scott_gunnell Posted 1 October 2010 Posted 1 October 2010 The only concerns I have over Eriksson is his knowledge of the players (presumably zilch) and the fact he's obviously only doing it for money (goes without saying I suppose). If we rid ourselves of our O'Neill-centric bias for a moment, who is the better candidate? Sven has won Serie A, the Italian cup with three different teams, won the Portugese league, the Uefa cup, the Cup Winners Cup and the Swedish league and managed England to two world cup quarter finals. O'Neill has 2 carling cups, a plethora of meaningless Scottish trophies and our eternal adoration. Sven is the stand-out candidate. I wouldn’t agree that Sven is in it for the money. I follow his career and read all the European newspaper and they paint a very different image of the Old Swede. Did you know that when he sued the News of the World and won a court case he gave all the money he won to charity!!!! He also ripped up his notts county contract worth 2.4 million because he said he didn’t want to be the reason the oldest club in the world goes under. He wants big money, but I think managers like him deserve it with the CV he has. If you have won all the trophies you mentioned, wouldn’t you want the big bucks? I agree fully agree about the better candidate. Whilst I was on the Fulham Forum you would be surmised how many didn’t seem to care that Hughes and won nothing compared to Sven. I think it does make a difference the experience.
BoneDog Posted 1 October 2010 Posted 1 October 2010 Sven has earned his stripes but I'd still take O'Neill ahead of him.
Bettsj2 Posted 1 October 2010 Posted 1 October 2010 Dont agree, sven has never done anything outside a top club and doesnt have any experience in the championship! Where as o neill as done well at every club he as been at, has proven himself in the championship, plus will have more knowledge on the players needed to get out of the championship. Hate to sound negative but just got a bad feeling about sven He didnt do well at Norwich.
dandannieldanok Posted 1 October 2010 Posted 1 October 2010 I think it does make a difference the experience. Very little experience in England though, you can win all the trophies you want in a different country but the reality is nobody knows how he'll adapt because he's never managed in the Championship before. There is no denying his pedigree, but you have question where it is right for Leicester City.
Wasyls Pec Deck Posted 1 October 2010 Posted 1 October 2010 Without trawling through what I imagine are 13 pages of mostly negative content, has anyone picked up on a major plus of Sven....? Under Sousa you can hardly say we've looked organised, esp the defence which has been a shambles. Baring in mind under Nigel imo organisation was a big reason why we got to the playoffs last season (in hindsight did we slightly over achieve?) - Sven will make us more organised than Paulo - who lets be honest didn't know his arse from his elbow. Still looking for a settled or your strongest side after 3 months is unacceptable. I bet the players are happy he's gone too, although professionalism suggests they probably won't publicly state it. For Sousa to hide behind the LMA is ripe isn't it....we're nearly a 1/4 way through the season and are rock bottom with 5 points. Few games more would have meant a genuine 2-3 game gap may have opened up just to get out of the bottom 3. Good riddance. Sven (if we get him) will no doubt be a footballing decision and a marketing one. It makes sense for Top et al to employ someone of his stature and calibre in the game, esp when trying to market us as a 'brand'. Welcome to modern corporate aspirational football folks... I have an gut feeling that if Sven is unveiled next week, it with either go dramatically belly up or it will be a remarkable success - I don't see any middle ground here. Has he 'failed' at a club side? I'd take the gamble...

Hate to sound negative but just got a bad feeling about sven You must read your facts. In Sweden he started in the back divisions. And he turned Gothenburg into a giant killing team winning a euro cup. He took over Ivory Coast and took them up a place in the rankings and apart from English papers that hate Sven, worldwide papers all reported the Ivory playing better football than seem for a long time. Sven can work with the big teams and the teams a division down. He could bring you to the premier League

Has he 'failed' at a club side? I'd take the gamble... Well apart from Man City, he has ALWAYS won a trophy with every club he has managed. And at City his target was top 10 and he finished 9. So I would so, no, never failed at club level and thats a fact.

I just wonder what style of football he'll have us playing?

