Salieri Posted 15 July 2010 Posted 15 July 2010 So all the managers who have paid a lot of money to sign Emile, and the England managers who have given him all of his caps, and the multitude of ex and current players who have lavished praise on Emile must all be wrong? He's had an excellent career since leaving Leicester and well done to him.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 15 July 2010 Posted 15 July 2010 Slewed Brap brap lollllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll
ousefox Posted 15 July 2010 Posted 15 July 2010 Legend. The right time to finish it though. Would love to see him in a LCFC shirt again in the future.
Tilley Posted 15 July 2010 Posted 15 July 2010 God, I hope we don't see him in a Leicester shirt again in the future.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 15 July 2010 Posted 15 July 2010 I hope we see him in a Leicester shirt in the near future.
Libertine Posted 15 July 2010 Posted 15 July 2010 God, I hope we don't see him in a Leicester shirt again in the future. Not even as the new Filbert?
Phube Posted 15 July 2010 Posted 15 July 2010 Still the best striker we had at this year's World Cup - on effort and play. Heskey vs Rooney WC 2010 - No contest!
Tilley Posted 15 July 2010 Posted 15 July 2010 Defoe was the best striker we had at the World Cup because he did what strikers should do, he scored.
ousefox Posted 15 July 2010 Posted 15 July 2010 Defoe was the best striker we had at the World Cup because he did what strikers should do, he scored. That was just about all he did. and it hit him and went in
Guest ttfn Posted 15 July 2010 Posted 15 July 2010 Brilliant. on a side not - Heskey is a striker and they are expected to score GOALS surprisingly. So people who's argument of his greatness is ''he was a nuisance to defenders'' is bull sh!t. I think if you stuck Hulk Hogan up front he would be a ''nuisance to defenders'' dosn't make him a good footballer. Troll alert! The game has moved on. Strikers do not have to score goals any more. We no longer live in an age of 4-4-2, 'big man, small man', clogging centre halves (Wayne Brown excepted). We now live in an age of the greatest team in the world scoring 8 goals in 7 world cup matches to win the World Cup and 4-2-3-1. Last season, Wayne Rooney and Didier Drogba topped the scoring charts, but Frank Lampard scored a hatful from midfield. The year before Cristiano Ronaldo and Steven Gerrard came second and third respectively, despite operating primarily from midfield. Wesley Sneijder was the joint top scorer at the World Cup. From midfield. Thomas Muller was hardly an out-and-out centre forward and he also shared/won the golden boot. Even David Villa scored most of his goals when positioned on the left wing, whilst Diego Forlan spent half the tournament in an attacking midfield/withdrawn striker role. Don't get me wrong, I love a goalscoring striker (see the avatar) but the game has moved past that. The attitude that strikers have to score goals is totally outdated. On Heskey, there's a fantastic article here. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2010/jul/15/emile-heskey-england-retirement And I'm not from Leicester, I'm not interested in what he did for this city's football reputation or anything like that. I'm interested in what he did for England (and, when he was at the club, Leicester). And almost all of England's best performances over the past 10 years featured Heskey. They can't all have been in spite of him.
foxoffderby Posted 15 July 2010 Posted 15 July 2010 Played with Emile in our school team many moons ago at the City Of Leicester School. Was a good player but I never thought he'd go on to play for England. Well done mate
Corky Posted 15 July 2010 Posted 15 July 2010 They shouldn't be pointless but they are in Heskey's case, it's as if the guy has given free money handouts to people on here. And given the reactions towards people who even dare to criticise the bloke then you could use a stronger word then even slander. I wish I could do **** all for years yet still pick up his wage and get called up time and time again. Heskey should not have been picked for England post-WC 2002, he peaked there and has been pretty dismal ever since. Maybe his money handout to the club in our darkest time has given him the support on here, deserved or otherwise. Added to his popularity during his time with us. Robert Green got the same with Norwich supporters after his mistake, people stick up for and defend players who played for their club and were popular. It's hardly surprising that Emile is well-liked on here and maybe that sways towards favourable opinions.
The Doctor Posted 16 July 2010 Posted 16 July 2010 his goal records not actually all that bad: 7 goals from 27 shots - 1 every 4. still probably the biggest contribution he's made to england in a couple of years.
MrSpaM Posted 16 July 2010 Posted 16 July 2010 I did a quick search on the forums and couldnt find any posts on here about it. Just thought a quick mention was in order for Heskey officially retiring from the international game. Absalute leicester legend as far as i'm concerned, and a quick video from his hayday at Leicester, and a classic match. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjMLTGMf1Ig Note Chris Powell playing for Derby as well Emile Heskey, we salute you
OzFox Posted 16 July 2010 Posted 16 July 2010 On Heskey, there's a fantastic article here. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2010/jul/15/emile-heskey-england-retirement Interesting read. I was there for his debut at QPR years ago. He came on as a sub, looked gangly, clumsy and pretty hopeless. Within a year he was my favourite player. I'd say he's one of the best I've seen at chasing down hopeless "hoofs" and holding the ball up, bringing other people into play. When it came to shooting though, he never was one for finesse...head down and blast it!

Emile Heskey giving Leicester City money will not make me think he has been a good player for England and in club football since 2002/2003(ish)), but I suppose we're all different in how we view players. Fair enough if people think he's been a great player for England.
Koke Posted 16 July 2010 Posted 16 July 2010 Not his fault that manger after manager picked him for England. What is he gonna do? "Nah boss, I don't wanna play. Im gash and will be a hindrance to England's success". He was picked and was told to play and he put in 100% effort. Unfortunately, it was far from good enough, but blame the managers who picked him. All the ridiculing and scapegoating has been too harsh. You would have thought he was the catalyst for England's consistent epic failures.
Ozwin Posted 16 July 2010 Posted 16 July 2010 Has he become the scapegoat for us being shit this WC? I've not heard a bad word against him tbh.

All the ridiculing and scapegoating has been too harsh. You would have thought he was the catalyst for England's consistent epic failures. Oh I do blame the managers, none more so than Fabio Capello who has played him far too much even though he's clearly way way past his best. Capello's inclusion of Heskey in the WC squad displayed how he lied to the public and the players that only in-form players will be picked. I don't blame Heskey for anything, just voicing a personal opinion that his international career has been poor, as have the careers of many other English players in recent times. The reason why I give Heskey more shit than others: 1) He's been utterly crap in club football for years unlike the equally underperforming likes of Lampard, Rooney, Gerrard e.t.c. 2) This forum is biased towards him (for valid enough reasons I suppose), but it seems to be clouding over true footballing opinions
Phube Posted 16 July 2010 Posted 16 July 2010 Interesting stat you you Heskey bashers: Emile Heskey - 62 games 7 goals Peter Beardsley - 59 games 9 goals. Not too dissimilar, anyone willing to call Beardsley crap?!
andy_croydz Posted 16 July 2010 Posted 16 July 2010 I would. I've built a Kevin Pressman shrine in my garden. It's made out of potatoes Pressman was actually a good keeper . I remember some great saves he made in a Leicester shirt. One at Gillingham away was mental and he made a world class save at home against Cov I think. We should bring Heskey back, Heskey to replace Howard no?
