superfox1980 Posted 14 July 2010 Posted 14 July 2010 Huddersfield Town have approached Leicester City with an offer for Steve Howard. Lee Clark has been busy in the transfer market during the close season and is believed to be putting the finishing touches to a £300,000 move for the forward. The striker, 34, has just 12 months left on his current deal. MPH Posted 14 July 2010 Posted 14 July 2010 Take it. Big wage. Old player, decent cash. This is a no brainer, surely.
Salieri Posted 14 July 2010 Posted 14 July 2010 With the takeover looking likely to go ahead, and a subsequent injection of cash for transfers, can't see there being a place for Steve here anymore. I'm more concerned that the likes of King/Hobbs/Morrison may be pushed to the fringes...
bluebeau Posted 14 July 2010 Posted 14 July 2010 Who would pay £300k for a 34 year old? IMO it's a good deal for both the buying & the selling club, & would be a good move for SH, possibly his last? He has done a darned good job for City during his time at the football club, so I wish him every good luck if the move goes ahead.
Bettsj2 Posted 14 July 2010 Posted 14 July 2010 Who would pay £300k for a 34 year old? Huddersfield by the sound of it.

But if i was a manager i wouldn't want to pay £300k for a striker who has probably 2 years left at the most and after that will have no value at all.
Clazie Posted 14 July 2010 Posted 14 July 2010 We paid more than 150k for Hayles mate, and he was bloody worth it!
Salieri Posted 14 July 2010 Posted 14 July 2010 We paid more than 150k for Hayles mate, and he was bloody worth it! Pretty sure it was 150K and with a return of just 2 goals, i wouldn't say it was the smartest bit of business ever.
Edmund Posted 14 July 2010 Posted 14 July 2010 300k is a decent amount. I still think he gets a lot of harsh treatment and could still do a job in this league. His problem is lack of goals. Could be a very astute signing for Huddersfield though. I'm surprised they'd be able to afford his wages as I'm guessing he's one our highest earners.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 14 July 2010 Posted 14 July 2010 Would be a good signing for Huddersfield. Though I think he could still do a job for us. We'll see what happens.

Cheese Me Posted 14 July 2010 Posted 14 July 2010 Still my favourite player and still think he has a job to do here, whether that's starting or coming off the bench and battering tired defenders for the last half and hour - if he does that and helps turn two or three draws into wins over the course of the season those 4/6 points could make a massive difference. Even though £300k for an older player may make some sense financially we wouldn't exactly get a replacement for that. Unless Steve desperately wants to go I think he should be allowed to finish his career here
hackneyfox Posted 14 July 2010 Posted 14 July 2010 We're a football club not a place for old nags to be put out to grass.
Joe. Posted 14 July 2010 Posted 14 July 2010 You say who would pay £300k for a 34-year-old, but his value would mean nothing if he helped them get promoted, which is quite possible. He'll do well there.
foxoffderby Posted 14 July 2010 Posted 14 July 2010 Who would pay £300k for a 34 year old? Why would a club pay 1.5m for somebody in Jan 08 who is 32 years old knowing his value would only go down? Glad hes going quicker the better. Never rated him Derby were laughing when we payed them that much for a 32 year old. People only remember the season when he played well in League1 what about his first 6 months he was rubbish and was one of the reasons why we went down. He played well at WBA that season, and that was about it. Get him out quicker the better and get some quality up top. Get his mate out at the same time they are both sheep fans always will be. Him and his mate never wanted to come Leicester in the first place but were forced out by the Board at Derby.

That player was available and 1.5 mill was the going rate?
Ozwin Posted 14 July 2010 Posted 14 July 2010 Thanks for bringing back memories of Barry Hayles, I thought I'd completely repressed that whole saga.
lcfcjim Posted 14 July 2010 Posted 14 July 2010 Leicester and Huddersfield ready to swap strikers Veteran striker Steven Howard is quitting Leicester City to sign for Lee Clark's Huddersfield in a swap deal. Howard is dropping down a level to give Clark's young team a more experienced front man as they go for promotion. Leicester are letting Howard go and will take speedy Huddersfield attacker Theo Robinson in the exchange deal. Robinson was in and out of Clark's side last season and is jumping at the chance of playing for the Championship outfit. Linkage
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 14 July 2010 Posted 14 July 2010 Linkage Interesting that. Though surely we would have to pay money too.
SystonFox Posted 15 July 2010 Posted 15 July 2010 Pretty sure it was 150K and with a return of just 2 goals, i wouldn't say it was the smartest bit of business ever. That delicate chip in the last minute vs palace is worth 150k alone, the other vs cov that trickled over the line is irrelevant.he also brought his own chant oh Barry hayles is bigger than this. Quality player well worth the wonga. Good luck SH if you do move on. Served us well
Webbo Posted 15 July 2010 Posted 15 July 2010 Robinson was in and out of Clark's side last season and is jumping at the chance of playing for the Championship outfit. If he can't get a regular start for Huddesfield why do we want him?
Toby or not Toby Posted 15 July 2010 Posted 15 July 2010 Started 17 games ang came off the bench 20 times, and scored 13. Not the worst return on the world!
skinner05 Posted 15 July 2010 Posted 15 July 2010 http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Leicester-transfer-news-Foxes-ready-to-swap-Steven-Howard-for-Huddersfield-forward-Theo-Robinson-article526579.html Pleased if this is true. While it means we will have lost all our pace up front, he really isn't good enough. His general play is pretty appalling, for a pro footballer his touch, awareness, vision etc is shocking. What he does do though is put the ball in the net alot which I guess is what he is paid to do.