I just wonder what style of football he'll have us playing? Well, depends what type of players you have. I don’t know anything about your boys, im a Sven fan and a season ticket holder at Bournemouth (Up the cherries). With England he played very defensive football but I think he felt it was better for our results. And losing only 3 times in 90 minutes, all by 1 goal only, and losing 2 penalty shoot outs, I think its fair to say it could have worked. HOWEVER, with Man City, they loved his fast paced free flowing attacking footy. What would you boys say is the best way for your players to play is more the question???

ian_marshall Posted 1 October 2010 Posted 1 October 2010 So we've sacked a fairly unproven manager, for another foreign manger who has failed miserably wherever he has been for the last 8 years, and will be on massive wages. Our club is a joke if this happens. Are you crazy?!? The guy has won three Championships in three separate European countries one of which was Italy and arguably the strongest league in Europe at the time, the Uefa Cup, the Uefa Cup Winners Cup, guided Man City to a place in the Uefa Cup for the first time in years whilst equalling their all time record points total, and played a major role in helping Notts County get promoted. This is hardly the record of a manager who has spent his career failing miserably is it, or would you prefer we appoint Iain Dowie?
Wasyls Pec Deck Posted 1 October 2010 Posted 1 October 2010 After watching some dismal lacklustre performances under fancy football Paulo - I don't care what style we play. I just want us to be organised, not leak goals to the extent we have to call a plumber and maybe win the odd game! Sven in my opinion is more than capable of that... Scott_Gunnell - Bournemouth my local side, Eddie Howe has worked wonders there, hope he keeps it up! Are you crazy?!? Bettsj2 Posted 1 October 2010 Posted 1 October 2010 Sven doesnt have a set style to his play, he adapts to who the oppostion are. Against teams he sees as being weak, he sets up to attack (England 3-0 Denmark in the world cup for example) and against teams of equal standing or stronger, a containing side that hits on the break, (Argentina 0 - 1 England same world cup) I cant see any negatives to this deal. The fans cry out for ambition, well this is it. A hugely succesful manager with a good reputation and endless contacts in the world game and in England, Sven would truly be an amazing appointment. Whilst we all have the romantic idea of O'Neill coming in and picking up where he left off, the appointment of Sven shows a greater ambition. COME ON LEICESTER!!

Sven has delivered and I find it amazing that a club in the championship wouldn’t see this as a dream come true. If Sven came to Bournemouth I would be jumping for joy. This is a man that has been involved in the jobs that hold high levels of pressure and he has been able to keep his cool. No offence to us (England FC) but who can win a trophy with England????? I know we can win one, but my god, surely we all admit that wining with England is the hardest job on the face of the earth
Petchy Posted 1 October 2010 Posted 1 October 2010 Linking us with Curbishley now too.. but it's the Sun so take it with a pinch of salt. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/3161554/Sven-Goran-Eriksson-set-for-Leicester-talks.html
Wymsey Posted 1 October 2010 Posted 1 October 2010 He's agreed a two year deal (Leicester City FC facebook webpage)

Scott_Gunnell - Bournemouth my local side, Eddie Howe has worked wonders there, hope he keeps it up! bang on! Yeah, couldn’t agree more. Eddie Howe is the future and I predict big things from him. Eddie is mature in everything he does from team tactics to dealing with the media. I only moved to Dorset 2 years ago but I loved watching the Cherries and became a season ticket holder, and will be again next season and for years to come. Being a new fan I don’t know the history but it’s a pleasure getting involved in the club. Im going Southampton Saturday )))
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 1 October 2010 Posted 1 October 2010 I love the way Dowie's name strikes the fear of god into football fans who's team are currently recruiting a new manager. Appointing Dowie has become the lowest of lowest low ,bottom of barrel in terms of selecting a new manager. It doesn't matter who are or what league you're in you do not want to end up with Dowie. It's also quite fascinating that he's always available. Thats only because Peter Reid and Bryan Robson are currently employed and David O'Leary doesn't have a cat in hells chance of getting a job!
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 1 October 2010 Posted 1 October 2010 Better keep Chrissy P and Micky Stowell - I think they are an asset to our club and really looking forward to them being in charge tomorrow. Come on you Foxes !!

Joe. Posted 1 October 2010 Posted 1 October 2010 Whatever happens it looks like we're going to get a seemingly reasonable appointment given the names that have been linked. Eriksson fits the image bill for the owners, I'd be surprised if it wasn't him now. O'Neill coming would be a big surprise given that his achievements with this club can only go down. This whole scenario just seems fucked to me, I have absolutely no idea what to think.
Heskey2011 Posted 1 October 2010 Posted 1 October 2010 He's agreed a two year deal (Leicester City FC facebook webpage) is this a definite? can't get on f'book
Wymsey Posted 1 October 2010 Posted 1 October 2010 is this a definite? can't get on f'book It mostly has true stories on it but i am not believing it really at this time.
