Jonny Chee Posted 16 August 2010 Posted 16 August 2010 Any other geeks here excited about this, or is it just me?
Phube Posted 16 August 2010 Posted 16 August 2010 I bought Civ III the other year to try it... Played about 15 mins (10 minutes choosing who I was and what type of world it was) got confused and gave up... Although if I learnt to play I'd probably like it... :

lcfc"weasel" Posted 16 August 2010 Posted 16 August 2010 What is this game all about, been tempted to buy it a few times.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 16 August 2010 Posted 16 August 2010 What is this game all about, been tempted to buy it a few times. I would say a cross between Sim City and the Total War games, with it not being as good as either - but its not bad. May be tempted to buy it, but I've seen a picture of Sid Meier and it makes me want to avoid the game now!
Legend_in_blue Posted 16 August 2010 Posted 16 August 2010 It's as dull as dishwater. Considering what's coming up for release between now and xmas, this should be at the bottom of everyone's list. PC gaming at the mo is all about Starcraft 2. Blizzard needs to get itself sorted out and get Diablo 3 on the shelves by this time next year as well.

You don't half see things black and white sometimes. Not that I am a massive fan of civ, I actually played the first one for a bit, was alright.
Jon the Hat Posted 17 August 2010 Posted 17 August 2010 Got Civilisation Revolutions on the iphone the other day. It was free for some reason. Tis just like Civ was back in the day, I have been in trouble for not putting my phone down since...
Dames Posted 17 August 2010 Posted 17 August 2010 why bother when you can play Starcraft 1... basically identical ugh i couldn't go back to SC1 after playing 2 now Graphics are better. Terran are better () Runs better.
Christoph Posted 29 May 2011 Posted 29 May 2011 Bump. Anyone bust this game out? One of the most addictive gamers EVER
shen Posted 29 May 2011 Posted 29 May 2011 I have it, played it for a few weeks but some silly imbalances means I haven't played it since. I'll come back to it sometime in the future probably...
lcfc"weasel" Posted 29 May 2011 Posted 29 May 2011 Never played any of the Civ. games, anyone able to give me an insight? Hear they're quite good but don't know much about them.
Christoph Posted 29 May 2011 Posted 29 May 2011 Weasel, its basically like Age of the Empires but better and more detailed. There are ways to win, through your spread of culture, miltiary dominance etc. Really decent game, kills some serious time when u first make a new civ

shen Posted 29 May 2011 Posted 29 May 2011 Cheers, I've played AoE before, quite enjoyed it may invest in this quite soon then. AoE is real-time, Civ 5 is turn-based. Don't actually see too much of a similarity between them
Christoph Posted 29 May 2011 Posted 29 May 2011 Well there similar enough in the way you build armies and make your towns bigger and more improved. Other than the turn based thing, they're still pretty similar.

I'm sure you can read descriptions and resumés that are better than what I can write up here. But if you're up to some turn-based grand/war/diplo strategy games I suggest you try out this to start with. There are IMO more interesting and challenging games like Europa Universalis 3 and others have advocated for the Total War series. There are threads about both series on these forums too
Haydos Posted 29 May 2011 Posted 29 May 2011 Me and a few mates still play AoE2 fairly regularly. My housemate and I sometimes play drinking-AoE before we go out
Jonny Chee Posted 30 May 2011 Author Posted 30 May 2011 This game goes down as the biggest disappointment of all time for me. Civ 4and the expansions were amazing but this is just a poor effort. Most of the Civ faithful feel the same way too.
Bryn Posted 30 May 2011 Posted 30 May 2011 Civilization is to Age of Empires, what Football Manager is to FIFA. You can see the overall effects of your tweaking, but it is the tweaking, the tactics, that are critical, and not your ability to directly control your units.
