Babylon Posted 13 September 2010 Posted 13 September 2010 Not bothered one way or the other about him, we'd get half decent money if we flogged him. If the owners have more money for us to spend (we did bid £2m for williams), then I think that combined with money from his sale means we could purchase a good replacement.

Matty is very hot and cold, he works hard and puts alot of effort and at times he's leathal. If we got a suitable replacement, I would be happy!!
MrSpaM Posted 14 September 2010 Posted 14 September 2010 Paulo Sousa has warned Derby County boss Nigel Clough he would have to be prepared to spend a lot of money if he wants to sign Leicester City striker Matty Fryatt. Clough had made an enquiry about Fryatt during the transfer window, but was told the striker was not for sale. The Rams boss confessed last week that he would be interested in making a move if Fryatt became available. But Sousa said he wants to keep Fryatt, who returned to the starting line-up last Saturday in the 1-1 draw at Coventry City. "I feel happy because we have a good player in Matty, that other managers want," said Sousa. "Of course, if he (Clough) wants him, then he will have to pay a lot of money to have him. "So far I am very happy to have Matty with us. He is a player who is looking to score goals. "He knows how to do it and came very close last Saturday. He came very close and, hopefully, he will score against Cardiff tonight in an important game to give us a win." However, Clough, who took former City strikers Paul Dickov and DJ Campbell on loan last season, is unlikely to be undeterred in his pursuit. He is looking to sign a striker on loan as a priority, and admitted Fryatt was under consideration. "Yes, he is a player we rate highly, in the James Vaughan, Chris Wood mould," said Clough. "Ben Davies is another one – they are all players we are looking at and monitoring. "We have not made an approach for Matty Fryatt. He is in Leicester's squad at the moment. "There might have been a phone call in terms of asking if anything happens to keep us informed, but we don't class that as an offer on the table. "If he does become available, then we would like to be in there." However, Sousa said it was unlikely that any of his first-team squad would be going out on loan in the next few weeks, and said it was more likely that he would bring a player in. "There won't be anyone going out, not yet," said Sousa. "But coming in, we will see if we can settle one player." Can't see him going out on loan after this
Ric Flair Posted 14 September 2010 Posted 14 September 2010 I'm glad Sousa is making positive vibes about Fryatt. I fancy a goal from the lad tonight, he does enjoy a scrambled effort over the line against Cardiff. Fryatt shouldn't be sold, simple as.

Sousa was diplomatically keeping every option open.
Ric Flair Posted 14 September 2010 Posted 14 September 2010 Positive vibes....? Sousa was diplomatically keeping every option open. The positive vibes as in he started him against Coventry and insinuated that he'd start tonight. Fryatt is only ever dangerous when he's backed by his manager and fully fit. The fitness is a worry at present as he looked like the Fryatt of the Kelly/Allen/Megson/Holloway era against Palace and if that's the state of his game this season then we are in trouble. If he is able to get in the shape he was under Pearson then i'm baffled by the fans criticism of him.

The new formation really doesn't suit fryatt though , the central man of the 3 needs to be able to play up there on his own at times , keep the ball well and bring in the 2 wider players ....fryatt is more suited to playing with a big man and I fear he will continue to struggle if played there

He can do it, he just needs a goal and to pick up his sharpness.

Let's hope your right as I'd love him to come good (starting tonight) but I think Waghorn would be better suited to that role myself though

His record speaks for itself in the past 2 seasons. That is the real Fryatt. Just because he misses chances, he still scores at a rate of one every 2.5 games which at this level is a player we need.

It is what he has done at this level that counts. As, apart from King, Waghorn & Gally we have no other players who score regularly then we need a striker who can score every other game AND create chances for those around him. How many assists did Fryatt have last season?
hackneyfox Posted 14 September 2010 Posted 14 September 2010 I agree mate, even the top strikers in the world MISS In that case with one on one's with the goalie he is the best striker in the world. I'd love to see him come good again, but his history at this club indicates that he will spend a lot of time overweight, won't score for ages, then have a purple patch. If he is dropped the it is likely he will sulk and his confidence will be shot. We need a proper striker that scores regularly, is fit, fast and creates for those around him.

How many assists did Fryatt have last season? He was our top assister with 6 last season according to below: http://www.football-league.co.uk/page/Assists/0,,10794~200910274~7,00.html Add that to his 13 goals and that is a decent return from the amount of games he played. If you don't want to count his lethal season in League One then fair enough, but last season showed he is more than capable and if he hadn't had his jaw shattered, he'd have got near to 20 goals which is highly sought in this division.

Spot on. Love how everyone moans about our own players. Yeah, can be frustrating watching them - fook it; probably twice as frustrating actually being them on that pitch.

hackneyfox Posted 14 September 2010 Posted 14 September 2010 Top with 6 assists! He's gone up in my estimation, because the whole team has gone down.
Ric Flair Posted 14 September 2010 Posted 14 September 2010 Top with 6 assists! He's gone up in my estimation, because the whole team has gone down. 6 in just over half a season? Not that shabby surely. I think this stat might be a bit dodgy though as if you count up all of the assists, it only comes to 40 in all competitions yet we scored way more than 40. Either way, Fryatt does his fair share of creating, you perhaps just haven't acknowledged it consciously.

Yes. He looked quicker as well last season, I heard people commenting on his pace which hadn't happened before.
