Sven obviously rates Cunningham as the better player, hence taking him on loan all season, but by mentioning Berner in his players can leave bit I think he's letting him know that there is a way back for him.

Personally I think we're a lot better with Cunningham in the side.

Ha. Can't believe some of the arrogance from them. Fair enough some of what they say is true, but they're making out like they've Just come down from the prem. If the championship is living a fairytale then I feel sorry for the ambitions of their club.

Don't write them off though. They knock it round well and may cause us problems on the counter. I'll be disappointed with anything less than a win.

Agreed, they're a decent side but don't think they have Promotion in them in the next couple of seasons. Like I said earlier, we play like we did against Forest and Derby and it'll be no problem. Once we sort out our defence properly, and get a goal from a corner (one will lead to more), we'll be better than most in this division.

Love to hear their thoughts at the end of the season, when we finish ahead of them.

Why do we always do this?!??!? We don't see the players in training; therefore predicting the starting 11 is kinda silly. :/

This should be a walk in the park. But we all know what happens against these small town clubs... :giggle:

:sge: "Well... if we play good football, we should win the game. We'll see."

Theres not such a thing as a walk in the park in this league. We have got to really fight hard in this game and may need to change our strategy if it begins to get scrappy.

I am somewhat surprised by the sheer complacency of the posts in this thread, making just the odd change to a team that has been poor in two of our last three games and contrived to lose both, against very modest opposition.

Ok, I know we won our last two home games but we won by the narrowest of margins even though both Derby and Forest were a long way from their best. Under normal circumstances I would be calling for some big changes, given the talent we have available I think our performances are unimpressive and we need big changes in both personel and the way we play.

Our defence has been shoddy, to say the least, so I would make at least one change there, bringing in Vitor for either Hobbs or Davies, the latter preferably. Our midfield, though hard working, is one paced and predictable so one of them has to drop out to bring some variation and we cannot continue to play with forwards who have no pace or are clearly not yet match fit.

So something like this...

Kirkland

Naughton--Hobbs--Vitor--Cunningham

Abe--King

Dyer--Gallagher--Fryatt

Bednar

I accept that there is no chance of anything like this happening on saturday, but I am fed up with our wholly predictable playing style. We dominate play but can't score, get caught out easily in defence then fall for the sucker punch chasing the game. Badly in need of a shake up in my view!

Could not muster up the enthusiasm to write what I truly felt about City right now but you said it for me! Thanks - these comments are spot on

If we don't want players who aren't match fit, how does Bednar get in?

And we don't have reserve games so how do Vassel and Bednar get match fit without playing first team football?

Fraytt WILL be in the squad for Saturday's match.

Kirkland WON'T. He's back on Monday.

Just been on SSN that Kirkland IS FIT. Nearly fell over when I read that and had to play it back on the old Sky Plus !!

Feel like death today with cold and flu but am not going to miss this cheap 'un. Make it worth my while lads. 2 or 3 nil will do. Would be fan-fooking-tastic to see Fryatt get one today also. :chant:

It needs to be a balance.

Playing a front line of an unfit Vassell, an unfit Bednar and Gallagher who is fit but has no pace anyway is just too much for me. We simply do not stretch the opposition defence, offer little threat in behind and no one is sharp enough to pick up the sharp chances that do fall to us.

So, Dyer playing well forward on the right offers some pace, Fryatt, for all his issues, remains our most natural goal scorer (after King), so his job is to attack the box from the left, something he is quite comfortable doing. Bednar gets the start leading the line for no other reason than Howard being so effective as a substitute coming on with 30 - 40 minutes to go.

Dyer and Fryatt play the wide positions only as far as necessary to cover the opposition full backs, going forward their job is to attack the box and support the front man, this will leave space for our full backs to get forward in wide positions and for Gallagher to play the creative role in the hole.

Abe and King need to play more conservatively, holding the shape and covering the back 4. Kings runs will be be all the more effective for coming later and from deeper positions.

We can't keep making fitness an excuse for Vassel. We signed him over a month ago and he's played 6 games for us. He needs to start showing now why he's in the team ahead of Dyer.
