DJ Barry Hammond Posted 18 January 2011 Posted 18 January 2011 Steve Bruce is already making plans on what he's going to do with the £18m fee for Darren Bent. He's going to pay off his tab at Greggs! Nose job!
Dickie Greenleaf Posted 18 January 2011 Posted 18 January 2011 Can stop his part time moonlighting job
Edmund Posted 18 January 2011 Posted 18 January 2011 Darren Bent's record is phenomenal : 2001–2005 Ipswich Town 122 (47) 2005–2007 Charlton Athletic 68 (31) 2007–2009 Tottenham Hotspur 60 (18) 2009– Sunderland 58 (32) Villa may be pushing the boat, but he'll guarantee you goals at Premiership level. Saying that, if I was Houllier I would've gone For DJ Campbell. Guarantees you goals and a would cost far less.
Dickie Greenleaf Posted 18 January 2011 Posted 18 January 2011 Word. He is the third best scorer in the league from 05/06 - now. Only bettered by Drogba and rooney. By the end of the season, he'll be the top. If he scores 9 more (perfectly conceivable) he'll have averaged 15 a season over 6 years, which is pretty fooking consistent, especially when you consider how he was used at Spurs. I dont know how people are so surprised/ amused by it. Its 2011, £18 million for 20 goals a season in the Prem from a 26/27 year old is to be expected
ScouseFox Posted 18 January 2011 Posted 18 January 2011 Pienaar's gone to Spurs, around £2.5 million apparently. Good business.
Samilktray Posted 18 January 2011 Posted 18 January 2011 £18 million is money well spent. Best english goal scorer in the Premiership in recent years.
StanSP Posted 18 January 2011 Posted 18 January 2011 Big loss for Everton though. They have barely any money to replace him of that quality unless Moyes picks out a gem with less than 2 weeks of the transfer window left. Apparently they're signing Eric Dier, from Sporting Lisbon.
Samilktray Posted 18 January 2011 Posted 18 January 2011 Bents a done deal. Surprised this didnt drag on
StanSP Posted 18 January 2011 Posted 18 January 2011 Does make a change from the Rooney, Tevez and Ronaldo sagas. Wonder who Sunderland will get as a replacement.
FoxyPV Posted 18 January 2011 Posted 18 January 2011 Bent's the third highest PL scorer in recent years after Rooney and Drogba- so why does this feel like Sunderland are laughing all the way to the bank?
Samilktray Posted 18 January 2011 Posted 18 January 2011 Theyve got alot of money for him. But is there really anyone out there who can replace his goals for them?
StanSP Posted 18 January 2011 Posted 18 January 2011 Maybe they'll take Waghorn back Can't believe they've made £20m+ out of 2 attacking transfers. Great business by them.
MikeyT Posted 18 January 2011 Posted 18 January 2011 Am wondering if i'm the only person thinking Bent is utterly, utterly overrated and not actually that good. £18 Million! Really!!!
sdb Posted 18 January 2011 Posted 18 January 2011 £18 mill is a little OTT imo, £24 mill is crazy. He'll score goals, not many players guarantee that. He's a little overrated for me though, agreed.
FoxyPV Posted 18 January 2011 Posted 18 January 2011 Gyan will take his place as the top scorer and will bring others more into play than Bent will. He's definitely not worth £24m
StanSP Posted 19 January 2011 Posted 19 January 2011 I just watched highlights on MOTD2 of the Spurs vs Man Utd. Sorry but what the bleeding fook is Jonathan Pearce on about 'importance of the game shouldn't be decided on decisions [Rafael's 2nd booking] like that' Since when should the importance of the game decipher whether it should be a booking or not. If the foul is worthy of a yellow card, then so be it, regardless of what teams are playing and what competition it's being played in. A foul is a foul!
Corky Posted 19 January 2011 Posted 19 January 2011 He's not worth £18 million but he's scored goals at the clubs he's been at, his record at Sunderland is remarkable given the amount of goals they scored last season overall.

He's a little overrated for me though, agreed. If you think of it in terms of the money going out it's crazy, but if he keeps Villa as far away from the roughly £30 million loss that relegation is alleged to be, and pushes them up the table to a half-decent finishing position worth more money, then that's a profit as far as Randy Lerner may be concerned. That's without considering the value of even half-decent English players for Prem teams and the crazy spending that some teams are doing, thereby pushing prices up... Think he's a good player in general though, just hasn't really had the International game-time to prove it. Should slot quite well into Villa's attack methinks
StanSP Posted 19 January 2011 Posted 19 January 2011 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-12228518 Manuel Da Costa, West Ham defender, been charged with sexual assault. Tut tut.
Bugg Posted 20 January 2011 Posted 20 January 2011 Wheater signs for Bolton Good deal for Bolton, maybe paving the way for Cahill to leave?
ScouseFox Posted 20 January 2011 Posted 20 January 2011 Adam Hammill's finally left Barnsley, gone to Wolves.
lildave3 Posted 20 January 2011 Posted 20 January 2011 Carew could be heading to Stoke too. As if Stoke could get any more unplayable on Fifa.
StanSP Posted 20 January 2011 Posted 20 January 2011 As if Stoke could get any more unplayable on Fifa. Tell me about it. 3 massive strikers up front for them plus Tuncay!
