CelebFox Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 I know I am a newbie, and I need to serve my apprenticeship on this forum, (1st Post and all that) but is it now time to stop this MON worship. My first thoughts on Friday morning were, “Shame for Sousa, but great! lets get O’Neil back!! Then I learnt about the fact that he didn’t even want to talk to us. He turned us down!!! Many people showed him respect and loyalty by wanting him back, and maybe our emotions got the better, wishing for a return to the glory days, but he F*%*ing turned us down. (Probably still bitter about the Shef Utd game) To be honest, although I am grateful for what he did here, I now feel quite bitter towards him and hope he fails in any future roles, (England manager excluded) I will then allow myself to be a two faced B*&^tard. Thanks Martin, we are obviously not good enough for you C’mon Sven, time to look forward!!
Corky Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 Why would he want to join a club that was bottom of the second tier? He wants better than that.
Smiffy Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 It's not just for the love of football and the club for him. Its easy for us as fans to be loyal to city (sometimes) but he has a career to think about and managing city isn't exactly forward progress for him, is it?
Wycombe Fox Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 I have no bitterness towards MON at all. He did amazing things for Leicester City FC and moved on. I will always be thankful for his achievements, the cups, European nights, the passion, the pride etc which I doubt he would have been able to repeat. The MON legend lives on for me but not to the point of worship.
Fosse Boy Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 I won't be demolishing the cathedral I built in his honour, no. The man has been the best thing to happen to our club in my lifetime.
Nick Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 I won't be demolishing the cathedral I built in his honour, no. The man has been the best thing to happen to our club in my lifetime. I wonder at what point will he take on the Liverpool job?
CelebFox Posted 4 October 2010 Author Posted 4 October 2010 This maybe true, so why did so many people want him back, or expect him to come back. I'm probably just embarassed because i let my emotions get the better of me on Friday morning, This is why i ask the question, Is it time to stop O'Neil worship?? Everytime we have a vacancy or hit a low, I hear, "Lets get O'Neil back"
bettso Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 Should have stopped 10 years ago Agreed. He's always had the arse about the Sheff Utd protest and whilst he was here he got the arse twice because our then Chairmen denied him the opportunity to speak to Forest and Leeds about their vacant managerial positions. O'Neill does not love the club like some seem to suggest. He's a career minded individual that only ever looks forward. I have no ill feeling towards him and like to see him do well as I do anyone who did things positively for our club but the hysteria surrounding him is a tad over the top and does sort of show how little we've achieved over the years.
MC Prussian Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 I think the only ones really worshipping O'Neill are a few ones aged 30+, including some really old & deluded tarts who can never find a positive thing to say about a manager other than MON. Sometimes, it seems as if time has stood still, with them still living in the year 1998 or something. It's usually the typical Radio Leicester Phone-In Moaner, methinks. I know there's exceptions to the rule, but the younger generation can hardly claim to have lived through the most successful era of the club consciously - and neither have I, so this whole hype doesn't really affect me.

Everytime we have a vacancy or hit a low, I hear, "Lets get O'Neil back" We'd got off to an appalling start and the club was in disarray. The fans wanted some hope and saw MON out of work, so why not dream? In reality it was never going to happen, I'm delighted we've got Sven, but I'm not angry at O'Neill for turning us down, because he wants a bigger job. He was only linked because he'd been here before and it would be "romantic" to return.
rams r4 sh*ggin Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 ive supported city ever since i can remember. i myself like many were calling for o'neill back (as i did and not ashamed of it). But my reason was the success he had at city was when i was a young fan and it leaves an imprint on you that you never forget. young impressionable prob like so many others that called for him back??? Everybody has there view on him, i for 1 still hold him in high regard and it is those beliefs and memorys of those years that people like to remember hence there desicion to voice there desire for him back
Criggers Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 Back in the day I wanted Mike Walker to get the job (I was 9 at the time) over Martin (who the fook?!) O'Neill. I think Walker is still out of work, god knows why we got Sven? He'd be on less money that Sven and he's achieved just as much in the last 8 years
The Padster Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 This is why i ask the question, Is it time to stop O'Neil worship?? Everytime we have a vacancy or hit a low, I hear, "Lets get O'Neil back" Your a brave person to ask this question, many on here would crucify you for even suggesting such a thing. But I won't as although he was the greatest thing to happen to LCFC so far in my tenure as a foxes fan and probably at least 2nd best to many more people, it is time to stop crying out for him everytime we need a new manger. He's been here, done his time and moved on to bigger and better things and whilst we should still respect and worship him for all he did for us, that was then and this is now. And now we have Sven in charge who could even eclipse The Almighty as our lord and saviour, this is the man we need to get behind.
Suffolk_fox Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 MON is a Leicester Legend - that might be why he didn't want to come back! Just think if he didn't manage to turn our lot round, or if he failed to reach the play offs. Just imagine if he left or got sacked.... Not many go back to their roots and enjoy success. At least he will always be held in high esteem, and that is probably just as important to him as it is to us.

Finnegan Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 It's a shame we've had all this stuff in the last week, really. I felt we had a nice feeling of closure after the Aston Villa cup game a few seasons back.
somebum Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 your post says it all about the sheer level of delusion that most city fans have, we will always be a 2nd division side! Always!
ozleicester Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 He is part of our history and deserves to be remebered for the highs he brought us... BUT... he doesnt want to come back... and to be fair... i dont think i want him back. A return could only tarnish the memories. Recognise yes... call for his return no. Sven is the future ( oh god, how easily this statement could come back to bite me )
Onions Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 Jesus Christ! Martin was our best manager ever. Why on earth would he want to come back to Leicester when he will walk into the Man Utd job when Fergies leaves/dies which ever comes first. The simple fact that you hope he isn't successful might be one of the reasons he don't want to come back, the majority of Leicester love the guy, however there always seems to be idiots like yourself. I can only hope you are young and never saw the days martin was here. The passion was amazing, we were one of the most feared teams in England from crosses, our team simply dominated. We had probably THE best midfield in the game, Guppy, Lennon, Izzet and Savage all would have walked into any team they wanted at the time. Martin built this team with a few hundred thousand. The defence of Elliot, Walsh etc, unstoppable. Today 10 years ago we top of the premiership because of this man. Martin O'Neill is a Leicester hero, and should always be remembered for that. I'm not gonna lie, I want him to be a success, even when he was at Villa I wanted them to win, sounds crazy as they are a local team, but that just shows how much respect I have for the man. The simple fact he didn't want to come back is more than understandable, who in their right mind would ruin a chance of being England manager or Man Utd within a few years, to help Leicester City get out of the Championship. Nobody in their right mind would. Martin is a hero, and always will be. Simple as.
Zingari Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 yes it is , but i'm still hero worshipping Gillies and Bloomfield though
Samilktray Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 Martin O'Neil walking into the Manchester United job
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 Agreed. Bit harsh in my opinion. I will always worship Martin o Neill but never thought he would come back. 3 League cup finals (2 wins) 2 excursions into Europe, fantastic for our club and I shall never forget those times.
Raj Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 There will NEVER be another MoN. No One will do what he did with the limited amounts of Cash. He got the best out of players most hadnt even heard of. All this after a disastorous start in which some fans wanted him out. Will always be a leg end.
