Thracian Posted 7 September 2010 Posted 7 September 2010 It seems to me you think all foreign players are crap. In my opinion there is just as much chance that a new player who happens to be from another country has as much chance of being a star as a British player. You have confused me by saying you like Drogba though. He's foreign! Quite how you managed to read the text of my comments as saying that "all foreign players are crap" I don't know. But it's par for the course on here, I'll grant you.
hackneyfox Posted 7 September 2010 Posted 7 September 2010 First of all I've not been talking about the British game I've been talking about Leicester City but if you want my opinion of the effect that the invasion of foreign players has had on the development of British players I'm sure you'll be able to look it up somewhere. Even the authorities are concerned - and no wonder judging by our World Cup performance - butthe constraints of Human Rights legislation and various PC dictates mean that even they cannot do anything other than make token gestures towards reversing the trend. What PC dictates are you rattling on about now? I like your football opinions but I do wish you'd keep your Richard Littlejohnesque observations to yourself.
nickelbyfox Posted 7 September 2010 Posted 7 September 2010 Don't think you will see Man City or Arsenal complaining about foreign imports, the problem is when we buy foreigners they are often on the cheap
shen Posted 7 September 2010 Posted 7 September 2010 Perhaps you'd remind me of all imported attackers we've had who have done so well for us. Cos my impression of our foreign signings is that you're lucky if they merit a place in the team at all. Let's see know - there was Kaebi, Djiziri, some Italian who was signed around the same time and was never fit, a Scandinavian goalkeeper who looked poor even in the reserves, one-good-game wonder Lakzco, that guy Bori whose name was shorter than his time on the pitch, Tunchev (nice but long-time injured), Vitor who shows every sign of being from the same mould, Yann (penalty king) Kermorghant and so it goes on and on, cos the list seems endless. It really would be nice to name a list of imported foreign successes - people who have had the sort of impact on our club as the greats whose pictures are plastered around the ground but I'm struggling and nothing I've seen from the latest lot is getting me the lest bit excited. Well the judge is still out on Abe, Moreno, Lamey, Crncic, Moussa and Vitor. Also try not to mention N'Guessan, Solano, Berner, Kisnorbo and Henderson who've all made important contributions. Chances are that most of the names you mentioned there were cheap gambles that didn't pay off. It's probably the fact they've got foreign-sounding names that you even noticed them in the first place. Where are the mentions of Chambers, Worley, Verma, McKee etc?
hackneyfox Posted 7 September 2010 Posted 7 September 2010 Reality check Henderson & Kisnorbo along with Hume got us relegated. N'Guessan will get us relegated should he continue to play. And what the hell have Chambers, Worley, Verma & McKee got to do with this discussion? ffs Henderson & kisnorbo

How conveniently you exclude what I actually said which was:- "People who have had the sort of impact on our club as the greats whose pictures are plastered around the ground." But thanks for your list. Because a) I didn't omit anybody's name for any particular reason and b) If you think the contributions of N'Guessan, Solana, Berner, Kisnorbo and Henderson represent players who have had influence even close to that of our greats, then I rest my case. They were/are just everyday professional footballers and represent exactly my point - that we are not signing foreign players who set such an example they lift the standard of the club but have (up to Sousa's time), instead signed a long list of imports who have just been of a standard ranging from ordinary to mediocre, often to the exclusion of British talent or our own Academy trained players who could/should have done just as well or even better. I wait with interest to see how the new Foreign Legion performs and wish them good luck as I do with any players. They're going to need it given the number of senior players who seem to want out, but no matter, it's as good a time as ever for the newcomers to show they can elevate us to a new level. Cos it's about time someone did. If not, I hate to imagine the sort of implosion our club might go through.

Though not a great in my book Thrac, I didn't think that Pontus Kaamark left us owing us anything. To me a perfectly acceptable overseas signing who improved our team at the time (had a fantastic game against West Brom) and would have been even more special had he not had an unfortunate cruciate injury. Still did a great job on Juninho in the Cup final.

John Sjoberg was pretty good too. But still no attackers mentioned.

Still did a great job on Juninho in the Cup final. Kaamark was the first name that came to me. Then after thinking for a couple of minutes I realised I couldn't think of any others. There's no reason why foreign signings shouldn't be successful I just think maybe a bit more homework needs to be done, especially if they are the bargain type we seem to go for.
Jimmy Posted 7 September 2010 Posted 7 September 2010 Kasey Keller, had Mancini stayed longer he could of been included too

Even the authorities are concerned - and no wonder judging by our World Cup performance - butthe constraints of Human Rights legislation and various PC dictates mean that even they cannot do anything other than make token gestures towards reversing the trend. And there you go with the debate-stifling racist ticket - how convenient and how easily you make such selective remarks. I can hardly be bothered to argue with you. You'll continue looking through your blinkers and doing everything you can to deflect the conversation from the real point. Which is to just name the foreign attackers who have shone in a City shirt! From what I've seen so far of our signings I'm sure I will have something to say about our latest imports. As for the "white" bit and the totally ignorant innuendo you put into that remark, I think I more than welcomed the prospect of Heskey's return, defended Gradel, Campbell and Porter to the nth degree and cannot imagine any player I'd rather have in a City shirt than Drogba, I just don't see the attraction or the return in importing foreign also-rans and will leave you now to change my mind by making your list of foreign stars we've had who've done so much better than their British predecessors! Because in my book new players to the club should be better than the ones we had before and our current situation - and our situation throughout recent years - doesn't suggest that's been the case at all, quite the contrary. PS: I don't care why players are injured or whose fault it is. They're no use to us injured whatever. I said the same about Clemence. I know its off topic, but its an interesting point and I wondered what you thought about the following I also used to blame the lack of good english players on foriegn players coming to the premiership, however now I'm not so sure. I've started to think that Premier League players stock piling young english players then playing foriegners is the problem (instead of allowing them to play in the championship and below and develop before graduating upwards). Also not enough english players are exported around the world (again the argument is they are often not good enough too but it doesn't always have to be to the top leagues and top teams if they get 1st team football). What do you think?

You seemed to have missed the point of my reply by a country mile.i did not mention passed Leicester players.but i did mention experienced foreign players(real stars, like Edgar Davids)who are on a free,so we pay better wages for the services, but not on transfer fees.may i also point out the Edgar Davids comment was tongue in cheek!Bit creepy but your posts are of a good quality, and you may have had an off day!

He's no world beater but he was a very decent Championship-level centre back for us and would be an improvement on Morrison or Moreno now.
