Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 21 July 2010 Posted 21 July 2010 One year contract I take it? One year extension is what I'd guess if its true.
Narborough_fox Posted 21 July 2010 Posted 21 July 2010 One year extension is what I'd guess if its true. Yeah that's what I meant. Could only see getting 2 years out of him at most.
Acetripper Posted 21 July 2010 Posted 21 July 2010 We've just signed Joe Garner from Forest on a six months loan! Think that means this potential deal is dead in the water!
davieG Posted 21 July 2010 Posted 21 July 2010 LCFC have not officially offered him a new contract they have talked to Steve and will offer him a new contract later this week then It will be up to him.
leicesterseddon Posted 21 July 2010 Posted 21 July 2010 You'd think if anyone offered any decent money for him we'd snap their hands off. Decent servant to the club, but offering him another contract would be lunacy in my opinion. He's not quick enough to be a top forward in this league and he certainly won't be getting any quicker in the next 2 seasons.
foxoffderby Posted 21 July 2010 Posted 21 July 2010 Wrong...Ok im not a Howard fan never have been, however if im a become a neutral for a second for his age and his wages I wouldn't offer him a new contract. Its time we got some new new blood with younger legs. I would give a chance to somebody from the lower leagues or somebody from abroad.
Head Honcho Posted 21 July 2010 Posted 21 July 2010 Who would pay £300k for a 34 year old? Martin Allen
Stadt Posted 24 July 2010 Posted 24 July 2010 Speaking of huddersfield Gudjohnsson scored a screamer!
andy_croydz Posted 27 July 2010 Posted 27 July 2010 Maxim Shatskikh in. To be honest, i'll support Howard when he plays but if he is on say... 6-10k a week then I don't think it's worth offering him a new contract. He is not a goalscorer, never has been for us. He has scored a few headers and a few off the floor but off the top of my head I would say roughly at a guess that his record for us is something like... 17 goals in 70 odd games? Could be miles off but I know he isn't prolific put it that way . He is a good team player, holds the ball up really well, is strong as an ox but for 6-10k we could have a younger version with time to improve aswell. Howard will retire in a few years.

Last season he got more yellow/red cards than he got goals. League 18(19) appearances 5 goals 6 yellows 1 red.

andy_croydz Posted 27 July 2010 Posted 27 July 2010 Just had a look at the official stats and he has scored 24 in 90 for us, that includes sub appearances, still not brilliant though.
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 27 July 2010 Posted 27 July 2010 Just had a look at the official stats and he has scored 24 in 90 for us, that includes sub appearances, still not brilliant though. One in every 3.75 games isn't bad for a target man rather than out and out goalscorer.
Cheese Me Posted 27 July 2010 Posted 27 July 2010 One in every 3.75 games isn't bad for a target man rather than out and out goalscorer. And he adds, much, much more than just goals. Completely different option, powerful, bullies defenders, plays with heart on sleeve which has to be inspiring for those around Does anyone really think Fryatt, for example, would have been anywhere near as prolific in L1 without Howard winning the ball for him Even is he gets to the point where he isn't able to last a full game anymore (and lets be honest, despite getting a bit older there's nothing really to suggest that is the case yet) I honestly believe he will be an excellent option from the bench against tired defenders in the last 25-30 minutes. I can't see us bringing in someone in the near future who is going to do that job better so why let him go? Fortunately, from his comments, looks like Sousa more or less agrees with this.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 27 July 2010 Posted 27 July 2010 Some people on here seem to have this unjustified view that Howard is past it, just because of his age. He was never the quickest, so he is hardly going to lose much more pace, which is the main thing strikers lose whent hey get older. He can still jump and head well, just as well as anyone else. I'm not saying he should start every game, because he is suited to some games and situations more than others, but you only have to look at what he did to Cardiff in the PO's to see if he is past it or not.
Houdini Logic Posted 27 July 2010 Posted 27 July 2010 Howard is the best Defender and best Midfielder we have
Spiritwalker Posted 27 July 2010 Posted 27 July 2010 Playing good possesion football is what we all want to see but sooner or later we will need a plan B, this might be during a game or even from the start of a game like at Cardif. We would struggle to find another player who is as strong in the air as Howard.
sdb Posted 27 July 2010 Posted 27 July 2010 we certainly need to sign a 'big man/target striker' if he goes, what with Kerm gone as well. As said above, there will be times when we need a plan B. If Howard played like he did v Cardiff every game then he'd start every week, but he's very hit and miss and he's as likely to see red as score i always feel.
googie Posted 28 July 2010 Posted 28 July 2010 I work at KFC and Chris powell came in 2nite after the pet'boro game and told me about it.He says every1 at the club wants Howard to stay but he may still go.Only 1 club has made an offer. If we dont sign any1 else b4 season starts i dont think we should let him go.Powell says we need some new signings but the boss is working hard to get some more faces in.He also said all the lads are fine with DJ and he hopes he stays as well but several clubs are still interested.

I would like to believe you but this makes it sound fake
Houdini Logic Posted 28 July 2010 Posted 28 July 2010 I would like to believe you but this makes it sound fake It's not exacty what I'd write if I was making it up 'I was chilling in the VIP lounge of one of my many strip joints, sipping a daiquiri and puffing on a finely rolled cigar, when this familiar looking black man walked in and said he wanted to tell me about his day...
