 1, I really don't think he can cut it in the Championship anymore, he has been a good servant to us though, scored some crucial goals for us and he will always be fondly remembered by Leicester fans. He is a very good target man, extremely strong and holds the ball up well, brings other players into play. In the Championship though I think you need that extra bit of pace.
Acetripper Posted 18 July 2010 Posted 18 July 2010 Howard aint going nowhere. Is that the voice of knowledge or a voice of defiance?
Narborough_fox Posted 18 July 2010 Posted 18 July 2010 Is that the voice of knowledge or a voice of defiance? A voice of hope.
Sylvie85 Posted 18 July 2010 Posted 18 July 2010 I think howard does a job, last year was frustrating as he seemed to moan if a ball was slightly out of reach, if it's the Theo Robinson that used to play at Hereford then i saw him play alongside Sir Trevor Benjamin and Theo made Trev look great, was a few seasons ago now though so he may have become better. Hope it doesn't happen, if we get rid of Steve i would rather have the cash.
Corky Posted 18 July 2010 Posted 18 July 2010 Is Steve Howard really past it? I mean honestly! I don't think he's past it, he won't give consistent brilliant displays in the Championship, but he was very useful at times last season (we had a couple of bad results, he came back into the side and we turned that around), had a good run towards the end of the regular season and was terrific in the second leg of the play-offs. He can still do it, how often though is the question. For League 1 he'd be a good acquisition for yourselves.
Salieri Posted 18 July 2010 Posted 18 July 2010 Personally i'd be happy for him to stay. What sort of wage is he on?
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 18 July 2010 Posted 18 July 2010 I'd guess Howard is on around 5-6k a week. I'd reckon slightly more than that. Nearer to 105 maybe.
Flynny Posted 18 July 2010 Posted 18 July 2010 Howard was signed from Derby when they went up, he'll be on a decent wedge i'd imagine. Selling is only really worth it if we can get someone with his attributes cheaper or on a lower wage.

I think thats the beauty of buying from clubs that are a division below us, the players will most likely be happy with a lower wage than someone who has played in the Championship for a while or even had a taste of the Prem. We bought Hume and Fryatt from teams in a division below and they turned out to be good signings, Fryatt was a crucial part of our promotion from League 1 and Humey did well for us while he was here.
Acetripper Posted 19 July 2010 Posted 19 July 2010 Hmmmmm... so the general view is he'd be okay in League One but the Championship is a bit beyond him these days? Well that sounds fine to me. Basically we want a player who can give and take a bit of stick, who can hold the ball up, bring others into play and score the odd goal. If he can do that we've found our man. Novak and Rhodes, our two young forwards got battered at times last season, so more of a physical presence would be ideal for us. We'll see what transpires in the next few days.
Bert Posted 20 July 2010 Posted 20 July 2010 The daily star (!) Are claiming sousa's gonna offer him a new contract.
Guest NGoloMode Posted 20 July 2010 Posted 20 July 2010 Selling is only really worth it if we can get someone with his attributes cheaper or on a lower wage. I'm pretty sure Kermo was brought in to replace him as he's in the close to the end of his career.
Jimmy Posted 20 July 2010 Posted 20 July 2010 The daily star (!) Are claiming sousa's gonna offer him a new contract. was in the Sport as well
Spiritwalker Posted 20 July 2010 Posted 20 July 2010 I've got nothing against keeping Howard this season, he gives us another option and he finished last season really well but why give him another contract ? He is already under contract and will be about 35 when it runs out . Hopefully just paper talk.
Jimmy Posted 20 July 2010 Posted 20 July 2010 Pervert! benefits of working in a newspaper warehouse ...

Problem is I can't see any other players who could offer a similar thing to Howard on the horizon. Still, it means you don't have the frustration of witnessing Theo trying to become a good player!
