Would not be a terrible loss. I don't get where you get that he talks himself up from? Have I completely missed something? His ability to pick a pass and the fact he doesn't lose the ball in key areas is vital. How many times does he win vital free kicks on the edge of our own area or play a pass which is vital in an attacking move. This guy is class as Championship level and I'd hate to lose him.

The self appointed best player in the championship before he joined us. Full of flash and little substance. Also the only player who Cruyff turns to face his own goal all the time.

That's not a fact at all he loses the ball / is robbed because of his slow decision making lots of times, people are blinded by his occasionally successful Hollywood passes. Grant you he gives it his all but there's not enough resulting from his play, he needs to rethink his approach to the game.

I am definitely with you - overrated -! Too often looks for the 'killer' ball, rarely achieves it. Flatters to deceive. Looks as though he should be strong in the tackle - just isn't ! Fails to close people down, even Matt Oakley tackles harder than Wellens! He is an OK Championship player, no more and never will be!

You clearly weren't at Leeds then I'd be massively disappointed if he left, think he does more than some people on here seem to notice
Dames Posted 31 August 2010 Posted 31 August 2010 Wellens - Overrated. Took him over nearly 50 games to score for us last season which isn't good enough. Tries too hard to play the 'killer' ball ends up failing 9/10 and giving it straight away. He's slow. Can't really tackle. Granted he has some quality games and does produce a decent ball every now and again but with him and Oakley in the middle we get dominated time and again because neither of them are imposing enough. Wellens does try and get about a bit but he fails miserably and if he does win the ball back he'll just give it away trying to play the Beckham ball. Gallagher - Technically he can be good but too often he looks too lethargic and lacks any real impact in games. Even if he's stuck out on the wing the guy should have enough technical ability to beat his man and make some decent runs but when do we ever see it? In reality both of these players flatter to deceive and if we lost them it wouldn't be the biggest loss in the world.
