LeicesterLuke Posted 10 December 2010 Posted 10 December 2010 I've just found this article on sky sports. Sorry if its already been posted, but it was an interesting read! Czech striker Roman Bednar insists he will not return to West Brom after his loan spell at Leicester expires. Bednar agreed a switch to the Walkers Stadium on Wednesday and has joined the Championship outfit until January. The 27-year-old believes that he has lost the support of Baggies boss Roberto Di Matteoand will therefore not make a Hawthorns comeback. "Once the (West Brom) manager let me go, my vision is not to return to West Bromwich. I don't feel confidence in me from him anymore," he told CTK. "At the moment I just want to be happy and play regularly. I think I have made the right decision. High quality "This loan has been settled so that I don't warm the bench. I will be doing my best and believe I will gain ground at Leicester." The Foxes are currently 17th the Championship but Bednar believes Sven-Goran Eriksson's side are capable of better things. "The team is of a high quality and, in my opinion, should be somewhere else in the table," he added. On his Swedish manager, he remarked: "I have decided for Leicester not only because of the manager but also because it takes me just 45 minutes to get there from my home, so I don't need to move. "In the worst case I will be spending the nights ahead of games in hotel. Great record "He is a high-quality manager who has a great record of teams he has coached previously. "After a long time, I enjoyed a training session with a smile on my face." Bednar will have stern competition with Darius Vassell, Martyn Waghorn, Matty Fryattand Steve Howard also attacking options. He said: "I know all of them. I consider them high-quality forwards but am not afraid of competition. "It's good for me but, as I said before, I've not moved to Leicester to just warm the bench." If its already around, feel free to delete it :')
fosseman Posted 10 December 2010 Posted 10 December 2010 It reads as if a starting place was guaranteed to Bednar as part of the deal. I hope that it's not the case and Sven drops him as and when necessary.
Finnegan Posted 10 December 2010 Posted 10 December 2010 It reads as if a starting place was guaranteed to Bednar as part of the deal. I hope that it's not the case and Sven drops him as and when necessary. I don't think he's saying that. He strikes me as a good professional in the few interviews we've seen so far, he knows he has to fight for his spot and he's excited about doing that. I think he just means he'd given up at West Brom because the manager didn't rate him and so now he's somewhere he's valued and he knows he has a chance of getting games.
StanSP Posted 10 December 2010 Posted 10 December 2010 Yeah every player needs at least some assurances that he'll play the majority of games. He wasn't getting that at WBA with Di Matteo, but Sven is at least showing it towards him at Leicester. I like the way this guy sounds. Seems quite genuine and I'm hoping he shows us what he can do in terms of goals, starting on Saturday
MPH Posted 10 December 2010 Posted 10 December 2010 I took it as sven saying to him ' I think you have the skill to be a starting player, I think you are too good to sit on the bench so work hard in training and be comitted in the matches and I will keep picking you'
Mack Posted 10 December 2010 Posted 10 December 2010 I am hoping that a successful loan spell leads to him signing in January.
Daggers Posted 10 December 2010 Posted 10 December 2010 I am hoping that a successful loan spell leads to him signing in January. Wouldn't it be better to see if he can actually score goals first?
Unit Posted 10 December 2010 Posted 10 December 2010 I took it as sven saying to him ' I think you have the skill to be a starting player, I think you are too good to sit on the bench so work hard in training and be comitted in the matches and I will keep picking you' Taking reading between the lines to a whooooooooooooooooooole new level!
Finnegan Posted 10 December 2010 Posted 10 December 2010 Wouldn't it be better to see if he can actually score goals first? Hence "succesful."
MPH Posted 10 December 2010 Posted 10 December 2010 Taking reading between the lines to a whooooooooooooooooooole new level! Indeed! I wonder what this message board would be like if no one read between the lines....
Legend_in_blue Posted 10 December 2010 Posted 10 December 2010 This article made me chuckle when I read it a couple of weeks back. "I'm not coming back". Well, if he carries on playing like he has, they won't want him back.

We'll see I suppose. But I'd have liked to see some pace up front. It seems to be the forgotten commodity at Leicester. As for assurances about playing the bloke I bet a few others would like that too. Like Dyer for a start. Or Fryatt, though I always thought he had em. Bednar might turn out to be an improvement on what we had though I've seen no signs of it so far. But assurances about playing if he's been given em? I wonder if the likes of Linneker, Dougan and Worthington got assurances. Cos when Bednar even approaches their class he'll be welcome. But right now there's longstanding matchday stewards deserve assurances more than Bednar. Whatever happened to the principle of playing for your place?
Kent Posted 10 December 2010 Posted 10 December 2010 I don't suppose anyone will stop to wonder why such a sound manager as Di Matteo shouldn't rate him. On the flipside of that, you could maybe say that we should trust Sven's judgement. His opinion is probably going to be the soundest as far as we're concerned.
Salieri Posted 10 December 2010 Posted 10 December 2010 "This loan has been settled so that I don't warm the bench. He means so he doesn't warm the bench at West Brom, he would have been given no guarantee of a starting spot here. Surely that's obvious?

Guest parky0607 Posted 11 December 2010 Posted 11 December 2010 Well so far, Ive been pretty disappointed with him tbh. I wouldn't want to see him dropped as I think every player has to be given a chance, but I dont think he's been particularly better than waghorn, howard or fryatt. I'm a bit annoyed that fryatt hasn't even been given his starting opportunity in a long time.... alright he's had odd 10 minutes, but some players don't always play their best off the bench.
ajthefox Posted 11 December 2010 Posted 11 December 2010 starting to doubt bednar, he was piss poor today. Did nothing, and for an alledged target man he's shite in the air.
North-LondonFox Posted 11 December 2010 Posted 11 December 2010 I really want him to do well, but the guy has had a pretty poor start with us - its early days but I suspect he won't start the next game and he really needs to start performing if he wants a permanent deal!
Swalker Posted 11 December 2010 Posted 11 December 2010 I don't think he will get many more chances because Vassel upfront with Dyer and Gallagher looked quality today. And I have to say Howard is a better striker up front than him because at least Howard wins the ball. Maybe Waghorn because he shows heart and speed. He needs to grab hold of his next chance and bag a goal or 2
Adster Posted 11 December 2010 Posted 11 December 2010 i agree, Bednar is supposed to be a target man and i saw Gallagher try to win more headers whilst on the field than Bednar did.
North-LondonFox Posted 11 December 2010 Posted 11 December 2010 Yep - a couple of goals next week or he's history - I have never been Howard's biggest fan but at least he wins it in the air. Ideally we need a player with an aerial threat and with some pae as well. Jason Roberts would've been perfect but it wasn't meant to be!
