GLC Posted 15 October 2010 Posted 15 October 2010 When Sven Goran Eriksson was a boy growing up in Sweden, I wonder if he used to lie awake at night and dream of managing Notts County and Leicester. Another bizarre circuit on Sven's merry-go-round begins tomorrow, when he takes charge of my old club for the first time against Hull. He may take them back into the Premier League, or it could all end in tears, but I have to admit I'm very sceptical. Sven and Leicester are not an obvious fit, and it is weird to see a coach of his pedigree hopping from job to job over the past two years. There can't be many people out there who have gone, in batting order, from Manchester City to Mexico to Notts County to Ivory Coast to the Walkers Stadium - for a man of his track record, it's a strange one. Don't get me wrong, I still have a deep-rooted affection for Leicester. I spent some of the best years of my career there under Martin O'Neill, and in a footballing sense it was a period which turned me from a boy into a man. But why is Sven doing it? Is it for the love of the game or for the money? There are few sadder sights in football than former top-class players trying to salvage their fading careers by hopping from one club to another in the lower divisions, and the same applies to managers. For sure, Leicester still have Premier League potential: Nigel Pearson might have led them back to the promised land at the first attempt last season if Yann Kermorgant had not tried that ridiculous chip in the penalty shoot-out against Cardiff in the play-offs, for which he was rightly slaughtered. They have chopped and changed their managers too often since O'Neill left the club for my liking, and it remains to be seen how long Sven sticks around: he doesn't seem to have lasted more than a year in any job since he parted company with England in 2006. What on earth he was doing at Notts County last year I'll never know. And Ivory Coast were poor at the World Cup, shocking. I hear the new Thai regime at Leicester have a bit of money - I hope they don't spend it all on Sven, to be honest. The next few months could be quite a rollercoaster for them. Have to say he is right about Yann
Jon the Hat Posted 15 October 2010 Posted 15 October 2010 Oh dear. Sav as a pundit or commentator doesn't really work. He just isn't bright enough to add anything of value.
Alpha Gifts & Awards Posted 15 October 2010 Posted 15 October 2010 May be, or just may be, a fire is still burning and he feels rejected by Man City and rather overlooked by some more currently gifted 'Premier League' suitors (due to league status). He says, "I want to manage in the Premier League". Personally, Robbie mate you are a legend in I guess, practically every Leicester fans' eyes, but in this case I feel it's just a bored man, which has effected his occupational decisions thus far, with belief and passion. If his signings to date are anything to go by, think we might finish well this season. But hey, all speculation - time will tell. Ciao!
Rich Fox Posted 15 October 2010 Posted 15 October 2010 Savage is bitter that he was rejected when he wanted to come back to Leicester, Sven has achieved more in his career that savage can ever dream of he could not even get in the welsh team. We should have played Theo Zagorakis instead of that headless chicken who was never that good. Robbie savage what a willy puller everybody cant be wrong !
katieakita Posted 15 October 2010 Posted 15 October 2010 What a sad twat! Football pundit, more like talking bollocks, This would be the same man who left us for the mighty Brum and cash and left them for Blackburn for even more cash to be near his mum and dad even though Brum was nearer?? Both have done very well out of football fair play to them, but i think one is just a little bit more successful than the other, as for Sven's recent record 1.Mexico, wasn't wanted in the 1st place with major issues behind the scenes his job was to get them into the world cup finals which they did. 2. Notts County brought in to get them promoted, how can he be blamed that the owners having no money, he waved goodbye to millions when he left them, ask any Notts County fan what they think of him, they also got promoted. 3. Ivory Coast took over at the last minute and put in a group with Brazil,Portugal & North Korea in which they were expected to finish 3rd. Star striker Drogba got injured and played with an arm injury, got a decent draw with Portugal and after Brazil only beat N Korea 2-1 wouldn't have expected Portugal to stuff them 7-0 which basically meant they had to beat Brazil and lost, no shame in that i wouln't have fancied England to qualify from that group. Again all reports suggest the Ivory Coast were happy with him. Since his arrival we have become the hottest club in the championship, this week he's brought in about £15 million of talent on loan neither Sousa or Pearson would have attracted these players. So Robert you,ve gone down in opinion but like they say "it,s better to be quiet and thought an idiot than open your mouth and remove all doubt" TTFN Paul
Ozwin Posted 15 October 2010 Posted 15 October 2010 Someone needs to tell Savage that he's not our club's ambassador and never was.
SarbannesFoxley Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 There's fewer things sadder than a thick footballer trying to be intelligent and coming up way short. Who gave this t**t a job in the media? Jog on son.
adversus_diaboli Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 I think Savage makes some valid points. Who honestly expected Sven to come? I know I didn't. I will always think highly of Robbie for his time with us, always gave 100% and was a terrior in the middle breaking up play for Lennon and Muzzy to then do something with it. People are to quick to jump on the 'we hate Savage' band wagon. The bloke is pastionate and is quite amusing at times.
KFS Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 His writing style is terrible, I got bored after the first paragraph.
Dazfox2306 Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 I'm surprised he didn't say anything about Sarah (his Mrs) like he always does in his column is the Mirror.
Prospero Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 I respect Savage's playing career at Leicester. He knows he is no longer loved here. He always knew how to wind up the opposition and he still does.
CelebFox Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Not really interested in what he has to say! Proves a a point though, Sven has got a lot of people talking about Leicester City
Jay Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 such a bitter bitter man these days, stinks of jealousy to me
Stig the Lawnmower Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 robbie was part of a good team here, that's all. if he hadn't served under martin he would be nowhere. I lost all respect for him when he had a hand in Matt Elliotts sending off when he returned with birmingham, he encouraged the ref to give a red card and celebrated when it came. Twat of the highest order and a rubbish pundit. It's awful when he's on 606, unreasoned arguments etc., ruins a good programme.
Carter The Boss Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 His writing style is terrible, I got bored after the first paragraph. I thought it had been written by a 4 year old. Love Robbie for what he did when he was here, but that was years ago. Bugger off Robbie, there's a good lad
Chairman of the Bored Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Dippy blonde. Get a life Robbie and concentrate on the Sheep Shaggers.
Sooper Steve's shin Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 There are few sadder sights in football than former top-class players trying to salvage their fading careers by hopping from one club to another in the lower divisions.... Like ending up at Derby?

DJ Barry Hammond Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Sav's right you know - Sven out! (thought I'd get the first one in!)
Corky Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 When Sven Goran Eriksson was a boy growing up in Sweden, I wonder if he used to lie awake at night and dream of managing Notts County and Leicester. Well he didn't manage Notts County did he Robbie? Anyway, did you grow up wanting to play for Birmingham and Derby?
