HonradaRaposa Posted 31 August 2010 Posted 31 August 2010 Losing him would be a mistake. Absolutely very careless. Much better we sell him.
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 31 August 2010 Posted 31 August 2010 Wellens - Overrated. Took him over nearly 50 games to score for us last season which isn't good enough. Tries too hard to play the 'killer' ball ends up failing 9/10 and giving it straight away. He's slow. Can't really tackle. Granted he has some quality games and does produce a decent ball every now and again but with him and Oakley in the middle we get dominated time and again because neither of them are imposing enough. Wellens does try and get about a bit but he fails miserably and if he does win the ball back he'll just give it away trying to play the Beckham ball. Gallagher - Technically he can be good but too often he looks too lethargic and lacks any real impact in games. Even if he's stuck out on the wing the guy should have enough technical ability to beat his man and make some decent runs but when do we ever see it? In reality both of these players flatter to deceive and if we lost them it wouldn't be the biggest loss in the world.

I've already said what I think about Wellens, but Gally, he is good technically but all too often drops his head, gets frustrated, and blames others when things don't go right for him. I am always hoping he will get there and develop some consistency, but my hopes seem to be dashed all too often.
Lillehamring Posted 31 August 2010 Posted 31 August 2010 i've never seen what a lot of people, previously, saw in him - he was being bummed on foxes talk, and still is by some, but whenever i see him player he seems ordinary. i think it was only because of the trail of crap players for years and years through the midfield that preceded him that made him seem great. anyway, it's all going to be about 'lester abe', now..
Simmo86 Posted 31 August 2010 Posted 31 August 2010 Wouldnt miss Wellens, thinks he's better than he is! Too many stray passes!!
MikeyT Posted 31 August 2010 Posted 31 August 2010 Do you mean Richie Wellens, the one who plays for Leicester City? He couldn't out-tackle my 18 month old grandson, mind you, he is hard! I'm fairly sure he could
Webbo Posted 31 August 2010 Posted 31 August 2010 I like Wellens but I'm not in love with him. If we get a decent fee and his replacement is better then all well and good. As for Gallagher I'm not sure what his best position is and I don't think he nor any one else at the club knows either. Technically very good but often flatters to deceive.
Corky Posted 31 August 2010 Posted 31 August 2010 I like Wellens, has some tenacity and a good range of passing (yes it doesn't come off all the time but is great when it does) but I do believe he is replaceable.
Fox 4 Life Posted 31 August 2010 Posted 31 August 2010 the frustrating thing about Wellens is as good as his passing is, he always seems to go sideways rather than forwards, can be seriously stressful to watch!
Ozwin Posted 31 August 2010 Posted 31 August 2010 I would be absolutely gutted if we lost Wellens. I wish 6pm would hurry up.

Jordan Posted 31 August 2010 Posted 31 August 2010 Now, now, folks; just because Richie Wellens plays for Leicester, that doesn't mean he's automatically going to sign for Leeds afterwards. Some Leeds players were actually signed from elsewhere, and not every Leicester reject winds up at Elland Road.
Thracian Posted 31 August 2010 Posted 31 August 2010 Not so fussed about wellens to be fair, he can be replaced, but i would not want Gally to go! didn't he say on the OS that he had found a home in Leicester? Gallagher seems to be an enigma, a player it is so hard to find a permanent position for. There is no doubting he has ability and sometimes he does the truly dazzling with with a shot or a bit of trickery. But he's no frontline striker and nothing in his record suggests that he is, whatever he might believe. He flatters to deceive much of the time. In the warm up his shots are probably more sweetly hit than anyone's. But on the pitch he's mostly too far from the danger zone to be effective. Waghorn is nothing like as skillful but he does get in where it hurts and unnerve defenders. For me the only hope for Gallagher is in the position he played at Leeds second half - making late runs with someone like King to link up with a lone striker. I say that because both can shoot and both can keep a passing move going at pace. Quite why we didn't adopt that approach against Reading after performing so well at Leeds I don't know.
spirefox Posted 31 August 2010 Posted 31 August 2010 The second half team and performance against Leeds ,who played a very strong team and were 100% committed, was so impressive it beggars belief that the changes were made on Saturday. What price none of Wellens,King or Oakley starting against Cov ?

I say that because both can shoot and both can keep a passing move going at pace. Quite why we didn't adopt that approach against Reading after performing so well at Leeds I don't know. Against Reading he was clearly playing alongside Howard. For a player who has no aerial presence, no pace nor the sharpness required to score regularly from close in it it was wrong on every level. The only position he is really suited to is to play in 'the hole' (as at Leeds), so how would this work? If he plays behind two strikers then we will struggle for width, this must come from the fulbacks but none of the fulbacks currently at the club are quick/good enough. Ideally he plays behind a lone striker, with support coming from the wide positions but for this system to work we need someone who can play the central striker role. Howard and Fryatt are the classic 'big man, little man' pairing, playing the pair of them commits us to playing 4-4-2, which brings it's own perils. Neither player look liable to be a real threat operating on their own. Summed up like this it is possible to see why Sousa is struggling to find a system and a settled line up, all in all I am slightly disapointed that we were unable to bring in some different players, even if we had to lose one or two to do so.
iBleedLeicesterColours Posted 31 August 2010 Posted 31 August 2010 This would be ludicris! Wellens is so underrated. He is our midfield general, does all the shit work for everyone else.
haraven Posted 31 August 2010 Posted 31 August 2010 This would be ludicris! Wellens is so underrated. He is our midfield general, does all the shit work for everyone else. Spot on - Wellens is a player we must keep hold of. Solid midfielder.

Spot on - Wellens is a player we must keep hold of. Solid midfielder. I remain astonished that so many of our fans rate Wellens so highly, I'm not having a go at anyone but I find this really difficult to understand. It seems that many fans rate him because of his feisty competitive nature and while that is a good thing as far as it goes it simply does not go far enough for me. It is true that English fans in general value hard work and combativeness, sometimes above all else and seeing Wellen's performance at Burnley I can kind of understand this reaction, particularly during the heat of the game. But in reality I really can not see what he brings to the side from a football point of view, most games he is simply bluster, his positioning is poor defensively and his tackling is poor and indisciplined, going forward he slows down our attacks and gives the ball away far too often, he rarely scores, in fact he rarely looks like scoring and he makes few decent chances for his colleagues. It's not personal, I have held these views for a long time, and to me his faults are so obvious I simply can not see why everyone else does not see it, but then that's football, for fans anyway...
bandy Posted 31 August 2010 Posted 31 August 2010 Is everyone having a laugh??? Creativity? the guy can't pass the ball to save his life! he is the most over rated piece of junk we have in the team! I would happily see him leave! - King and Moreno in centre mid! Miltonfox hahahhaahahah moreno is a pile of shit well he might not be that bad but so far he done fook all just cost us first goal at reading and his positioning is just as bad moreno and lamey are not good at all
